4.0 out of 5 stars cute birdbath
rather small, but just the right size for hanging from a tree limb...and the birds seem to enjoy it.

I picked up this feeder because I wanted something that did not have to be refilled constantly.

The problem is the sun shines through the clear bottle so easily, the water starts to grow algae well before the birds can splash their way through all the water. I did slow the algae growth with a water additive, but with it hanging in a tree, I found debris...

I picked up this feeder because I wanted something that did not have to be refilled constantly.

The problem is the sun shines through the clear bottle so easily, the water starts to grow algae well before the birds can splash their way through all the water. I did slow the algae growth with a water additive, but with it hanging in a tree, I found debris regularly got in the bird bath tray, and had to be dumped, which ate through the supply of water very quickly anyway.

Once the algae is in the bottle, it is very difficult to clean it because the opening on the glass bottle is no bigger than your average soda bottle opening.

The quality of the construction overall is descent, the metal bath, and the bottle itself are quite thick and durable. However it is a bit tricky to setup the resevoir once it is filled with water, and you have to flip it over, between the 3 chains, and into bottom of the bath.

For me, this was a product whose concept and design was much better in my mind than in actual practice hanging from a tree.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice design, but not real practical, September 3, 2011

My wife was refilling a terra cotta birdbath (shaped like a pan) every 1-2 days. The bath dried up quickly due to our 100-degree heat, and she wanted a bath with a reservoir so she would not have to fill it daily.

This nice looking bath is a good idea in concept. You just pull the quart-sized bottle out, fill it up, put it back in.

But the devil is in the details.
-- It's a little difficult to maneuver the bottle in and out of its cradle. Need to install it about chest high so you can maneuver the bottle with both hands.
-- in order to insert the bottle back into its cradle, you must have the plastic bottle top. This is not a problem, but be sure to take the bottle top (size of a quarter) with you each time. Can't plug the top with your finger.
-- the water seems to evaporate (or spill?) pretty fast in our Texas heat. It's better than 1-2 days with the terra cotta, but not much.

My wife quit using it.

I suspect it would work nicely in the shade in a cooler climate and in a location protected from wind. Might be good in a special situation where you can't put a birdbath on the ground and can only hang something from a tree. It is pretty to look at.

The quality of this product is good. I liked the price and the concept. Haven't had any birds come to it yet, which surprises me since I have over 10 feeders and attract a lot of birds into my yard. I'll keep it clean and filled and hopefully the birds will start using it soon.
