Not strong enough,

This review is from: Biria bicycle Basket with Bracket Black - Front Quick Release Basket, Removable, Wire Mesh Bicycle basket "Express Klick", Black (Misc.)
I bought this basket about six months ago to use on the bike I ride into campus. I usually put about 10 pounds of stuff into it (a 5 lb computer, bag, and maybe a book or two). I am now looking to replace the basket. The problem is that there is only one real area of attachment/connection with the bicycle -- at the top where there is a bracket connecting the basket to the bike. So if you put something weighing more than a couple of pounds in the basket, all of the weight is on that top bracket, causing the basket to tip forward (it's tipped so far forward a couple of times that it's actually *dropped* my bag with my computer in it!). If you'll notice with other baskets there is usually a point of contact with the bike not only at the top but also at the bottom of the basket...this ensures that the basket doesn't tip and can actually support the weight of the contents of the basket. That this basket lacks that second point of contact is, in my experience, a serious drawback.
I'd say that if you need a basket to carry very light things - perhaps a towel and a gym bottle, or some light produce or something, then this is a perfectly fine basket. But if you need it to carry anything at all substantial (more than about 5-7 pounds) then look elsewhere.

Solid Basket,

This basket is very sturdy. Bracket is very easy to install and I can easily take the basket on and off. I put about 15 lbs on it on a regular basis and it holds up really nice. Very satisfied with my purchase :o)

Excellent basket,

The bracket is very easy to put on, and the basket has a heavy mesh, very nice quality. I have had other quick release baskets before, but this one is the best one yet. I plan to buy the white one as well, it will look great on my white bike :o) The basket holds about 12 lbs, which is more than what I need. 2 Thumbs up!

My basket is just what I need for my Schwinn cruiser bike. It's handy, easy to remove, and very helpful. I dropped it down a star because of the "directions" if you can call them that. The only instructions were a small piece of paper with 2 pictures of the assembly - not one word anywhere. It took me about 30 minutes to figure out how to attach it to my bike, and I wasn't very happy with the way it fit. After my husband spent 5 minutes fixing what I'd done wrong, it fit great. So, if you don't need directions, you'll do fine with this one.

The basket is pretty nice.
The bracket is made of plastic and does not hold much weight. As for the other reviews that talk about the basket dipping down, there are two reasons it would do so: 1. The bracket must be looped UNDER your bar's stem, not on top. There is a loop of plastic that needs to be under your handlebar's perpendicular piece. That will keep the whole bracket from rotating on your bar. 2. Even with the bracket in the right configuration, it "gives" quite a bit under load. I put a six pack of beers in bottles in the basket and then added a few pounds by pushing down. I snapped the loop that goes under the handle bar neck. Bottom line: If you are looking for something to throw a few light items in and keep them handy, it's probably fine. If you plan to use it for grocery shopping I would look for a stronger mounting system. Wald would probably be worth a look. /dtk

For the reviewers who gave this product poor reviews because it "slips down": YOU DID NOT INSTALL IT CORRECTLY. Once properly installed, it is quite impossible for the basket to slip, in fact it's one of the reasons for my high rating, a very clever design indeed. But this also kept it from getting five stars, because its nonobvious installation plus the complete lack of instructions could - and obviously does - lead to misinstallation and dissatisfaction.
You mount this by removing the four screws, pulling out the two clothespin-like, um, "pins," wrapping those around the handlebars on either side of the stem, reinsterting the clothepins into the slots you just removed them from, and tightening the screws down. That much is obvious. Less obvious is the little plastic bridge that links the two clothepins; it has a curved side, and it fits inside the clothepins with a small ratchet. This is the key. That bridge should be positioned immediately UNDER the stem, curve side facing up. When you tighten the screws down, the ratchet teeth engage and lock. Now yes, the entire mount is still free to swivel around the handlebars; but that bridge squeezes against the stem and prevents the mount from rotating. The reason for the ratchet is to accomodate different kinds of bikes whose handlebar stems are at different angles. It when you are done the basket is at the wrong angle, unclip the basket, loosen the screws, adjust the ratchet up or down a notch, and re-tighten. If that bridge is installed upside-down, or in any other location, there is indeed nothing to prevent the basket from rotating downward and it certainly will do so at the very first bump. I have another bike with same type of basket (different brand), and compared to my old unit this one's mount sticks out quite a bit. At first I didn't like it, but then I realized that this is to provide extra clearance between the basket and the handlebars and brake/shift cables. On a mountain bike with straight handlebars this is superfluous, but with curved handlebars, it's actually a very good design and makes it much easier to install the basket single-handedly; my old basket takes two hands and some coordination precisely because of the minimal clearance. Highly recommended - but five stars if they'd just include simple instructions with pictures.

This basket left much to be desired. I bought it to cary a few items en route to work, and it doesn't hold much without tipping forward. It also doesn't come off easily--the handle, however, does come off without much effort. I'd look at another choice.

The basket was just what I needed as a GO Green item at a silent auction. It was such a good size that it would hold anything, and it attached easily to the bicycle.
