Be warned - "patent" doesn't mean leather,

I love this style Birkenstock. I have severe plantar fasciitis and wear them all the time. Was initially thrilled to find the red ones, which are advertised here as "patent leather." However, when the shoes arrived, the uppers were what Birkenstock calls "Birko-flor" - aka "plastic."
I really don't want shoes that don't breathe and don't stretch to fit my foot, even fabulous Birkenstocks. I'm returning these.

Nice shoes but cause embarassment,

I like these sandals EXCEPT that they literally suction to the arch area of my foot. This suction releases when I take a step and causes an unpleasant sound. Although it has been good fodder for jokes and a funny nickname for the sandals, it is frustrating, and I am careful where I wear them. I think this occurs due to the high gloss insole, so I plan to take them to a cobbler and see if he can apply a permanent insole that will not allow the suction to occur.
