Better for Pre-Teens,
By Andrew J. Hoffman "Ridger" (New Jersey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Birnbaum's Walt Disney World for Kids by Kids! 2006 (Paperback)
This book gives good information that is not usually found in the typical Disney Guide. But it is best used for kids 12 and under...teens will be put off by the youthful lay-out of the chapters.

Great way to get your child involved in the trip planning!,

I got the book for my kids to use to get them excited for the trip (not that Disney World in it of itself wouldn't get them excited). My daughter read the book cover to cover and had her list of attractions she most definitely wanted to see. She carried that book everywhere and probably knew the parks better than we did.

Involve your kids in planning your trip,
By C. A. Lawson "Cath Lawson: Tips and Advice F... (Carlisle, Cumbria United Kingdom) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Birnbaum's Walt Disney World for Kids by Kids! 2006 (Paperback)
This book involves even the youngest children in planning a trip to Walt Disney World. My kids love this book, which is full of pictures, activities and fun things for kids to do in Walt Disney World. According to my kids, the planning and anticipation of the trip is just as exciting as the trip itself, and this book allows them to be involved.

Nothing Has Changed!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Birnbaum's Walt Disney World for Kids by Kids! 2006 (Paperback)
Man! This is the cheapest book I have every seen! I have the 2005 edition and it is an exact copy of the 2006 edition. They only thing they changed is the photo of the front cover and the stupid games in the book. They haven't even changed the photos of the rides! I am ashamed of the people who made the book. :(

Great for Kids!,
This review is from: Birnbaum's Walt Disney World for Kids by Kids! 2006 (Paperback)
When my husband and I were considering going to WDW for our anniversary, we happened to visit a Disney store in a mall. The manager gushed about WDW (doesn't everybody, really?) and showed us the Birnbaum's 2006 guide for kids. I thought we'd buy it, just to get an idea of what was in the parks and such.
I really enjoyed looking at, but my 7 year old was VERY enthused! Needless to say, we booked our trip later that evening! This particular guide features 160 glossy pages describing all the attractions and shows in the four WDW parks. Peppered throughout the book are mini-reviews and tips by kids. There is also a rating system that shows if a ride is scary, loud, rough, wet, or dark (or all of the above!). However, I didn't find the guide accurate in terms of my own son. (He's 7 and wanted to experience EVERYTHING--even Expedition Everest, Tower of Terror, and Space Mountain!) But at least the guide tells you of those elements in case a child is skittish about darkness and such. Still, some of the shows were considered "dark" and "scary" (for example, The Voyage of the Little Mermaid), when I felt they were whimsical and very non-threatening. The book gives Soarin' a mere "dark" rating, but I'm tellin' ya, if you're scared of heights, it can be SCARY. I was shaking so bad when I got off Soarin', I couldn't unbuckle the seatbelt! (My husband had to get me out.) It was thrilling and unique, but I'd think some kids would be terrified! Kids will enjoy pouring over the colorful illustrations and photographs in anticipation for the big trip. There's even mazes, quizzes, and other games all throughout the 2006 Birnbaum guides. There's lots of trivia in the book, too, as well as Hidden Mickey Alerts. (I wish I would have written some down to look for them on the trip! Maybe next time.)

My son loves this book. It lets us know what rides are right for his age, there's different acitivities for the kids to do. Just a great book with a lot of great tips for both parents and kids.

This is a wonderful book for kids to read prior to their trip! For our trip last year, we bought the 2005 version and my son loved it. We had been very afraid of his reaction to certain rides in WDW but I think being able to read about them before hand, from a kids perspective, really helped him. He went into his first trip to WDW already an expert - all set to pin trade, collect pressed pennies and hunt for hidden Mickey's. We just bought him the 2006 edition and again, he has read it cover to cover. He loves the puzzles and games, as well as all the information they provide. It amazes me how knowledgeable about Disney he is now!

Great guide and preparation for trip,

This refers to the 2005 edition. - I wanted something to help prepare my 3 year old for a trip to Disney. This book was great because it gave her pictures of the major attrctions. She was so excited at the park when she recognized each one. It also helped us pick which rides were best for her ahead of time. One of my favorite parts is how it lists where to find kid favorite foods in each theme park. We also enjoyed the section for autographs and scrapbook/souvenirs in the back. It is worn out from being used so much...and looked at to remember our vacation. This book filled the roles of a guide for me and a book that was for my little girl to look at and enjoy!

I purchased one for each of my grand children ages 11 and 8. They are totally into this book. They have made an itinery for our trip, including special meals. Taken responsibily for chosing their clothes and toiletries to pack.
This is an excellent educational book for children going to Disney World. |
