Awesome Book!!!,
By DVD Family (Washington state, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Birnbaum's Walt Disney World for Kids, by Kids 2007 (Paperback)
We are currently planning our second trip to WDW and when we went 4 years ago we purchased Birnbaum's Official Guide to Walt Disney World. That book was the saving grace of our first WDW experience - and boy did it get worn out. With that in mind, I just purchased the 2007 edition to get all the updated information. I breifly considered buying this WDW for Kids for our 7 year old, but assumed it would be completely redundant information. My husband said we should get it anyway just so our son could have his own book to look through and start getting excited about our trip (as if he isn't excited enough already :)
Boy am I glad we did - this book offers so much more kid-focused information than the Official Guide, and my son just can't get enough of it. As other reviews state, one of the greatest things about this book is the "Mickey Warnings" for the attractions (loud, scary, wet, dark, rough). And this book is even more colorful and fun to read than the Official Guide - if that's possible. Bottom line: if you are headed to WDW with kids, this book is well worth it. I'd recommend you pick up both the Birnbaums WDW (Offical Guide) and this one.

Will Stoke a Child's Enthusiasm!,
This review is from: Birnbaum's Walt Disney World for Kids, by Kids 2007 (Paperback)
When my husband and I were considering going to WDW for our anniversary, we happened to visit a Disney store in a mall. The manager gushed about WDW (doesn't everybody, really?) and showed us the Birnbaum's 2006 guide for kids. I thought we'd buy it, just to get an idea of what was in the parks and such.
I really enjoyed looking at, but my 7 year old was VERY enthused! Needless to say, we booked our trip later that evening! This particular guide features 160 glossy pages describing all the attractions and shows in the four WDW parks. Peppered throughout the book are mini-reviews and tips by kids. There is also a rating system that shows if a ride is scary, loud, rough, wet, or dark (or all of the above!). However, I didn't find the guide accurate in terms of my own son. (He's 7 and wanted to experience EVERYTHING--even Expedition Everest, Tower of Terror, and Space Mountain!) But at least the guide tells you of those elements in case a child is skittish about darkness and such. Still, some of the shows were considered "dark" and "scary" (for example, The Voyage of the Little Mermaid), when I felt they were whimsical and very non-threatening. The book gives Soarin' a mere "dark" rating, but I'm tellin' ya, if you're scared of heights, it can be SCARY. I was shaking so bad when I got off Soarin', I couldn't unbuckle the seatbelt! (My husband had to get me out.) It was thrilling and unique, but I'd think some kids would be terrified! Kids will enjoy pouring over the colorful illustrations and photographs in anticipation for the big trip. There's even mazes, quizzes, and other games all throughout the Birnbaum guide for kids. There's lots of trivia in the book, too, as well as Hidden Mickey Alerts. (I wish I would have written some down to look for them on the trip! Maybe next time.)

This is simply a fabulous book to have to get your kids involved in the planning process. We bought it for our 8 year old who took great delight in reading it and showing it to our 5 year old. Honestly, we thought the kids couldn't have digested it since they went through it so fast, but when we were at the parks they knew things inside and out.
The book does a great job of finding things kids would most enjoy at every park and is written in a tone (supposedly "by kids") that they can relate to. The rides have descriptions of the "fear factor" as well, although how much you can rely on those depends on your kids' own level of tolerance. The book even pointed us to some things we enjoyed as adults but wouldn't have likely found using our "adult" guides, such as the soda sampling in Epcot. This was our first time at the parks and my advice is, buy one book for you so you can figure out how the parks work and maximize your time there, then buy this one for your kids and ask, "now what do you want to do!"

An Awesome Helpful Book,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Birnbaum's Walt Disney World for Kids, by Kids 2007 (Paperback)
This book was very helpful to my sister and I. We are going to WDW in June and wanted to plan our vacation. It gave us a description on each ride, gave it ratings such as Scary, Wet, Rough, Loud, and Dark. It also gave a kid's point of view on the ride and what their comments were. It also has autograph pages and places where you can put extras from your trip. Very helpful!

For older kids...,

This review is from: Birnbaum's Walt Disney World for Kids, by Kids 2007 (Paperback)
This is a great book for the 8 to 12 age group. If your child can read and is interested in what other kids have to say about WDW and the rides, this is the book you want to purchase. It really has nothing to offer younger children and has no new information if you are also purchasing another of Birnbaum's WDW books. Save your money for the actual trip!

This was a wonderful tool in helping us plan our trip to Disney with our two young sons. Definately recommend it. Also very helpful for recommending age appropriate places to visit.

This book was very helpful for us as parents taking a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old to Disney for the first time. It gave specific information about which rides are dark, loud, scary, or rough, which ones had height requirements, and which ones are must-see's. The quick reference format made it easy to use, although tabs would have made it even better. We took it with us everywhere in Disney. It was also fun to read through as we prepared for our Disney vacation.

This review is from: Birnbaum's Walt Disney World for Kids, by Kids 2007 (Paperback)
This was great for my kids for our first trip. It has great pictures for the kids and fun games and places to write in the book. It gives little "symbols" for each attraction, just as scary or dark. It was great for them to look through to get excited about the trip and to plan what was on the "must do" list.
