Best R&B Album I've Bought This Year!!!,
By Avid Reader (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Birth of Cornelius (Audio CD)
This artist has a very special album! This is the first time I've heard his music and I was surprised at the intensity and how well put together this album is. I hope this artist makes more of his kind of music in English so we can enjoy it. This has to be the best R&B album of the year as far as I'm concerned. I was hooked from the first song to the last but my favorite has to be "A Man Of This World. Next is "Foolish Heart, Liberation, Heaven, and Home Is By You" This album is a must for any collection. With the state of pure R&B soul these days, this artist is a gem! If you are looking for a good R&B album for your collection, this is the album to get!

Great, Relaxing Music,

I LOVE this CD-it is great to groove to in the car, great for relaxing as well, and overall has great beats, lyrics, and rythems. You can feel a lot of his passion and life experiences through the songs, and you can tell he had huge influences from early Motown. I really enjoyed the back to basics type of music and highly reccomend this CD to anyone looking for some smooth R&B, relaxing grooves.

Foolish Heart,

Just heard him interviewed by Tavis Smiley on NPR -- and while I cannot speak for the album as a whole, this particular song in incredibly moving. He was 17 when he lost his parents in the Rawandan genocide -- the principal message of the song being to thank them for the love they provided him up to that point. (He also sings of missing his brother and sister -- but I don't know what happened to them). At the same time, he is apologizing to his lover for how shut-down he had since been. This emotional catharsis is supported by brilliance of craft in harmony, melody and production.

The Birth Of Cornelius is simply wonderful!!! I first became acquainted with this artist on the Monique Show on BET. I was kind of skeptical about how he would sound aftering hearing his story. When he began singing I was delighted!!! His sound is smooth and relaxing. This album is what you would want to listen to after a hard day of work while sitting in your recliner or soaking in your hot tub. I highly recommend it and I look forward to buying future projects by Corneille. Thanks!

I totally love this album. It's a great listen. Corneille has a beautiful voice and this project is perfect for it. Yes, it is a little different from his past work -- has more of an R&B vibe to it. If you are not a fan of or at least have an appreciation for the R&B genre, you probably will not like this album. However, you can appreciate Corneille's choice to break into the US market through a genre that America understands so well -- it shows maturity and great smarts. So, kudos to him for that.Let's not talk about how well done this project is -- it's stripped down to an extent so that you can really appreciate his vocal abilities and his well-written and heartfelt lyrics. This CD is never far from me. It is a wonderful listen! Good job, Corneille. I'm sure that many who hear this project will become quick fans and, like me, who doesn't speak a word of French, will explore your French-language projects which are so good that language just isn't a barrier!

If you've enjoyed Corneille's music in the past, don't get too excited about "Birth." It's average R&B, with boring music, as if a manufacturer of the R&B sound sent him the background music and he filled in the lyrics. It does not compare to any of his previous music. He sounds bored, maybe he just isn't passionate in English... The two stars awarded are for his ever-beautiful voice.
