The true story of a woman's search to locate her birth mother

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

We found the most gripping part of this story to be what the author called, "The Dramatic Moment!" The time when the phone is ringing and one thousand things go through one's mind. This might be the one chance, the only chance, to make the initial contact. The opportunity might never come again. Also knowing that it is much more difficult for the person being contacted by telephone to say "no" to the actual child, than when contacted by letter. There is so much to be learned from this author, who has "been there and done that!"

From the Author

I had always wondered about finding my birth mother, but until I was 35 years old, I had never done anything about it. Finally, I decided to take the plunge. I knew it would be difficult, but little did I know just how difficult it was going to be. First of all, I love my parents. They raised me and I appreciate all of the many opportunities in my life that would not otherwise have been available without their loving care. So it was only natural that I did not want to hurt them in any way. But it is my life to live, I am grown up now, and in my heart I think I am entitled to at least know about my birth mother if I am able to find her. I know. She may not want to see me. She may not have told anyone, particularly her present family about me. It has been so long. She may not want me in her life in any way. She probably has tried her best to forget that I ever happened. But whatever the truth is, I WANT TO KNOW. This book is about my search, and my discovery of my birth mother. I am not going to tell you whether it turned out good or bad. You will have to read the book to find out. But what I can tell you is since I had so much trouble with the search, I have given you an outline on how you can do your own search and perhaps avoid some of the pitfalls that I had to go through.

This review is from: Birth Mother Search: Someday I'll Find Her : The True Story of One Woman's Success in Locating Her Birth Mother (Paperback)
This book is a procedural on how adopted children may find their birth parents. I read all of these types of books I can find, and the stories are always interesting, as this one was. An interesting story. But the writing itself is so sophomoric I was constantly rolling my eyes at the pendantic sentences and little asides that have nothing whatsoever to do with her search. It was painful to read. But read it I did, and it would appear everyone has a happy ending here. Oh, except for the adopted family who raised and educated her; they are only mentioned as villans who might discover what she was up to. That part is sad and, probably, quite unfair. I wonder if she has told them yet?

5.0 out of 5 stars Birth Mother Search, December 22, 2002
This review is from: Birth Mother Search: Someday I'll Find Her : The True Story of One Woman's Success in Locating Her Birth Mother (Paperback)
This story takes place in Canada. As a birthmom, I enjoyed this adopted woman's account of her search. I felt that Schumacher didn't express much emotion in her book, but she writes in a very straightforward way, which is easy to follow.
