"What We Talk About When We Talk About Love" by Raymond Carver
Join Carver in his second collection of stories as he rightly celebrates those characters that others too often consider peripheral.
"The Prisoner" by Omar Shahid Hamid
"The Prisoner" is a fast-paced thriller that brings politics and a perception of the moral ambiguities of justice set against the backdrop of Pakistan life.
This was a wonderful story, full of rich dialect and clever prose. It takes us back to the 30s and describes the events and people so well, you can smell the atmosphere, taste the food. The characters are well-drawn and complex. If I have any complaint, it was that it was too short. I read it in two days and wanted the story to go on.
