The Birthday Box Book,
By
This review is from: The Birthday Box (Hardcover)
My 2 year old LOVES all the Leslie Patricelli board books. He has almost all of them. However, I didn't like that this book wasn't a board book. So this means he can't sit and read/look at it by himself. The board books are perfect for little toddlers such as my son. He LOVES to read and be read to. The story is great and so are the illistrations. I just think it should have been a board book like the others. Leslie is a GREAT writer!!

Cute toddler book,
This review is from: The Birthday Box (Hardcover)
I bought this book for a little girl's first birthday and was happy to give it to her. We have another book by this author called "Yummy, Yucky" and it was one of my son's favorites when he was about eighteen months old. I really like the author, her books are simple, colorful and have a playful sense of humor to them. The birthday box is about a child who receives a gift(a puppy) and is most excited about the box it comes in. The child and puppy create all sorts of games with the box as a prop. At the end of the book the child states before falling asleep..."Today is my birthday and I got a box!" Just a charming little book.

Captures childhood!,
By Debbie K (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Birthday Box (Hardcover)
This is a wonderful toddler book that my 6 and 3 year old both enjoy. It captures childhood perfectly. The baby is all excited about the box he got for his birthday and has fun with the dog that happens to come in his birthday box. This is so true to life. I marvel every birthday how the kids are often more interested in the boxes than what's inside them. After reading this book, a large box arrived by UPS. My 3 year old asked me to cut arm holes and a hole where the face goes to make him a robot box, just like in the book. Wonderful!

Ms. Patricelli does a wonderful job of capturing the thoughts of toddlers and preschool age children. Her stories are adorable, and the artwork is well done. My daughter loves her books, and I don't mind reading them over and over again. This one is the first of her larger format books, as the rest are board books. I love when he climbs into the box! So cute!

We love all of Leslie Patricelli's books, so we pre-ordered this one, and it arrived on our son's first birthday. What a perfect gift! It was the first present he opened. Shortly thereafter, he opened a large box (as described in the book) and it was great to imagine the association (he's obviously too young to make the assocation himself). The story is simple, wonderful, and so apt for a little one. We've saved the wrapping paper (included -- so cool!) for a future big box on a future birthday. I can't wait.

A Must-Have,

Our two-year-old daughter LOVES this book and likes to sing "Happy Birthday" (her favorite song) to the baby character every time we read it, which is many, many times a week. There's a little surprise too, which she likes to pretend she does not know each time we read it. The story is very sweet, imaginative, and fun. It's a must-have.

I started reading this to my almost two year old a couple weeks ago. She turned two today! It is a fun, quick read that you can easily add your own words and questions too. She seems to love it and I enjoy reading it. Win-win!

Destined to Become a Classic - Whimsical and Funny,
By
This review is from: The Birthday Box (Hardcover)
"The Birthday Box" will soon be considered a classic. It is the best yet of the many "board books" written and illustrated by Leslie Patricelli (some of my son's other favorites from her include Yummy Yucky, Potty and Big Little).
The Birthday Box takes a whimsical look at a child's exploration of their birthday present, which comes in a big cardboard box. The educational theme is on using your imagination in play, in this case with the box and the gift that is inside. Adults will laugh as they read the book to their child, and your child will identify with the story - at least my son has. Each time we read it, the result has been a 50 year old man on his knees, pushing a large cardboard box around and around the living room while his 15 month old son rides inside, hugging his stuffed animal named "Doggie." Great fun! I really like how Ms. Patricelli takes us into a child's world of make believe in this book, and at the same time plays with our adult expectations of how the plot will go. If you have a toddler, this book is a "must have." Definitely a "5 Star" effort!

What a fabulous board book!!,

This book is highly engaging, with great artwork and heaps of fun for little people! Our two year old boy just adores this book. He can ask for it by name, and make commentary on each page of the book. The author utilises the beauty of a small child who can use their imagination and enjoy the cardboard box that carries the present, even more than the present itself! I highly recommend this book and feel that it will keep our little one entertained and captivated for years.
