4.0 out of 5 stars America - 'King Biscuit Flower Hour' (King Biscuit)
I've always dug this AM pop/soft rock artist because even though they play what many would consider 'soft rock',America was ALWAYS cool to hear, whatever the mood or setting.Another memorable archive release from the King Biscuit Flower Hour's sacred vaults. This fourteen track disc's shindig was recorded somewhere in the summer of 1982.Most of the prime cuts are here,like...

3.0 out of 5 stars two singers, two levels of success "live"
I never thought I'd be one of those whiners who complains that one of the original band members ain't still there. BUT, after hearing this live selection, I think that Dan Peek WAS America.

Know that two members of the band sing on this live cd. One is great (e.g. check out Sandman! awesome live version). Also, be warned that one of the band members says...

5.0 out of 5 stars A CONCERT I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE BEEN AT!!, January 24, 2003

I am part of a generation of fans of AMERICA who discovered their music in the early 80's with songs like "You Can Do Magic" and "Right Before Your Eyes". But after hearing some of their earlier songs, I became a big fan from then on. Needless to say, this album is one of the best live recordings I have ever heard!
This album, recorded in September 1982, covers most of AMERICA's biggest hits and includes songs from the album "A View From The Ground", another great collection from AMERICA. My favorite tracks include; "Tin Man", "Daisy Jane", "Love On The Vine", "Ventura Highway", "I Need You", "You Can Do Magic", "Sister Golden Hair", and "A Horse With No Name".
There are two songs that I wish they had included on this album, and that would be "Lonely People" and "Right Before Your Eyes".
If you only ever buy one AMERICA live album, make sure it is this one. IT IS AS CLOSE TO PERFECT AS YOU CAN GET!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great album, April 23, 2004
This review is from: King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents America in Concert (Audio CD)
The rock group America formed in 1969, when a group of teenage "Army brats" got together to make great music. Throughout the 1970s, they produced some of the finest musical numbers of the era - Ventura Highway, Tin Man, Sister Golden Hair, etc. After their 1978/9 reorganization, you probably thought that the best was over, right? Well, in this fantastic 1982 live concert, they showed that they still had it.

They played some oldies, like Tin Man, and some new ones like You Can Do Magic. My personal favorite was Inspector Mills. This is a great album, with lots of great tunes. Yes, it's live, but it sounds great, with those America tunes coming through loud and clear. I love this album, and highly recommend it to you!

4.0 out of 5 stars America,in concert, August 6, 2009
This review is from: King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents America in Concert (Audio CD)
This is a pretty good live set for America but not great. I liked the earlier release which came out on LP many years ago. The vocals on this version are a little rough maybe because the guys are older. The song Amber Cascade has been left off this version and some more recent songs added. Its a good CD to have if your're a hardcore America fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Their best live album as a duo!, June 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents America in Concert (Audio CD)
A recording of their 1982 appearance on the King Biscuit Flower Hour radio program. Contains performances of most of their hits plus other concert favorites. Their performance starts out mellow and progresses to a harder, rocking sound. This CD includes rocking versions of Sandman and Here, plus a rare recording of their version of California Dreamin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Proof that America is a great live band!!!!!!!!!!!!!, May 15, 1999

Without a doubt one of the greatest live albums! OK...I'm a huge fan.......I"ll admit it! This album however is definetly a must have for ANY fan of live music....Eveidence that America can rock with the best of them. Highlights to knock your socks off include "Here" "Sandman" with great live renditions of the classics "Tin Man" "Ventura Highway" and an extremely atmospheric version of "Daisy Jane" ... Amazingly..this album sounds as fresh today as it did when it was broadcast on thousands of radio stations in 1982!

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid performance, May 20, 2000
This review is from: King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents America in Concert (Audio CD)
America was/is one of those bands that tried to cookie-cut their music for maximum appeal. Probably their most original work was off their first album "America". Songs like "Horse with No Name" and "Sandman" showed versitility and style. After that success, the albums began to focus more on hits than on the music. So in that light I was never enamored by this group. However I once saw them on ABC Television's old Friday night series "In Concert" (which was always the best of the old late night concert shows) and enjoyed the energy they demonstrated while they played. So when I saw this selection I though what the heck. I'm glad I did. Although the music is pretty much true to the albums, they actually sound like they're enjoying playing live. Highlights include "Sandman" and "You Can Do Magic". Also a great version of the old Mama's and Papa's hit "California Dreaming" is included. And they finish off the set with solid performances on "Sister Golden Hair" and "Horse With No Name". Some of the weak points are on songs that sound like they were written just to fill out albums, like "Inspector Mills". Still this is a very enjoyable CD to listen to, and I think a must for ANY America fan.

3.0 out of 5 stars two singers, two levels of success "live", August 27, 2005

I never thought I'd be one of those whiners who complains that one of the original band members ain't still there. BUT, after hearing this live selection, I think that Dan Peek WAS America.

Know that two members of the band sing on this live cd. One is great (e.g. check out Sandman! awesome live version). Also, be warned that one of the band members says "yippee" after several of the songs. Spare me! And Horse With No Name, should be called Song With No Singer! He trails off so many times, and seems intimidated by the role of singing it. Sorry to those who like this version. I did not.

Nevertheless, several songs are great. The addition of the Mommas & Pappas' song "California Dreamin' " is worth the price of the cd.
