5.0 out of 5 stars from SherriAllen.com, April 26, 2005
This review is from: Biscuit Storybook Collection (Hardcover)
How can children's book publisher HarperCollins improve Alyssa Satin Capucilli's Biscuit series? By offering 10 of Biscuit's most endearing stories in one book. That's exactly what they've done with the "Biscuit Storybook Collection."

Biscuit is a sweet-faced puppy you want to grab right out of the pages and cuddle. He and the little girl share the simple joys of childhood, like getting ready for bed and having a picnic. They share the excitement of adventures like being in a pet show and having a birthday party. They share the ability to take things that don't turn out quite right and make them wonderful.

The "Biscuit Storybook Collection" is the perfect book to introduce a child to the joys of reading.
The large typeface, simple words and repetition make the stories easy to read. The sweet plots and the delightful illustrations by Pat Schories make the stories a joy to read. The pictures are very gentle, with soft lines and colors, but are full of expression and activity. They are very effective at creating interest and encouraging the beginning reader to keep going to find out what happens next.

The stories included in the "Biscuit Storybook Collection" are:
Biscuit
Biscuit Wins a Prize
Biscuit's New Trick
Happy Birthday, Biscuit!
Biscuit's Picnic
Biscuit's Day at the Beach
Time to Paint Biscuit!
Biscuit Meets the Neighbors
Biscuit Goes to the Park
Biscuit and the Bunny

The "Biscuit Storybook Collection" is a must-have for your child's library. At my 3-year old's insistence, we have read stories from the "Biscuit Storybook Collection" every day since we got the book (2 months ago.) She doesn't show any signs of losing interest in the "Biscuit Storybook Collection" anytime soon, and I must add, neither do I. It's a very pleasant surprise to find a book that I not only don't mind reading over and over, I actually enjoy and look forward to reading over and over. The price is right, too. The "Biscuit Storybook Collection," complete with 10 different stories, doesn't cost any more than the price of a single book. I encourage you to buy this book today!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect little books!, September 18, 2005
This review is from: Biscuit Storybook Collection (Hardcover)
This is a wonderful collection of about 10 "Biscuit" stories. We recently discovered "Biscuit" and my 2 year old daughter (and I!) have become smitten with him! I have been trying to get as many Biscuit books as I can find! "Biscuit" stories are really very short and very simply written, cheerful, sweet, innocent tales of puppy mischief - perfect for bedtime. We read two books every night, and it is always a favorite when it's a "Biscuit" book. The illustrations also really make the book - the colors are soft, and even the paper feels nice. It is nice to have a collection of several stories in one book like this, but I would say that the book is rather heavy and not easy to hold while lying down, so I think we prefer the individual story books. Either way, it's a real gift for a young child to have a Biscuit story read to them. Buy this!

4.0 out of 5 stars Even babies love Biscuit, September 2, 2006
This review is from: Biscuit Storybook Collection (Hardcover)
My granddaughter was only about ten months old when I got her this book, but she loved it right from the start! She's now fourteen months old, and she always brings this to me to read to her.

The pictures are extremely cute -- seeing Biscuit actually makes my granddaughter smile and point. The stories are simple ones about things like making new friends or going on a picnic. They're only about fifteen pages long each, with large illustrations and only a few lines on each page, which is just right for babies to listen to, or for small children who are learning to read.

The entire book is over 190 pages long, so with ten stories between the covers, this is a really good value compared to buying the individual books, plus you get a nice hardbound cover. (But if you're buying it to read to a toddler, as I did, watch for grabby little hands that like to pull on the pages!)

I can't recommend this highly enough for small children. They'll want you to read it to them over and over again.

(Edit: I gave this book 5 stars but somehow Amazon "took" only four of them. It's a five-star book, in my opinion.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great books, thin pages, January 21, 2007
This review is from: Biscuit Storybook Collection (Hardcover)
My 6 year old loves Biscuit books so I got him this one for his birthday. It's really a good price for so many of the books. He is very proud of himself as he completes each book because he's read a lot of pages in a big book. If I were to complain I would say the pages are a little thin so you have to be careful not to tear them. Overall though I would recommend this. My son holds on to this like a favorite toy, being sure to keep it away from his little sister. Who wouldn't want their child to treasure a book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good and bad, December 24, 2008
This review is from: Biscuit Storybook Collection (Hardcover)
Good - Great pictures with well thought out scenes that are consistent throughout the stories. Lots to look at. Many different repeating characters that kids can connect with. Quick and easy stories for bedtime, and my daughter has fallen in love with Biscuit. I definitely recommend MOST of the stories.

Bad (taken with a grain of salt) - Several of the books (listed below) feature Biscuit basically making a complete pest of himself, with no consequences. Waking up the baby (what parent would leave a puppy in the room with a sleeping baby), destroying an animal show, knocking over containers, and plots that rely heavily on a little girl who enjoys letting go of leashes at inopportune moments, Biscuit's annoyances are usually followed by "Silly puppy" "Funny puppy" or a feeble grin from spineless authority figures. There should be one called "Biscuit creates complete havoc, and goes unpunished." In "Biscuit Wins a Prize" for example, you would think there would be SOME kind of restraint or consequence, however gentle. Or at very least, not giving the dog a prize for it all. Reading it to my daughter felt like I was somehow condoning disorderly conduct (you might actually WIN A PRIZE after all is said and done).

To clarify, I wasn't thinking "Oh crap, my kid will turn bad, drop out of life, and put me in the old folks home!" My feeling was more annoyance. It's probably not that big a deal, but my wife and my mom both felt the same way about "Biscuit Wins..." and we're pretty laid back about stuff like this. So maybe this is a little over the top, and maybe my rant stems from seeing too many brat kids tear up a store, while their parents stand there waiting for someone's permission to do something. "Hossenfeffer! Please let go of the nice man's hair, Hossenfeffer." Terds.

Anyway, everyone has their standard, but the Biscuit stories I didn't like for the reasons I gave were: Biscuit Wins a Prize, Biscuit and the Baby, and possibly Biscuit Goes to School. THE REST I CAN HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good price for so many cute books, January 9, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Biscuit Storybook Collection (Hardcover)
We received one biscuit book for a gift and my two year old fell in love with it. I saw this and purchased it for Christmas for her. It is great. It has nine stories that go from at the park to at the beach and a lot in between. It is about $1 a story. That is an awesome deal for such great books. My daughters, ages 4 and 2, loved it and insisted on reading the full 100 pages of stories the first sitting. This is a great book for beginning readers and puppy lovers.
