Biscuit's Earth Day Celebration is a cute - and inexpensive - little book with a really good message about caring for the Earth (it's all about caring for animals, planting seeds, picking up litter, etc. - things that even very young children can do themselves). As an adult, I'm happy to say that the Earth Day message also comes free of any political overtones, so parents need not be concerned about any hidden agenda finding its way into this book aimed at the youngest of children (the target audience is ages 2-6). With all of its wonderful color illustrations (Biscuit the Little Yellow Puppy is such an expressive little cutie), I would expect this to be a popular bedtime story for kids. Many a child may first learn the joy that comes from reading by following Biscuit's adventures through this and the numerous other titles in the Biscuit series.

I have been reading Biscuit Books with my daughter for at least five years. She's in the second grade and ready to move to more difficult books, but I am glad I got this one first. Biscuit has always been a great conversation starter. The obligation that we have to try to improve our world is carefully expressed in a caring way. The topics, the writing, and the "family" experience that Biscuit encourages has given me hours with my daughter and I am grateful.

When I first saw this book I figured it was more of a baby book. I'm a so glad I didn't go with that reaction. I brought it home and found it to be a perfect introduction to Earth Day. The pictures are cute and the story is simple. The thing that I love about it is that the author walks through everyday ways we can protect our planet. She gives examples in a way that is easy for kids to understand. She also adds in an explanation as to why it is important to follow these steps. "See, Biscuit? I must turn off the water when I brush my teeth. I don't want to waste a drop." I love, love, love it!
