Refreshing perspective,

This review is from: The Bishop's Daughter (Paperback)
)"The Bishop's Daughter" by Tiffany L. Warren is written from a refreshing male perspective! Darren is a self-serving playboy who wants to expose a well-known preacher as a charlatan to get ahead in his career as a journalist. This is a terrific novel with great conflict between the characters and within Darren. The writing is quite sensory! Miss Warren makes you feel, taste and smell the story. I was educated in some new terminology, too. This was an overall enjoyable read with a spiritual message.

The Bishop's Daughter is a story about Darrin Bainbridge, a writer (and a player) trying to find his big break and break away from Mommy and Daddy's purse strings by finding corruption in the church. He is sure that he'll have no trouble uncovering a big story and his father agrees and funds the trip for him. Darrin's intended target is the Bishop but he winds up falling for the Bishop's daughter Emoni.
Will he use the information he uncovers about the Bishop and risk his new found friendship and love with Emoni? Emoni is a woman who feels she will never find her love and considers settling for a man that is nice but she really doesn't have those type of feelings for. She considers herself to be unattractive compared to her siblings but she knows she is smart and has some other fine attributes. The story is told from the perspective of both Darrin and Emoni which I found to be an intersting way to tell this tale. You get to delve into the minds of both the male and femal perspective. Usually you only get to hear the woman's side of the story and it is refreshing to hear the inner thoughts and feelings from the man's side. Especially from a man who considers himeself to be quite wonderful and to hear his thoughts about women in general. It was interesting to hear this truth in a book. I highly recommend this entertaining love story written by this talented author!

This review is from: The Bishop's Daughter (Paperback)
Darrin Bainbridge, an inspiring young journalist is making a name for himself on the internet blogging under the moniker of "Diary of a Mad Black Blogger." One Sunday morning when his unofficial girlfriend gets up from his bed to have church via the televisioin with a mega church preacher, Bishop Kumal Prentiss, Darrin gets the idea to do an expose on the Bishop. This begins an adventurous detour in Darrin's life as he moves from Cleveland to Atlanta and becomes a member of the Freedom of Life church, in Tiffany Warren's newest novel, The Bishop's Daughter.
Bishop Prentiss is nothing like Darrin expected, then again neither is the church service and the not so pretty girl with the butt that catches his eye on his first visit. Biship Prentiss' method of speaking God's word draws Darrin in and he soon finds himself a member and involved in the church's singles ministry, and with that comes the drama only single church women on the prowl can bring. Still, Darrin is determined to write the story of his career, but he is finding it difficult because the Bishop does not have any skeletons to speak of, or does he? Ms Warren pens a quick, fun read in this offering. She does a good job in switching from the male to the female voice. Darrin is funny. He is not quite the player he thinks he is and at times is conflicted. Emoni is flawed but is strong in her convictions. Her actions demonstrate how young and naïve she really is. Together they make for some interesting situations. There are also good secondary characters such as Dorcas, Oscar and Emoni's siblings. This is a strong effort by Ms Warren. I would recommend it to those who enjoy Christian fiction, however, if you are one of the chaste Christian fiction readers this might not be the one for you. Remember, sanctification is a process and everybody's just not there yet. Jeanette Wallington APOOO Bookclub Motown Review Book Club

Sheep in Wolf Clothing,
This review is from: The Bishop's Daughter (Paperback)
First, let me say that I enjoyed reading the in between chapter sections of "Diary of a Mad Black Blogger," but I wish the author would have been a little more original with the title. That could be a story in itself.
Darrin was born into a financially stabled family. He seemed to be bored with his life, although he yearned to become a master of culinary, yet his father forbade it. He thought it was much too feminine of a profession for a male. Darrin observed his girlfriend watching a mega preacher on television and his assumption was that all of those TV evangelists were crooks and hypocrites. So, he decided to expose the infamous Bishop Prentis. His plan included joining the church and being an active member. Because he was a journalist, he used this skill to wiggle himself into the Bishop's grace. Little did he know that he'd fall for the bishop's daughter, Emoni. As the story moves along, Darrin did discover some skeletons in the bishop's past but after falling in love with his daughter, he simply could not advance forward with his scheme. Is his little scheme ever exposed? Does he get the girl? Read it and find out. I found this story to be a little over the top as a christian fiction read. As I'm reading more and more christian fiction, I see that this genre is moving in the direction of regular fiction with all the illicit sex, cussing, etc. Whatever happened to christian fiction when it used to be sex-free, profanity-free and over-the-top drama free? I guess it is needed in order to sell. But I've read some of Jacquelin Thomas' earlier works and they're sex-free, profanity-free, moderate drama and beautifully written. Christian fiction authors should not compromise their storytelling to compete with mainstream. Overall, this was a cute, quick read and a little predictable. BookBlotter Susan

Darrin Bainbridge is single, educated, fine and can cook. Salivating? Well stick to your appetizers, `cause this main course has more game than Milton Bradley. While he's honest, the last thing he's looking for is to be tied down with one woman. Maybe the problem is that Darrin hasn't met the woman that God has made for him.
Emoni Prentiss is `The Bishop's Daughter.' While she's never thought of herself as outwardly beautiful like her siblings, Emoni is still the full package, yet she's single. Well, technically she could have a man, Oscar, who everyone assumes will be her husband, but he's not the man she wants. She wants something that resembles what she reads in her steamy romance novels. `The Bishop's Daughter,' by Tiffany L. Warren, has got to be one of the best books I've read. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, the flow of the story and the fact that the author wasn't afraid to show that Christians have real issues. This is the first novel I've read by Tiffany L. Warren and I already find myself looking forward to what she has slated to release next. Readers who may stir clear of Christian Fiction for fear that it will be too preachy need not worry, `The Bishop's Daughter,' while it teaches to walk with Jesus, is also dripping in enough sin to blow the roof off the church. terrific inspirational romance,
This review is from: The Bishop's Daughter (Paperback)
After his mom praised Bishop Kumal Prentiss with increasing fervor, freelance journalist Darrin Bainbridge moves to Atlanta with plans to investigate the celebrity minister. He figures he will not have to dig far to find dirt for a story and in turn obtain accolades from his father.
However, Darrin quickly realizes that God works in mysterious ways when Darrin visits Bishop Prentiss' Freedom of Life Church to join the congregation as an undercover reporter. There he meets THE BISHOP'S DAUGHTER Emoni Prentiss. As he falls in love, Darrin uncovers the scandal that would make him famous and get his father's praise, but he must weigh that with being the righteous person his beloved pious Emoni warrants. THE BISHOP'S DAUGHTER is a terrific inspirational romance starring two fully developed wonderful lead characters. This fine duet is nicely supported by solid family members and the congregation. The story line is loaded with scripture as "Honor thy father" becomes increasingly difficult to achieve but the biblical references enhance the tale of love between the cynical undercover reporter and the title character. Their rotating perspective to include his blog augment a delightful realistic romance as doubting Darrin falls in love with the enemy's daughter. Harriet Klausner

The Bishops' Daughter was a great read. I really enjoyed the storyline as that related to "Church Folk". It's amazing that as Christians, we are supposed to live holy and lead a sanctified life on a daily basis. But as you and I know, we don't live in a perfect world and "we die daily to our flesh". It appears that as soon as we mess up, Church folk will be the first one to judge us instead of to encourage and support.
This novel also touches on the stereotypes that Pastors may have. I believe that this stems from the fact that some people are truly led to preach and others just go on their own accord for their own personal agenda. I am pretty sure that you may have encountered both types if you have been around the church for any length of time. Tiffany really articulated her characters in a way that was easy for the reader to understand. I loved the way the author included what dating while trying to live holy should look like. This novel gave a realistic point of view from a man's perspective; I think this is I personally enjoyed The Diary of the Mad Black Blogger . I would recommend this novel to anyone who interested in being true to you. Struggling with forgiveness and stepping out on faith for what God has planned for you. Be Encouraged! Jenelle B. Emoni & Sascha Prentiss' story reminds me a little of the modern day 1st century christian story of Leah & Rachel. The difference is the beau; Darrin Bainbridge in this story only has eyes from Emoni and he won't be marrying Sascha, until he can have Emoni however the self esteem of Emoni matches that of Leah'.
Tiffany Warren writes an honest story that I immensely enjoyed. Darrin is living life on the hog off his father's money. He commits to being single and never being tied down with children. He's also trying to prove to "Big Mathis" his father that he is a writer which would mean he doesn't have to work for dad in his transportation business. Darrin gets an idea after watching his girlfriend enjoying Freedom of Life on TV. He decides to investigate the Bishop of this mega-church. You see Darrin believes that there's something scandalous going on at this ten thousand member church and this story could be his big break. He knows writing a story exposing a "rich black man" pays well so he's off to Atlanta. What Darrin finds in Atlanta is not what he expects in either the Bishop or his church. Tiffany Warren can truly write believable stories about people struggling with doing the right thing. I enjoyed watching Darrin's character evolve from boy to man then from milk to solid foods. Excellent read just as What A Sista Should do & Farther Than I meant to Go Longer than I meant to Stay.

A Phenomenal Read!,
This review is from: The Bishop's Daughter (Paperback)
Darrin Bainbridge was a twenty-something freelance writer looking for his "big story." He thinks he's found it when he sees a minister on TV preaching to a crowd of 10,000 worshippers. Darrin thinks these mega church ministers are scam artists looking to cash in on someone's blessing. He's on a mission to expose this dynamic minister by the name of Bishop Kumal Prentiss. He decides it's time to bring down this minister and show his congregation that the Lord's blessings are not for sale. So, Darrin decides to go on assignment to Atlanta, GA where Bishop Prentiss presides over his flock at Freedom of Life Ministries. He thinks that by telling his readers about what goes on in these mega churches, it will get him a little exposure and he can stop living off his parents and make a life for himself. That was until he went to a service at Freedom of Life and met the Bishop's daughter.
Emoni Prentiss is the eldest daughter of Bishop Kumal Prentiss. Being his assistant, Emoni makes sure that his sermons are on point and keeps the church running from behind the scenes. She is a devout Christian, and has never had a boyfriend or even dated. Emoni has prayed that the Lord would bring her a Christian man that loves the Lord and would love her as well. One Sunday morning, while doing some typical assignments before the morning worship started, Emoni felt someone looking at her. She looked up and saw this fine man looking and smiling at her. She just knew he had to be looking at someone else and not her. But with just one look, "Mr. Adonis" would answer her prayers. But it's always been said...be careful what you wish for. When Darrin and Emoni meet, sparks fly and not just between them. A couple of other folks in the sanctuary notice the chemistry between them. Darrin is there for one reason and one reason only: To bring down the fake preacher who happens to be the father of the lady he is attracted too. Soon, Darrin realizes he's got caught up in the spirit and does not know what to do about it. He never thought that he would come to this mega church and become a changed man. Emoni never thought someone that looked like Darrin would go for just a common church girl who happens to be the minister's daughter. Soon she would realize that when the Lord speaks, you better be listening. The Bishop's Daughter by Tiffany L. Warren makes you try to tap into God's Grace. She does an exceptional job by entwining each character and defining their attitude towards God and church. She gives details about each character and what has happened to make them different from one another. This book shows you how the flesh is weak when you're starting out your walk with the Lord. She gives very good examples of that through Darrin Bainbridge. You realize that once you're saved, you're not necessarily ready to give up the ways of the world. Throughout The Bishop's Daughter, there are different scriptures being quoted, prayers being prayed, and sermons being preached. This may be a lot for some to digest, but not for an avid reader of Christian Fiction. It was enough for you to look at your walk with God and how close you are with Him. Darrin Bainbridge is fortunate; fortunate to have wealthy parents to finance his up-and-coming writing career and most recent "big expose." He believes he's found the story that will launch his career - exposing the secrets of mega-church pastor Bishop Kumal Prentiss. What Darrin didn't account for, however, is the pastor's daughter, Emoni Prentiss. Finding himself falling for Emoni, Darrin is torn between the story of his career or maybe the woman of his life. Decisions, decisions, decisions...
Love, sin, forgiveness and conflict show up in this tale. Warren's Darrin Bainbridge is opportunistic. But it's his underlying sense of morality that makes us care about him. "The Bishop's Daughter" flows smoothly. An appealing read. OOSA BOTM (Feb) |
