2.0 out of 5 stars Not a book I would want to read again
I read this book many years ago and remember it as a story about an ambitious, self-seeking, ego-driven young vicar who alientates his wife and causes trouble all around, from which he has to be rescued by an enemy.

I don't recall any pleasure in reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story - gifted writer, April 8, 2013

This book is a wonderful story about a young Episcopal priest who faces the challenges of a new parish and a new wife. Being from wealth and privilege, the new wife must meet her own challenges, as well. With a great deal of love and devotion between them, and alot of patience on the part of the new husband, the two learn together through the many trials of a new marriage along with the drama surrounding the congregation. Memorable characters. I recommend any Agnes Sligh Turnbull book. She is an excellent and gifted writer from another era.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Story, November 11, 2013
This review is from: The Bishop's Mantle (Paperback)
This is the story of a dedicated and idealistic young Episcopal Priest as he navigates the first couple of years in a new Church with a young wife. Agnes Sligh Turnbull is a wonderful story-teller and I highly recommend this novel.
