This thing sucks,

This review is from: Bissell 6700 Butler Revolution Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
This is meant in the best possible way. I've purchased many items from Amazon, but never felt compelled to write about any. However, this machine does its job and does it well. I previously had a very expensive Miele canister vacuum with a powered head attachment. I think that this little Bissell works just as well for a lot less money. Perhaps the Miele filtered more of the tiny particles that cause some people to suffer from allergies, but this puppy gives you visibly clean rugs and uncarpeted floors with minimal effort. I find the dust cup most gratifying. As I own a dog, my carpets are often covered in shed hair. The cup catches most all of this as well as the bits of his chew toys that lie about without filling up the bag. While you have to empty the cup often, it's very easy to do. Further, after checking the bag, I think the cup catches most everything and that the five or six bags you get with the machine might well be all you'll ever need. It's small, light and inexpensive. There are no frills here and a couple of attachments like a crevice tool and an upholstery head might be nice. However, for the price and the excellent performance such items are not greatly missed. I say that unless you're flush with money and looking for a "status symbol" vacuum, you should go with this one. It's just too bad that such values are so hard to find.

Perfect design for hard floors,

This review is from: Bissell 6700 Butler Revolution Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
I bought this vacuum after spending a month in Europe staying with friends. It is much more common there to vacuum hard floors which Americans would usually sweep instead, and they have canister vacuums similar to this one to do it. Shortly after I returned to the States, I moved into a new place with hardwood floors and I knew I wanted one of these vacuums. I did a lot of searching for a similar style vac and this was the best model at the best value. Amazon's price has dropped significantly since then--I paid almost twice as much for it, but I still couldn't be happier with my purchase. The Butler Revolution is very well-designed. The canister can stand up or lie on its side, and has a nice handle that folds away. Those large wheels make the canister unit easily maneuverable--you can forget the canister is there dragging after you, and focus on cleaning quickly and efficiently with the flexible, lightweight floor cleaning tool. The light, small floor cleaning wand is really the key to being able to clean quickly and thoroughly with this vacuum. It's much quicker to maneuver than one of the larger, heavier, motorized brush heads designed for carpets. This design cleans better along the edges of walls and in corners, and is able to reach underneath furniture--these are usually the dustiest, dirtiest places, after all. The cleaning head and the handle are so flexible, I am able to reach into small or odd-shaped nooks and crannies and even vacuum the floor underneath my king size bed. The underside of the floor-cleaning tool is well-designed for hard floors. In front is a thin line of short bristles which help pick up dust, especially along baseboards. In the center is the cavity through which everything is sucked up, and behind is a squeegee-like rubber strip which prevents you from leaving anything behind. The floor tool is so low and close to the floor that sometimes in order to vacuum up larger objects like coins, bits of paper, or cereal, you have to lift up the head and position it directly over the object--a minor inconvenience, since the head is so light and easily maneuverable, and a fair trade-off considering this vacuum's overall cleaning abilities. By no means would I recommend this vac for homes with much carpeting. It performs okay on my few rugs, but is a lot slower and less effective than a regular motor-driven brush head designed for carpets. I will probably still drag out my old upright once in a while to clean my room-size rug. The fact that this vacuum is NOT bagless appeals to me. Having had a few, I don't understand the trend toward bagless vacuum cleaners. In my experience, they are a pain to empty out, and I end up coming into contact with all the dust I was trying to avoid in the first place, first emptying the dust cup, then cleaning out other screens, sponges or filters. I felt like I needed another vacuum to clean my vacuum! That said, I wasn't sure what I would think about the dust cup attached to the Butler's handle, but I was pleasantly surprised. Removal and attachment is quick and straightforward, and the dust empties right out--nothing needs to be shaken or rinsed. The cup catches and holds the larger items you vacuum up before they get to the vacuum bag, so that you hardly ever have to change the bag. If you have hard floors, stop sweeping and buy this vacuum! You'll clean your entire house in record time. If you have more money to spend, you might want to consider the Eureka Oxygen canister line, which is also very well-designed and has HEPA filtration.

Head and shoulders above anything else for the price!,

I shopped for weeks before I bought this lightweight canister vac from Amazon at $54.49 with free shipping. I have only hardwood floors and tile, so I decided against a full-size canister with a powered head. The Bissell 6700 is actually a Samsung vacuum, made in Korea and sold as a Samsung only overseas. This unit excels on my floors, and with the well-balanced handle it's easy to pick it up for cleaning windowledges and vacuuming up webs. Compared to other sub-$100 units, this one:1) is actually solid and well-made. 2) is extremely quiet (yet powerful). 3) has an extendable aluminum tube instead of plastic. 4) has a cord retractor. 5) has a dust cup that significantly extends bag life. Everything has flaws of course, but these are my nit-picks: 1) the cord is a bit short. 2) there's no crevice tool. 3) replacement bags are not that available (six are included though). Obviously these problems are easily overcome. If you don't need to vacuum carpet, this is the only canister vac you need consider. I feel like I struck gold!

Bissell Butler Revolution Makes Cleaning FUN!,

This vacuum is FABULOUS! I really love it!I read many reviews on several different sites before buying this~ and only found one person that didn't like theirs! And with the price ... plus free shipping I decided I couldn't pass this up! I have had this vacuum for several weeks now and it's absolutely great! It is nice and small and is very lightweight. It has large wheels that allow for easy maneuvering~ it's compact size also allows for the vacuum to easily follow you while cleaning...instead of having to tug it along! It's cute too! But don't let it's size fool you! This vacuum has suction! It picks up EVERYTHING I put it to (and with a 3 yr old, a dog and 2 cats sometimes that's a lot!). Initially I thought the dust cup was a little hokey...but as silly as it sounds, it is actually very encouraging seeing the dust and fuzz in the cup! It makes you feel good to see the dirt you've just cleaned up! While it looks like an awkward location for the cup~ it really isn't. It's not heavy at all and doesn't seem to get in the way. It has great suction~ but it does NOT have a loud motor. It's actually pretty quiet and the noise that it does make is not unbearable (as some can be!). Oh~ and no light? So?....Seriously, the fact that it has no light is NO problem!! The included attachment doesn't seem to have a good place~ I've knocked mine off several times already. And the hoses don't lock in~ they just fit with pressure...while that hasn't been a problem I can see it could be a future improvement. I have also looked in the manual to see what vacuum bags are required for replacements but didn't see that information. I may be missing something and I know I can and will call Bissell~ but 5 bags are included and most of the dirt goes into the cup anyhow! I have hardwood, area rugs, tile and vinyl flooring and this works superbly on all surfaces~ I have even used it on my ceilings and walls for cobwebs and dust on my door jams! Even with my tiny nitpicks about this item~ and they really are tiny~ they absolutely pale when you consider [the price]! I was looking at vacuums over $300-400 to get a good quality vacuum....forget it! I love my Bissell Butler Revolution Canister Vacuum! This vacuum makes cleaning fun! I can honestly say my house is so much cleaner since getting this vacuum. I am happily throwing my other vacuums away and enjoying my new Bissell Butler! If you are looking for a new vacuum and considering this~ GET IT! :) ** I just HAVE to update this review! When I pull this vacuum out of the closet~ my husband actually ASKS if he can vacuum!!!! Really! It's that good! LOL I am still loving this vacuum! And the fact that hubby does too says it all!!

Satisfied Canister Customer,

This vacuum has great suction and is lightweight and easy to pull around the house. The dust cup captures most of the dirt so I don't have to change the bags as often. The automatic cord rewind is awesome (someone should have thought of this sooner). I use it on my carpet and tile, and it works well on both. All you have to do is flip a switch on the floor nozzle to adjust it for carpet or bare surface cleaning. I even used it to vacuum out my car.

Great for hardwood and low pile,

I searched and searched for the perfect vacuum and found it...wanted one without a beater bar since I have hardwood and berber....picks up everything and is a breeze to use...I like the lightweight and quiet operation...much easier to use than an upright since the head and wand don't have the weight of the vacuum over them...if you have very low pile carpet and or wood, this machine will fit the bill...and this was the lowest price I found anywhere....

Awesome vacuum cleaner!,

This has been the best vacuum I've ever owned. After a back injury my Kirby was too heavy to maneuver so I purchased the Bissell Butler. It's great because:- it's light-weight & easy to move around - you can use it with or without a bag - the pole extends so you dont have to bend over - the cord rewinds automatically w/the push of a button - the suction is very strong The only thing negative about it is that the bags have been hard to find. Couldn't find them locally so I had to purchase via the internet, but that's only a minor inconvenience.

First of all, although this has nothing to do with the quality of the product I was very impressed that I received it only a day after I placed my order - even with the free ground shipping. That aside, this little bissell cleaning machine is great! Now I know why Bissell is so highly regarded in the vacuum world. It has a cute, compact design and although some parts look cheap (it is plastic afterall) the cleaning power is amazing. I live in an apartment with hardwood floors and large area throw rugs. The vacuum has a floor setting + a rug setting and they both work perfectly. I'm so relieved I no longer have to tackle my hardwood or kitchen floors with the broom and dustpan. I also have two cats and the amount of hair, dust and fur the vacuum picked up after one quick sweep was incredible.I didn't realize how much invisible dreck I was living with. The easy-to-empty translucent dust cannister is great for that instant gratification of seeing how much dust/dirt it collects. Overall, I'm am more than satisfied with the value and quality of this product.

I have a Hoover Windtunnel upright vacuum cleaner that I use for rooms with wall-to-wall carpet. It is useless for bare floors (keels over at the slightest tug), and after years of sweeping dirt around I broke down and bought the Bissel Butler Revolution vacuum for my bare floors and area rugs. What a difference!! The vacuum is light enough so that it is no effort to move it around the floor, and it does an excellent job picking up dirt. I use this vacuum on wood, tile, area rugs, furniture, and stairs. I do have to lift the vacuum head up and place it over large objects (like the whole cheerios my kids are so good at dropping on the floor), but the amount of time and effort it saves compared with sweeping is well worth it. Also, after having used a Hoover on my wall-to-wall carpet, I had no idea that it was possible to vacuum the edges of the floor and have them come out clean, much less immaculate! Although the bags are small, the dust cup captures a lot of the dirt and is very easy to empty. I was hoping to find a lighter vacuum, but this one really isn't difficult to move around with at all, and it has a nice, long retracting cord -- another really nice convenience.

Vacuuming Doesn't Suck Anymore!!,

This review is from: Bissell 6700 Butler Revolution Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
As a new stay-at-home dad, I quickly grew to hate my wife's upright vacuum. It was difficult to manouver, heavy, and was too "thick" to get under edges of cabnets. Also, it was as loud as a jackhammer and woke up the babies. So, I started doing serious comparison shopping for a cheap canister vac for light cleaning.
Let me tell you, I hit the jackpot with the Bissell 6700 Butler Revolution Canister Vacuum. Not only was it incredibly low priced, but it's a bundle of well-engineered and thoughful features. The extremely efficent and easy-to-use dirt-trap catches virtually all of the debris before it gets to the bag. So, the vacuum doesn't progressively loose power like most bag-vacuums seem to do. Also, since it's clear, you can see what you've collected. So if you hear a PING while using the telescoping handle (another great feature) to suck up the Cherios from behind the washing machine (it's a toddler-thing), then you can easily see if it was a lost diamond ring, or a penny. It's also very quiet, rolls easily, has a cleanly-retracting cord, a convinent carrying handle, and a "Bag Full" indicator light. I'm mightily impressed! This is, hands down, the best vacuum I've ever used. The only missing feature that would keep it from being the best-ever is that it lacks a beater brush for carpet. However, it's powerful enough that our carpets look better than they did with our old upright-with-a-beater-brush. This rinks with my TiVo and iPod as a completely-necessiary gadget. |
