This review is from: Bissell 35755 Cleanview HEPA Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
I spent a lot of time looking for a replacement vacuum after my Eureka broke. I saw a lot of other cheaper vacuums out there, but they just didn't have the features that I wanted, or a name that stood for reliability. For the money, this vacuum is great. It really picks up the dirt and cat hair from my carpet. It's suction power is impressive! And Bissell offers probably the best value for the options, like the bagless technology and attachments.

The hose for the attachments also has a good suction power. It may even be a little too strong if the object you're hand vacuuming isn't tied down. When I'm using the hose on my bathroom rugs, I have to hold them down because the suction is so strong. The attachments are also well located on the vacuum. They don't fall off or get in the way like attachments on other vacuums sometimes do. They stay in their place really well.

The bagless technology is very convenient and easy to use. You can see how much you picked up and how full the dirt cup by just looking at the front of the vacuum. The best part about the dirt cup is that it is easy to remove. Just move the lever over and pull out the cup. Then you can dump the dirt and rinse off the cup in the sink, stick it back in, and then push the lever back. Really simple.

The headlight lights up dark places pretty well. It is located a little higher than usual, which is a slight disadvantage when you get up under items. This is the only inconvienence I've had with the vacuum so far.

The filters are nice and sturdy and washable. They aren't HEPA filters, but they are nice, quality filters that should do the job for most people. The power cord is also nice and long, with a flip down top latch, so you don't have to unwind the cord to go.

The vacuum has plenty of carpet height settings. Also, it has two settings for the handle (plus upright) -- one for vacuuming normally, the other for vacuuming under furniture. Very handy.

Assembly is quick and simple. All I had to do was snap on the handle and screw it in with one screw.

I am very impressed with this vacuum and I would highly recommend it to anyone - small apartment to big house.

This review is from: Bissell 35755 Cleanview HEPA Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
Let me state that I am a stickler for quality and functionality in a product (everyone should be). I'm not asking for much. After researching and shopping extensively for a decent bagless upright vac in the $250 and under range, many I recently purchased greatly fell short of their potential, due to many glaring design flaws or shortcomings. It blows my mind how some manufacturers bring utter junk to market!!! As just one example, a bagless vac (not a Bissell) I bought recently (and returned), had great suction, great ergonomic features, great ease of use, BUT the dirt collection bin was cumbersome and messy to use when emptying its contents. It actually had a filter INSIDE the 2-piece dirt collection bin (2-piece bins are a joke and unwieldy), and it always came loose and apart when emptying the dirt, so that one had to actually handle and re-clean the dirty filter after every usage!!! Which is why I came here to amazon to conduct some research the other day, and found a 5-star rating for this Bissell. Overall, it is a good bagless vac, and a good value for the money, but it lacks in some areas. Mainly:

1) It is way too noisy and slightly hard to push. It does not roll as easily as many other vacs, even on hard floors and highest settings on low pile carpets. My older Fantom Wildcat glides over carpets, and a recent Hoover I tried almost propelled itself it was so effortless.

2) It needs a side or front handle for those moments when you must vacuum a small throw rug, bathroom rug, or stairs. How do you grasp this vac properly/ergonomically when you must engage in these common tasks?!

3) It does NOT come with a universal, 'upholstery' attachment tool!! What a glaring ommission this is, given that most other vacs come with this very basic tool included. I always use such a tool for cleaning dog hair off of my couch, vacuuming bed mattresses when replacing sheets, cleaning stairs and inside closets, etc. I don't think Bissell realizes how necessary this tool is.

4) The handle seems to wiggle a bit and has some play, even though it is slid in entirely with the screw attached. Over time, this play will get much worse. I may just have to krazy glue or epoxy the handle in.

The positives are:

1) It is a good value for the price, and works decently.

2) It has a very user-friendly and well engineered dirt collection bin which is a pleasure to use. Mega-kudos to Bissell for this design.

Interestingly enough, though, this vac was rated LOWEST in overall scores amongst a field of about 25 upright vacs that were tested in the September 2002 issue of 'Consumer Reports' magazine!!! They claim emissions and noise are high, and cleaning ability is merely average. It is incredible how the majority of the reviewers here give this product 5 stars, and CR mag rates it low to average!!!! I tell you, its really difficult being an 'educated consumer' these days due to conflicting claims.

I'll keep the Bissell anyway, as I am at wits end looking for the holy grail of affordable bagless uprights. My conclusion is it doesn't exist!

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Sucker!, August 23, 2003
This review is from: Bissell 35755 Cleanview HEPA Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
Normally not the type of person to write a review about a VACUUM CLEANER, but this isn't your run of the mill vacuum either! My old vacuum died the same day that the Bissell Bagless here showed up on my "Gold Box"... very curious. Amazon must know more about me and my recommendations than they let on!

Anyway, I bought the vacuum, put it together in, like, 5 minutes (requires a phillips head screwdriver) and started cleaning. Wow! After running the Bissell over the rug in my living room I stopped to check the dust collector - holy [cow] was there a lot of dirt, carpet fuzz, hair, etc in that cup! I couldn't believe it! We had just cleaned the rug a few days earlier with the old bagged vac - amazing! I dumped the cup and kept going... the rug looked amazing; kind of weird to describe I guess (had to be there!)

The wand/hose attachment is very sweet too. I was able to get in to the little space where the molding meets the rug (never could get that spot with the old vac or the dustbuster!) and suck out years of dust and grody hair that had taken up residence in this crevice.

Long story, but this is the GREATEST vacuum I have ever personally used on a rug - and it does a SUPER job on bare wood floors too! Oh, and the stairs... clean as a whistle.

Go ahead and buy this vacuum and throw away the old upright in the closet, that "trendy" Euro Shark (doesn't work anyway, right?) the little battery powered dustbuster (that won't pick up anything larger than a cake crumb). All of 'em can be replaced with this vacuum!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Vacuum for The $$$, August 21, 2002

This review is from: Bissell 35755 Cleanview HEPA Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
I'm an engineer; I like to research the products I need so I can make an informed purchase. I wasn't looking for an expensive vacuum--just a good, solid, well engineered vacuum with convenient features at a decent price; under $$$.

This vacuum had everything I was looking for...light weight and manueverable, a filter system, bagless collection that is easy to dump, onboard hose/tools that are ready to use without a conversion process, and a long cord. This vacuum has it all...and more...at a price below what I had expected to pay.

This vacuum also has great suction through both the brush venturi as well as the hose pickup. The clear dirt container eliminates the guesswork whether it is time to empty...and it removes smoothly and locks back into place without having to "tug" out and "snap" back like other similar vacuums require. (Dust/dirt doesn't spill out during emptying.)

Other features I like are the double edge cleaning, headlight and furniture protection guard--And, the hose/tools are always there, hooked up and ready to go. Very convenient!

This is one purchase that I feel I got my money's worth. A great value!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bissell does it again, June 24, 2002

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Bissell 35755 Cleanview HEPA Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
Before buying my new vacuum, I researched bagless vacs to find the highest ratings from consumers. The Bissell name kept popping up - especially this model. I have had a Bissell steam cleaner for a couple of years, and love the quality and ease of use, but was not stuck on only buying the Bissell brand. I read nothing but great things about this model, but the extremely low price worried me! With some trepidation, I gave this bagless vac a chance. I am so glad I did. This vac is lightweight, easy to push, quiet, and boy did it suck up some crud! I thought my carpets were pretty clean until using this vac - be prepared to be disgusted by what it will suck out of your floor. I give this vac two thumbs up, and would recommend it to anyone. I don't know why it's half the price of other bagless vacs, but it doesn't have anything to do with quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great performance, Great Value, May 20, 2002

This review is from: Bissell 35755 Cleanview HEPA Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
This is my first bagless vacuum, and so far I am very impressed. It has lots of power, and adjustable height settings so I can use it on my hardwood floors and carpeting. The dirt cup is very easy to empty and I couldn't believe how much dust and dirt was on my floors. The accessory hose is nice and flexible and it has a few tools that I used to clean the crumbs from my couch crevices. The power cord is long enough that I only had to unplug it once to be able to reach all the rooms in my house. I would have expected to pay quite a bit more for a vacuum that performs this well. Thanks Bissell!

5.0 out of 5 stars A little dynamo!, April 12, 2002
By
This review is from: Bissell 35755 Cleanview HEPA Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
I am a big fan of bag-less vacuums. After only one year our large cumbersome Dirt Devil Bag-less went to vacuum heaven so it was time to look.... I'm happy to report that this Item won't be returned to [local store]. This little dynamo does everything I had hoped it would do. FILTRATION and MAINTENANCE: I am actually glad there is no HEPA filter... dual stage filtration works well on this vacuum. It has an inner sponge filter, which is easily accessible and washable unlike many filters in many vacuums. You need only wash this once in a while and it only takes seconds. As mentioned in the other reviews this dirt cup is a breeze to remove and dump and is actually a plus that it is small for it makes you clean it every or every other use which is good for lower dust accumulation in the house. PERMORMANCE: Wow does this little guy have power. It has all the power and more of any upright I have ever owned yet it is small and easily maneuverable.
... I am now convinced that Bissel gives you a lot of Bang for the Buck... Take a chance on this vacuum you shouldn't be dissapointed...

5.0 out of 5 stars No more dirty bags, April 2, 2002
By
This review is from: Bissell 35755 Cleanview HEPA Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
I love this vacuum. I was so tired of buying bags all the time for my old vacuum that I thought it was time to try one of these that didn't use bags. It is so cool. I was amazed at how much dirt and hair it picks up every time I use it. It is so easy to empty and clean the dirt cup, and all the filters are washable. That means no more trips for me to the store searching for the right size bag and filter. I figure I am saving ...by not having to buy the bags or filters. I've already talked my sister into buying one and she loves it too.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's a monster, Mrs. Smith., March 6, 2003
This review is from: Bissell 35755 Cleanview HEPA Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
I bought a Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner about 4 years ago and was very disappointed right from day one. Eventually I was using a push powered carpet sweeper (like those ones they use in restaurants), because it did a better job, but I really did have a hankering for a decent electric vacuum cleaner at a reasonable price. If I could have gotten the old Hoover my grandmother used in the 1950's I would have jumped at it, but for some reason vacuum cleaner technology seems to have gone steadily backwards with time.

When I got this home, I found it was real easy to assemble and boy, could it clean floors! On hard kitchen floors, on carpets, on rugs, on my painted concrete lanai, it just sucked up dirt like there was no tomorrow. One thing I like was that the cord is plenty long enough, so you don't have to keep replugging every few strokes. The other thing is that it doesn't just pick up dirt, it practically reconditions your carpets.

On the downside, this thing is about as heavy as a push mower, which is quite a consideration when you live in a hot state like Florida. On the other hand you could see it as a piece of multitasking weight training equipment that enables you to get in shape while you clean house. Two for the price of one. It also makes about as much noise as a jumbo jet flying directly overhead.

I don't know if it is the best vacuum cleaner out there, but it is certainly the most potent I have ever used, and I am sure I will develop some new muscles with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The miracle vacuum!, July 2, 2002

This review is from: Bissell 35755 Cleanview HEPA Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
This vacuum is a miracle from God! I had just vacuumed Sunday (with my old Eureka) and when my new Bissell arrived Tuesday I immediately vacuumed. I couldn't believe how much dirt and dog hair my new Bissell picked up. I had to empty the dirt cup three times (and I only have a condo!). The dirt cup is so easy to remove and clean and the vacuum is pretty light (about half the weight of my old Eureka). In fact, I was so impressed I bought the same vacuum for my parents today. I would highly recommend this to anyone!
