Read The Assembly Instructions and You Wont Have a Problem,
This review is from: Bissell Natural Sweep Dual Brush Sweeper, 92N0A (Kitchen)
Having used one of these years ago, I figured that, for the money, this was worth a try. With a newly crawling baby, two cats, a dog, and two adolescent girls, this would seem a good way to keep the floor and rug where my daughter crawls around clean. Since it is human powered and light-weight, it is ideal for quick cleanups without the hassle of cords, noise, or dust. On floors and rugs it has done well, picking up as well as a broom and much more conveniently.
As for the complaints of other reviewers regarding the handle: Read the Assembly instructions! The instructions clearly state that after the pieces are assembled, but before they are screwed on, they should be driven into place by striking down on a hard surface (Covered to prevent marring). This will drive the tapered sections together firmly. If you follow the directions on the box, the handle is not a problem. My only complaint so far is the ability to clean into corners could be improved, but for the cost, I'm still very pleased.

A good sweeper that requires some patience.,

I actually wanted to purchase a different Bissell sweeper model, but this is the only one that I could find for sale in my town, so I gave up and bought it. I saved my receipt because I expected that I would want to return it.
First of all, the instructions for assembly are printed in light green on the inside flap of the box. I followed them and it assembled very quickly. The handle is made of several tapered metal tubes that have to be nested inside one another. I put a newspaper down on our brick hearth and really jammed that handle down to secure the tapered tubes. They went together really snugly. I can't pull them apart now if I wanted to, and they are easily hefty-enough to handle the initial abuse. Then you just screw the handle onto the cleaning head, being careful to secure it tightly, and it's ready to go. I have three kids - 8, 6, and 1. There are food particles on my floor all the time. I bought the sweeper to take over for my broom which gets used about six times daily. At first I was really dissappointed with it's performance on my linoleum floor. It didn't pick up anything. The cheerios just got pushed around. I flipped it over and realized that the brush rollers are positioned up off of the floor slightly, to accommodate carpet pile. However, the wheels are able to flex up into the sweeper body, so I decided to try it again, pushing down on the handle firmly to ensure contact between the sweeper rolls and the linoleum. Presto! It works like a charm, and picks up everything. I have been using it now for several days, and I have definitely decided to keep it. It's "loosening up" a bit, and really works well. It won't replace my broom for more detailed cleaning, but I love the time it saves me for keeping things tidy. Last night it picked up about a half-cup of sticky angel hair pasta from under the high chair.

I bought this product today and I'm thoroughly satisfied with it. It picks up just about everything. A few quick sweeps in both directions in any area will give you a nice clean floor.

Just what I wanted!,

This works like a charm! It cleans the crumbs off my rug AND my hardwood floor. I looked high and low for a sweeper that didn't require batteries or plugging in and this totally fit the bill. I'm very happy with how well it works.
I love how easy it is to clean out the pans that collect the crumbs and dirt that it picks up as it cleans. You just push down on the buttons on either side and it empties right into your garbage can. There's a pan release on both the front and back of the sweeper. You can even pull out the 2 rotating brushes (to pull out all the pesky hair that gets twisted around them) and put them back in - it's really easy! As for the handle issue, as one reviewer noted, you MUST hammer together the two pieces as instructed. Problem solved. I highly recommend this sweeper - it works well, it's quiet, it's easy to use. I've had mine for several months now and I love it!

Faulty Handle!,

I followed the instructions for assembling the handle exactly, my husband and I both have tried unsuccessfully to "strike" the handle hard enough to secure the sections. It constantly comes apart, even the part where it screws in comes off, which is unrelated to the tapered sections. Save your money- I am so disappointed because I have a dog and two messy little boys and I was hoping this would work for us. We aren't idiots and it is definitely not an issue with how it was assembled. It is clearly a faulty product.

I got this as a gift from my mom after I mentioned that I was looking for a cordless sweeper. Overall, I am not pleased with it. I have to sweep one area several times before it will pick up some particles, like small pieces of paper. But, as the other reviews state, it is good at picking up hair. This is also a bit noisier than I expected...it makes a screetching noise as I sweep. I had a similar sweeper years ago that picked up so much more and was much quieter. The other reviews comment that it is very quiet so perhaps I just got a faulty one. Fortunately, my mom bought it at a local store and kept the receipt so I can take it back. Bottom line...I wouldn't recommend it.
12/25/09 Update: I decided to try this product for a few more days ....well, like the other reviews said, the handle comes off so easily. I spend more time trying to reattach the handle than I spend using the product. It is really frustrating. I initially gave this 3 stars but I am changing my rating to 1 star. I will be taking it back tomorrow.

Hello! I received this item and was all ready to "deal" with the handle assembly issues, but found that the manufacturer has changed the handle to a threaded connection system. Kudos Bissell! It has good pick up and easy to clean rollers and such. Buy with confidence! R

We have a low pile Berber carpet, a high pile softer carpet, and vinyl in our house and this thing picked up on all three surfaces no problems. No problems at the transitions either. Just using a back and forth motion over about 2-3 foot span at a time it picked up Cherrios, puffs (parents you know what I mean), hair, dirt, lint, dried mud, dog hair, and every little random object in it's path! Easy to dump out and doesn't have many crevasses so you can just wipe it with a wet rag or a cleaning wipe (Lysol, Scotch Brite, Clorox, whatever) to keep it clean. I have a 10 month old and we just kind of follow him around with it! Helps us vacuum less which he HATES the vacuum. Makes practically no noise too so I can use it at nap time.
Follow assembly instructions (easy enough) and within minutes you'll have a great little "dog". My husband said he'd EASILY pay double for it now that he's seen it work! Very very worth it!

Cleaning up,

I really like this sweeper. It has two brushes, so it picks up twice the dirt, and it can be used on bare floors or on carpen, so it's a whole house quick clean between vacuuming.

Going back to the store!,
This review is from: Bissell Natural Sweep Dual Brush Sweeper, 92N0A (Kitchen)
I don't have the problem with the handle falling apart that other reviewers have mentioned. In fact, I now want to return it and neither I nor my DH can get it apart!
Unfortunately, I DO have the problem of it not picking up anything from my hardwood floors, my tile, or my bamboo rug. Since the sole purpose of a sweeper is to SWEEP, I am returning it ASAP. Not only that, when you try to empty it, the stuff it did manage to pick up goes all over the floor. Very disappointed, and I can not recommend this product to anyone. |
