The floor looked worse after vacuuming.

I wouldn't dare try to empty the canisters inside my house because dirt gets all over, dropping down from the upper canister after I take out the middle canister.

I have used it for 7 months and it stopped working (properly).

This is a really good vacuum for the money. It's very lightweight, which I love for carrying it around my 3 story townhouse. It also sucks up a lot. 2 words of caution: the bucket that catches everything fills up pretty quickly. Err on the side of emptying it often while you're vacuuming. Also, make sure you clean the filter after every couple of uses. It seems to get dirty quickly and then the vacuum starts to spit out dirt, especially when you unhook the hose to do the stairs and stuff. All of this may be b/c I vacuum often (2-3 times a week) and have 2 kids, 2 dogs, and 1 cat running in and out of the house. I probably have more dirt to pick up than other people (hence the 2-3 times a week vacuuming). Good luck!

I purchased this vacuum at Walmart about 1.5 years ago for around $50.00. This vacuum works like a champ. In the past year and a half I have used it every day and it works great at extracting dust and even larger particles such as kitty litter out of carpet. My only complaint is the length of the hose. I am unable to reach the heating and cooling vents in my home when using the attachments and hose without also lifting the base of the vacuum off the ground. That is my only issue but because of the price I can't deduct a star for that reason alone.

I had never been compelled to write a product review until after using the Bissell PowerForce Helix dust blower. I refer to it as a dust blower because that is precisely, indeed solely, what it does. It picks up dirt, dust and debris from one end and blows it out another. The result: a room that is dustier and messier after 'vacuuming'.

This was given to me as a housewarming gift so I never had a receipt, and I threw away the box before using it. Otherwise, I would have taken it to the store for a reimbursement immediately. I am not a discerning vacuum-er. Until now I had always lived in shared apartments with hand-me-down vacuum cleaners that more or less did the trick. I would gladly trade this piece of junk for any used vacuum cleaner, but would rather spare some other sorry soul from succumbing to the same dusty fate.

For any of you Amazon shoppers who have seen the film 'Office Space', I will promptly be giving this sorry excuse for American manufacturing the same treatment as the ill-fated printer.

Like most folks who buy vacuums that don't cost a lot, I couldn't afford a lot, but I really expected it to last more than a couple of months.
I have a small house and two dogs, and yes, the dogs track in a lot of dirt and shed a lot, but a lot of people have pets so I'm not unique in my desire to have a vacuum that works property and picks up a lot of dirt and hair.
The main problem I have with this vacuum is that the canister is so small that it constantly needs emptying, which wouldn't be that big of a deal if it was easy to empty, but the fact is it doesn't have one canister. It's three canisters stacked on top of each other, and two of those canisters have multiple parts and filters and they all get filled up with tiny little particles of dirt.
In other words, it's messy to clean all those canisters and parts. I feel like I need another vacuum to clean this vacuum.
I wouldn't dare try to empty the canisters inside my house because dirt gets all over, dropping down from the upper canister after I take out the middle canister. Afterwards, I feel like I want to take a shower because that fine dirt just flies all over.
And today, I heard a big clunk, and found out the roller has stopped working. So no I would not recommend this vacuum. I didn't buy this on amazon; bought it at Walmart but I wanted to warn people.

I have a Shark Navigator that has given me several faithful years of service. I have four kids and a dog and vacuuming every day is a must. Recently I needed to drop off my Shark for service. Since I can't go more than a day or two without vacuuming I picked up this Bissel to use in the meantime and have on hand as a spare. Like most other vacuums in this price point (I paid last at a local retailer then what it's priced for here on Amazon) it looks and feels cheap, but it actually does a pretty darn good job of picking up the dirt. The bottom cup fills up pretty quickly so I would recommend you empty it after every use. It's very lightweight and easy to carry up and down the stairs. My only real complaint about this vacuum is that it makes horrible high-pitched whiny noise. I don't think this is the kind of vacuum that would hold up over time for someone who vacuums as often as I do, but for someone who's only going to use this a couple times a week, for the price, it's a good buy.

My mom gave me this vacuum used when I went off to college, it's been working great for at least 7 years now and still going! I vacuum a couple times a week, have 2 dogs, one of which is a high shed husky, and live in a house with a bunch of other college kids. It picks up dog hair and dirt really well, so much so that I usually empty the dust collector once per room, but the vacuum makes it easy to empty out. Washing the vacuum parts is also really easy, everything comes out and can be washed under running water. For the price, this vacuum is such a good deal!
I'm also in love with the Febreze line of vacuum filters, they make the whole room smell nice when you vacuum!
