Product Description

Velocity Bagged Upright Vacuum, Black, 3863

by BISSELL

Upright Vacuum Cleaners

Designed to make quick work of whole rooms and larger areas, our family of upright vacuums includes multi-surface cleaning, pet cleanup, and Lift-Off 2-in-1 options.

Which type of vacuum is better -- bagless or bagged?

Neither type of vacuum is “better” than the other. BISSELL testing shows that with proper maintenance, both can clean equally well. The cleaning performance of an individual vacuum depends on many different factors. A bagged vacuum will lose its cleaning effectiveness as the bag fills with debris. The bag must be changed when it is about 1/2 to 2/3 full for the best cleaning performance. The choice between a bagged and bagless vacuum really depends on your personal preference.

What makes the Velocity Bagged Rewind vacuum different from a regular bagged vacuum?

The Dirt Path Window allows you to see the dirt you pick up before it enters the bag. The bag is easy to install and monitor for fullness in between uses.

How to keep vacuums running and looking their best

There’s nothing like a quick sweep of the vacuum to freshen a home. It’s a small thing that can make a big difference, much like changing or cleaning the filters in your vacuum. Just like carpets need special care, so do vacuums. Did you know that the BISSELL Velocity Bagged Rewind vacuum has three filters? If you begin to notice performance issues, it may be time to either replace or clean your filters. For non-washable filters, we recommend they be replaced regularly for optimal performance. Clean filters are important as they help to capture dust and other particles that pass through the filter while vacuuming. To get the most out of your vacuum, remember to clean or replace your filters regularly and rely on specially designed filters directly from BISSELL.

Why Febreze Vacuum Bags?

Febreze Vacuum Bags give you the ultimate cleaning experience. Odor eliminators neutralize household malodors, leaving behind the fresh and clean feeling of Febreze while you vacuum.

No-mess convenience of a bagged vacuum, plus a Febreze bag to eliminate odors!
  • Includes a Febreze bag to eliminate odors and leave your home smelling fresh as you vacuum!
  • No-mess bag removal - Toss bag when full, no mess! Febreze Vacuum Bags capture allergens and neutralize household malodors while you vacuum.
  • See the dirt and debris - The unique dirt path window lets you see the dirt you pick up before it enters the bag
  • Automatic Cord Rewind - Fast and easy cord storage with just the push of a button

This vacuum has a few nice features that set it apart from others in this price range, but overall it's about average. There were a couple things I really liked and others that could have been better.

Here are my thoughts on some of the key features and using this vacuum:

Cord Rewind

The cord rewind feature is my favorite thing about this cleaner. The cord itself can be pulled out all the way or just partially for when you're vacuuming a small space and don't need a long cord. When you're done vacuuming, there's a cord rewind button on the side of the cleaner that automatically pulls the cord back in. You have to do it carefully so the plug isn't whipping around, but it's very easy to use. It keeps the cord neat and out of sight which is a big plus for me.

Febreze Scented Bags

This is kind of a cool idea to help freshen the areas you vacuum. The scented bag releases a light scent when you vacuum. It's probably not enough to cover up some odors, but it's also not annoyingly strong. Two Febreze scented bags are included. Unscented bags are also available.

Changing the Bag/Dirt Collection

There's a bag tank in the front of the vacuum that contains the bag. Putting the bag in was easy and there were no issues.

Right above the bag tank is the clear "dirt-path" window where you can see the dirt coming in as you vacuum. When I opened the bag tank to check the bag, a few chunks of dirt and dust fell down from this dirt path window area and onto the floor. The blue lid of the canister is also lightly covered with vacuum dust and dirt although I've only been using it for a week. I'm not sure of the point of this clear window since it just seems to be a place where dirt accumulates and ends up falling down.

After a number of flops and bad experiences with vacuums not performing up to par I had decided that Eureka made the only vacuum worth owning. My most recent purchase was of the Eureka AirSpeed and as much as I hate to admit it I wasn't as impressed as I'd hoped to be. While the attachments on that one are great (the rubberized texture really grabs pet hair) the suction is subpar. When I had the chance to try out this Bissell I jumped at it. I personally hate bagless vacuums (I don't want to see or have to potentially touch the junk I suck up, which often includes any spiders I find inside my house) and I was intrigued by the idea of the self winding cord though typicallyt hey are far too short.

The vacuum arrived yesterday and I've already gotten my couple month old Eureka ready to drop off for donation! That's right, this one is that much better! Not that it really matters but it's very nice looking, the black, dark brown, and light blue blend together really nicely. It does feel heavier to push then my Eureka however I feel that extra weight is a great help in keeping it pressed down to the carpet and giving it a bit extra power to suck out more dirt. I was happily surprised by the length of the cord, while I still needed to switch plugs to get my entire living/dining room carpet it was much longer then I expected and the auto rewind works quickly and flawlessly.

I usually think scented bags are nothing but a gimmick but in this case I was again happily surprised. I really love this particular scent of Fabreeze and was thrilled when I was able to smell it as I vacuumed, with a large dog in the house I suck up a bunch of pet hair and often you can get that gross warmed up pet hair smell while vacuuming, this time it was nothing but clean fresh scent.

I'll start with the disclaimer that I am a HUGE Electrolux fan, and that the last 3 vacuum cleaners I've bought have been the their canister models. That said, I really needed something that would work better on carpet. I think this Bissell is very close to being perfect.

I have a variety of carpet lengths, and the shag is always too thick for my canister to clean deeply. I felt like this Bissell model did a better job on my carpet than my $1500 Kirby! And it doesn't weigh 75 lbs like the Kirby (okay, that's an exaggeration, but it is much lighter!).

The Bissell is quieter than the Kirby but still louder than any of the Electroluxes I've owned. However, that may just be a feature of uprights. It has a handle for easy carrying (unlike the Kirby which makes you bend down to the floor to pick it up) and a nice variety of attachments that actually stick to their holders on the vacuum cleaner.

The reason for the 4 star rating is the fact that the beater brush keeps running when you are using the hand/hose attachment, which means you have to pay attention to where the unit is sitting (like not on top of rug fringe, et cetera).

Overall, I think this is an excellent carpet cleaner for the price.

I have used this product for almost three months now and I am glad I saved the box. I will be taking it back to Lowes this week. The biggest problem with this vacuum cleaner is that it tips over when you use the hose attachment. It appears that the place where the attachment hose actually connects the the vacuum is too high. While you are busy using the hose attachment and you create that full suction where the hose shrinks up; it tips the entire vacuum over and frequently falls over on the unsuspecting operator. I can't count the number of times this vacuum cleaner has attacked me in this fashion. I love the retractable cord but it is just not worth the pain of being attacked. The second problem with this vacuum is the side suction...it sucks.....or rather it does not suck. It does not pick up even little things along the wall or baseboards unless you use the hose attachment which is painful. In short, this is a design flaw that should have been corrected by now. I had a Bissell several year ago that did the same thing.
