"Bitch Factor" was so good, and so believable that I could not put it down! As a former Police Officer (Detective on a Police Force in a Minnesota location), and avid reader, I found this story to be one of the best ever! The character, Dixie Flannigan and her dog Mud, wormed their way into my heart within minutes and I shall be looking for anything written by one of the most talented authors ever! Chris Rogers can be compared to Mary Higgins Clark and all the other terrific writers! "Bitch Factor" gave the picture of a gentle-tough gal, living and working, as a realistic person, and as a good book should, I could put myself in her shoes throughout the story. The snow storm was so realistic that anyone who has lived in the north would visualize themselves experiencing the same. Ms. Rogers shows so much talent as a writer that I am waiting anxiously for her next book, and I hope dozens more, of Dixie Flannigan's experiences.

Critics who did n! ot like this story seem to be unable to realize a real life situation and probably live a most sheltered life. "Bitch Factor" shows life as it is, and those of us who have lived close to the edge know the life protrayed as Dixie Flannigan in "Bitch Factor", is what it really is like out there. "Bitch Factor" will be given, by me, to many friends that also love a great read.

Keep up the great writing Ms. Rogers. Write for those of us who appreciate a talented, thrilling, suspense, tension filled, humor-packed, adventure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best first book I've read in a long time., March 30, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Bitch Factor (Hardcover)
Chris Rogers is going to be a wonderful writer. Her heroine is unique, first because she is a female bounty hunter and second because she is very real to me. If you were to substitute the word Bitch with strong and smart you would be closer to her persona but, of course, she wouldn't sell nearly as many first books, would she?

This is the beginning of a very long and fruitful writing career for a very good author. If I had to criticize one aspect of her writing, it is that she gave me almost too much information about Dixie. One of the things I enjoy most about the characters I follow is discovering more about their past lives in each successive book.

Welcome to the female mystery writers' club. You are already on my favorites list and I can tell you are headed to the top!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Beach Book, July 3, 2001
The title caught my interest along with the flourescent orange cover page. The rest of the book kept my interest. This book is about a Houston bounty hunter, Dixie Flannigan, who goes after FTA Parker Dann. Dann is accused of killing a child in a drunk-driving accident and is running away from the prospect of a long prison term. Once she tracks him down, she needs to use every part of her tough-girl facade to get him back and before she starts to believe he's innocent. I liked Flannigan, because she reminded me of Stephanie Plum and Kinsey Milhone. I liked the way the story unfolded, although I found it predictable. And I liked the cast of characters that filled this book with humour and adventure. I also liked this book, because it's short and can be read in a day or two.

As an avid reader of books of the type BITCH FACTOR was attempting to be (ie, Sara Paretsky's and Sue Grafton's books), I eagerly dove into this book prepared to enjoy it. Instead, I became disenchanged before the end of the first chapter. It is not that Dixie Flannigan is not an intriguing character--she is. She is just not the kind of character the author and the book jacket tell us she is. The only thing tough and hardened about her is her description of herself. Her actions never bear this description out. If every reference to the word "bitch" were removed from the book, and the author allowed Dixie to be the quick-thinking, caring woman that her actions tell us she is, the book would have been very enjoyable, with only one further exception. The characters of Dixie's family are interesting and believable, and the characters involved in the plot are likewise brilliantly drawn. Why the author feels it necessary to introduce the absolutely unbelievable and one-dimensional characters of "Pearly White" and "Smoke," the geriatric computer experts, or the Robin Hood-esque teenaged car thieves, I cannot imagine. What disappointed me the most about this book was that it has a unique and unpredictable plot, a likable heroine, and, for the most part, well-drawn perpheral characters, and I was unable to enjoy it. I wish Chris Rogers would read JA Jance's "Joanna Brady" books, or Julie Smith's "Skip Langdon" and realize that not all female sleuths have to be "tough as nails" to be likable or successful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book!!!!!, December 10, 1998

The title of this book intrigued me-had to give it a try. It was a pleasant surprise. Dixie is a delightful character who's tough with a softie side. I had a hard time putting this book down and can hardly wait for the next in this series. I'm hooked on Dixie Flannigan!!

5.0 out of 5 stars good reading, memorable characters, February 13, 1998

This review is from: Bitch Factor (Hardcover)
Chris Rogers has crafted a fast-moving story with characters who are believable and, in fact, memorable. The dialog is human and the story has just enough turns to keep it interesting. A resident of the Houston area, where the author lives, I attended the book launch and first scheduled signing. The word is that the books went so fast, the publisher's representative was scrambling to meet the demand, commenting this was the most successful first signing she had ever seen. I can't wait to read the next in the series, as much as anything else, to learn more about Dixie.

I really enjoyed Dixie and her way of doing things. I thought the whole thins was very believeable, from the snow storm in South Dakato to the very end. It is the first book I have read in a long time that I wanted to skip and read the last chapter to see how it ended. I started reading and did not want to put it down. Way to go CHRIS ROGERS.

The book starts out strong and keeps up the suspense until the very end. Dixie is an interesting character; she's funny, strong, and gutsy yet manages to seem real and even vulnerable at times. The hint of romance added a nice dimension to the whole story. I look forward to reading the rest of the novels in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book and Great Character, February 8, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Bitch Factor (Hardcover)
This is a story about Dixie (the hot-shot DA turned bounty hunter) and not just a bounty hunter but a bona-fide first class bitch. Although I don't think she is as tough on the inside as she likes to pretend she is. I thought the part where they got stuck in North Dakota in a snowstorm and slid off the road was funny. Dann asked her if she got her drivers license by mail-order. Her dog Mud is really great to. This book reminded me of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum but Dixie has a harder edge. I can't wait for Chris Rogers to write her next book. Way to go Ms. Rogers.

5.0 out of 5 stars great debut-mesmerizing story--an in your face heroine, January 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Bitch Factor (Hardcover)
The toughest, most macho bounty hunter in Texas is Dixie Flannigan, who's seen everything and been phased by nothing. Her current assignment is to locate and bring in Parker Dann, a DUI accused of vehicular homicide. Parker fled the Houston scene when it became apparent that he was going spend a lot of time as a guest of the state.

Dixie quickly tracks down her target who is hiding in North Dakota. However, Dixie and Parker are stuck together due to a blizzard. The snowstorm gives Parker the opportunity to tell his side of the story. Surprising herself, she not only believes his proclamation of innocence, Dixie agrees to investigate what really happened. Back in Texas, Parker moves into Dixie's home, an amazing event since Dixie doesn't even have many visitors. He not only charms his hostess but her shockingly vicious canine Mud as well. Meanwhile, Dixie begins to uncover what really happened on that fatal day and even her sarcastic mind has finally found something too horrific for her bitchiness to accept the reality of what really happened.

THE BITCH FACTOR is a novel that is loaded with suspense, action and several interesting characters. Dixie lives up to the book's title as she is the meanest bounty hunter the Lone Star State has ever seen. The story line is filled with tension of both the sexual and dangerous varieties. Fans of in your face females will want more works like this one from talented newcomer Chris Rogers.
