From the Back Cover

Hilarious, informative, and deliciously demented, the Bitchin’ Kitchen Cookbook is the guide for a new generation of foodies and lifestyle aficionados. From One-Night-Stand Breakfasts to Dump ‘Em Desserts, twisted mastermind and chef-comedienne Nadia G offers sixty succulent recipes, twenty Technicolor themes, and more madness than you can shake a prosciutto at (because we all need to shake a prosciutto at madness sometimes). Bitchin’ Kitchen isn’t your mom’s cookbook . . . um, unless your mom likes Bitchin’ Kitchen.

About the Author

Nadia Giosia, better known as “Nadia G,” is the deliciously twisted mastermind behind Bitchin’ Kitchen. She, along with the rest of the BK crew, recently won a 2007 WAVE Award for “Favorite Mobile Comedy Series,” and Web clips of Bitchin’ Kitchen can be downloaded by Verizon V-cast users in the States and numerous mobile phone providers across Canada. The Montreal-based comedian, actress, and graphic designer loves to eat, loves to cook, and loves to let the boys clean up the mess. Nadia G loathes Rachel Ray, and proclaims, “The days of Prozac-happy lifestyle hostesses are over. Welcome to the next generation of savoir-vivre.”

Eh, shaddap. I grabbed it right off the shelf just because the cover was so thoroughly insane. So was the book. Not having seen any of the show, I watched a few. Great stuff.

I've complained in the past that there's a lack of culinary humor out there. Nadia Giosia has done a remarkably fun (and borderline lunatic) job of helping to remedy that with her over-the-top screen presence and her tasty and creative recipes, and this book, a loud, often-hilarious menu cookbook that includes transcripts of the dialogue from the show along with frequent cheesecake shots of Nadia and three of her four male cast members, captures the spirit of the TV show perfectly, then goes it one better by concentrating the insanity into wall-to-wall photo collages loaded with food porn, costumes, and sight gags. The food is heavily Italian-accented, but well-chosen for each episode theme, with a strong New American (New Canadian?) accent.

If I have any complaints with it, it's that Nadia sometimes overplays her guidette character, using slang that I can only assume is rather more common in Canada than it is here in the US. That, and Hans... ick. Just too much 'bag in that character. (But hey, maybe the female and/or gay readers appreciate him more than I would.) But the food is excellent and the writing is fun and off-the-wall. Grab it, and use it to follow along with the show.

I just discovered Nadia and her show on the Cooking Channel. Apparently, from reading the book, she has been around for a while on the internet but I THINK the show is new.

She is very funny and entertaining. An "Edgy" food show if there is such a thing, the Punk Rock version of a cooking show. Like Anthony Bourdain if he were a smokin hot italian chic but happier and with a better sense of humor.

If you like cooking shows with humor whether you would consider actually making the dishes or not, you will like the show. The book is filled with a lot of humor as well as recipes at least some of which I would actually try and make.

Nadia G is the creator of a hit, hip, an award winning web and mobile cooking show and the source of the recipes she has gathered together to create "Nadia G's Bitchin' Kitchen Cookbook". Colorfully and provocatively illustrated throughout, Nadia G laces humor with her recipe instructions for 'kitchen cook friendly' dishes ranging from such exotic items as Chile raspberry Parfait, to mouth watering fare as a Chicken & Banana Curry, to such personal favorites as her Pot Au Chocolate. There's even such unexpected and unique dishes as Parsnip Chips with Sour Cream & Green Onion Dip (ideal for party time) and depression fighting fare like her Splitsville Salad with Caramelized Figs. Unique, unusual, and culinary cutting edge, "Nadia G's Bitchin' Kitchen Cookbook" is a highly prized and recommended addition to personal cookbook collections.

If you love Nadia's show you will probably love this book. It has the same humor that makes the show worth watching, at least for me. But what really surprised me was how complex these recipes are. Not complex in the sense that's will not try them, rather complex in I better take some time when I am making them. So this book proved to me that not only is Nadia a talented comedian, but she is also a talented cook and educator.

Recently having been forced to watch both the Food Network and Cooking Channel for hours on end, I found Bitchin' Kitchen to be a gale force breath of fresh, if not garlicky, air! The half hour TV program is just isn't enough for her die-hard fans, hence the book. One of my favorite sections is the glossary of terms, which you can view before you buy on this website. The show's humor is incredibly fast paced, so hitting pause and looking up an unfamiliar term can help keep you in the know! Wish it would be re-printed in hardback and personally autographed by the whole gang. I'd sure pay double for that! By the way, the recipies are legit, creative, and very flavorful. Even if you can't boil water without setting off smoke alarms, get this book! It also doubles as a fine (albeit undersized) coffee table book & conversation starter because the grahpics on evey page are fantastic. And, you will laugh your tokus off!

Having seen her new cooking show on the Cooking Channel, I was truly delighted. Her New World Italian vixen-meets-punk rock characters and that motley crew she parades for us each episode has done the best job yet of adding real humor to a cooking show. Not since the days of Graham Kerr, in his pre tea-totaling days, has anyone acted like this stuff is really fun and funny.

Apparently well-honed by her YouTube stint in Canada, the "new" show and the cookbook are a balancing act between outrageous and rib tickling, and exhibit solid cooking skills. For my money the Show and the Cookbook should be considered like Siamese twins - delightful to fantasize about yet inseparable.

Watch the show for the belly laughs and her ability to oscillate between 60s madonna and scary psycho-punker. Then try her recipes and experience her best viscerally. The book follows many of the same "modern life and romance" themes.

The cookbook is even funnier - I suspect it's because she isn't limited by the 22 minute thing - if possible, than the show, and - spoiler alert! - contains many of the same recipes and demented ideas as the show. Also many more not yet aired, and much more stuff of an adult nature. More uncharted cookbook stuff....

When her schizo-gal persona dialogues with herself: "She's Italian, they think pasta is the cure for everything".... (a pause) "It isssss" she hisses with true Sicilian venom, then reverts to her kittenish self, and we are willing to believe her.

It is difficult to adequately express how fun her show and this book - do them both for the full effect - are, from the gorgeous Ms. G to the silly men around her, and when it all boils down to a fine reduction and the heat is off, you have the really interesting recipes as a keep-sake.
