Problems with install and support,

According to the Amazon ad this product will run on Windows 2000. I bought a 5 PC
version and found it would not install. Since I was led to believe the product would run and the installation said otherwise, I tried to contact the Bitdefender. I got through to a live-chat representative of Bitdefender that wasn't too helpful, so I tried three times via there email support on their web page and from those inquiries I have yet get a response. I decided to try the chat again - this time the web interface directed me back to the email interface. I tried the 800 number to Bitdefender and a recording said they don't provide phone support on that number any more. I tried their 900 number and was put on hold for 4-5 minutes, then their system hung up on me. I called back and in 4-5 minutes of holding I was hung up on again. This has been really painful. One might question if it's wise to deal with Bitdefender.

Got this software right when it came out and it's everything Consumer Reports said it was. My PC is running like new... in fact better than new. Norton was slowing the thing down terribly. It also found a slew of viruses that Norton did not find. The other features like the gaming mode and file vault make this software a bargain. Definitely worth the #1 ranking!

When deciding a new antivirus package, it was between Bitdefender and Kaspersky. Both performed great during the 30day trial. I was very impressed with BD's firewall alerting me to attempted portscans and went with it. (it was also cheaper which helped). After purchasing it, everything went downhill. Had to uninstall/reinstall multiple times that first day to get it working. After about 7 weeks i got an alert saying my AV hasn't scanned for 10days. Tried to force a scan and get the error "scanner failed to start". This appears to be a very common problem with BD based on their website. The fix for it was to download some patch file and run it(why it's not a part of the normal patch download is beyond me) and that got the product working again...or so i thought. After 3 weeks i, again, get the message that the scan hasnt been run in 10days. Run the patch again..works fine..for a few more weeks..then breaks again and i run the patch YET AGAIN. As of this writing they also dont support Windows 7 beta. If you can get this thing to run without a hitch, it's a fine suite

Nothing But Problems,

While Bitdefender has impressive recommendations as I understand it from Consumer Reports, they didn't have the problems that I encountered. I am a good PC technical person, and the software did bizarre things on two machines. Both became unstable, losing network connectivity, blinking/blank monitors, and one PC became unbootable -- All this after six hours after installing. I was forced to rebuild both machines from backups and re-installs.
I returned the software the next day -- good return policy from Amazon, and I suggest that if you buy this software, be sure you can return if you want to roll the dice with Bitdefender. |
