I looked forward to trying Bitdefender Internet Security 2010 as it was a product that seemed to have a number of decent features. But let's get right to the point: there are better products on the market today worth considering. And with such products as the latest AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition, to name one, it's hard to recommend this one from Bitdefender, unless you're new to computing and just want an easy-to-install product.

I initially installed this product on two computers, an HP Presario notebook running Windows Vista, and on a Sony VAIO running Windows XP Professional. Both computers had all available software updates and Service Packs installed. There were no problems with the installation on either computer other than a number of mildly annoying little pop-ups and reboots, but if you've installed security and anti-virus applications before, then you are probably familiar with this happening.

Getting down to details...

Installation: For the most part, and other than the above noted minor annoyances, the setting up process was smooth, as should be expected with a contemporary package of this type.

Ease of Use: Bitdefender Internet Security 2010 was as good as any of the other "major" anti-virus and security packages on the market today. If you've been looking for an alternative to some of the other security products, then this operates as well as and in some cases even better than some of the higher prices packages.

Functionality/Protection: As one who has dealt with computer security and Internet protection for a number of years, this was the area that mean the most.

Yes, this is very tempting to purchase because of the price - I did. But, I curse my cheap gene to this day for buying this mistake. Here are my 2 reasons:

1) I had a problem with this product and customer service stopped responding my my emails. They responded only after I got the BBB involved.

2) One of their latest patches made it appear like win 7 64-bit computers were infected with a major trojan (see their web site for details). It happened to my wife's computer. I did not know what was going on I even re-installed windows just in case only to find out a week later that it was Bitdefender's fault.

doner really hates this product and will do a happy dance when this company goes under. Hours and hours of my time wasted because of Bitdefender.

I had used Bitdefender Antivirus 2008 and 2009, and despite some unsolved problems, they were never serious. So when it came time to renew, I thought I should upgrade to the more powerful Bitdefender Internet Security 2010 (IS2010). It was a big mistake!!!

After installing IS2010 on my Windows Vista notebook:

1. the parental control software (ComputerTime) would not work properly, even though this software served me wonderfully for over 4 years

2. my wife and daughters had difficulties logging into their Windows account - their screen will remain blank and nothing can be done unless the machine is rebooted, and I have to let them use my account

3. the IS2010 services would keep dying unexpectedly and I would have to reboot my machine. This happened daily and for today alone, it happened 3 times in 2 hours!

Of course, you may be wondering if all these problems were really due to IS2010. I wondered, too, and between contacting Bitdefender Support 3 times and awaiting their response, I experimented with re-installing IS2010, ComputerTime, etc. The problems remained until I totally uninstalled IS2010. Then all my problems went away and the whole family was happy again.

As for Bitdefender Support, they never responded to me at all even after a week. Of course, I'm mad. My computer is totally defenceless. I'm now demanding a refund but I seriously doubt they would respond.

I don't know how some software reviews could rate Bitdefender so highly. Maybe they are bought or impartial.

So save yourself the grief - AVOID THIS PRODUCT AND THIS COMPANY. They are flawed.

I am a cautious Internet user and most of time I don't need a security system because I don't visit suspicious sites at all. I use security software mainly for anti-virus and minimal internet security just for added protection, so I usually try to find a program as cheap as possible and as silent as possible so I can forget about it. This program serves the purpose and the price is reasonable. However, if you want to configure it to a more complex level, it seem to be quite a pain and it also hurts the processing speed.

I have had BitDefender 2008 and from the start it has been a problem. It causes slow down of my laptop and constant pop ups. I had gotten a virus on my computer and done a deep scan that showed there were no threats. My laptop was experiencing several problems from the virus. I spent 3 1/2 hours going through files hard drive etc. and located the virus and date it was installed. Contacted BitDefender to get help removing it. ABSOLUTELY received no help. ended up researching the virus on-line and getting different remedies to try from others on line that had dealt with this same virus and managed to finally get it removed. My daughter also had BitDefender and someone was able to block her firewall and get her password and sent out scam e-mails from her computer. She worked with BitDefender tech support and they had her uninstall 2008 and install 2010. She had the same problems with 2008 as I did and 2010 is no better. Her computer was slow, would freeze up and take forever to boot up. From experience with 2008 and 2010 I would recommend finding a different security software. Not worth the headaches and from our experience didn't do very well in keeping our computers safe. We had gotten BitDefender after extensive research and reviewing write-ups by various professionals. I like another reviewer, do not see how it can be so highly rated as it causes slow downs,there are always security issues that when you do the "fix button" it does nothing. Would never use BitDefender again
