1.0 out of 5 stars Resource Hog
I have a good system running Vista with a 3g processor and 1g ram. When I installed Bitdefender(the Vista compatible version) my system slowed to a crawl. Windows mail (Vista version of Outlook Express) would open but not run. Web pages would take over 5 minutes to load, if at all. Total resource hog.

This review is from: Bitdefender Internet Security Suite 10.0 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I have used many brands of security software. For years I had Norton IS. It was expensive and intrusive to productivity, but it let me protect both my computers for a year each and only stopped the virus updates when the license ran out. Last year they got greedy. They didn't honor a $65 rebate because it was late in the mail (I bought another product as well as an upgrade). Then the latest version started shutting down the protection entirely for all computers after the first computer reached one year. I decided to look around.

A friend recommended System Mechanic Pro, which had Kaspersky security. What a pig that one was! It was constantly popping up in the middle of my work to ask me what it should do. It wouldn't let me boot the computer without running a long Diskcheck -- right when I was in a hurry to get the computer up and finish some work by a deadline. The interface was complicated. My friend said it had SPAM protection, but I never could find it on the program. I said this won't do.

Enter Bitdefender, which sounded good after I read several reviews. I liked the fair price for protecting two computers for 2 years (and they had a nice rebate that reduced it further). I've now been using it several weeks and have found it to be simple to use, not time-consuming and non-interruptive. It does virus scans at 2 in the AM, but even when I've been up to work at 4am (yes, it sometimes happens) it doesn't stop me from working while it's running.

Putting "friends" on the ANTISPAM list is much simpler & faster than Norton. However what really thrills me is that it somehow has gotten rid of a nasty problem that I had during the use of both previous products: Someone was using my domain to PHISH and I was having 30-50 of them returned to me daily. I had set the Netscape filters to weed them out, but it was still annoying. Since installing Bitdefender I have not received one of these returned PHISH letters. It appears that the PHISHING was happening because my computer had become a conduit for a hacker. Neither of the previous products caught this, despite their constant thrashing about on my hard drive and popping up windows.

This product runs quietly in the background, only popping up occasionally to ask if it should allow a new program to contact the web. Once I've approved the contact, I hear no more about it.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very user friendly Internet Security Solution, July 26, 2007
This review is from: Bitdefender Internet Security Suite 10.0 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
Hello All
I did almost a month of research before jumping into this Internet solution. I was still a bit doubtfull even when I was providing my CC details while buying this product from Amazon. Because my experience with my previous Internet Security suite (N**) was very painful to say the least.
My mind was thinking now here is a product that I am buying which has no MIRs , no big promises. Why am I doing this? But now that I have bought at FULL price I can safely list out the pros... ( as I have not found any CONs till now):
1. Bit Defender has made its IS Suite sooo.. user friendly that even my parents can handle it with peace of mind. And as I work in software , I can certify my parents as "not so tech savvy".
2. For a price of around 52$ that I paid for a subcription of 2 years for two PCs/Laptops makes me happy that I am securing two computers for two years for less than 2$ a month. This no one can and I assert no other Internet security software can even match ( even with (3 users deal from N***).
3. The unique B-HAVE logic of this BF IS Software is really cool. And the best part of this is that it does not go and eat up a lot of processeing memory(RAM).
4. And lastly this software is very quiet while working and do not disturb any of the processes the way a LiveUpdate from N*** does.

So now I have opened my guts out, it is upto you guys to decide when you will reach for your wallets while buying a IS Suite. And do let me know if this review helped you.

Thanks
Indranil

5.0 out of 5 stars BitDefender Review, May 8, 2007
This review is from: Bitdefender Internet Security Suite 10.0 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
Excellent antivirus. Before I purchased one, I did research to find the best rated antivirus of 2006. I've been using McAfee, and have grown SICK of it. It never fully completes the virus scan, and allow many trojans, worms, and viruses to sneak in. It's also almost impossible to GET IT OFF THE COMPUTER (out of the registry). BitDefender has many many excellent options. It also scans the entire computer within a reasonable amount of time, services the comp. for two years, legally allows you to use it for 2 years, allows to you to scan comp., with an option that will shut the comp. down when it finishes-- I especially like that. I'm very skeptical at anything I put on my computer, but BitDefender seems to live up to its ratings in excellence.

I have been testing this antivirus during two months and i definitely recommend it. Sometimes i have had some problems with my network connection after the antivirus is updated, but i disconnect and connect the network card and the problem is fixed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product, some wierdness, August 31, 2007

This review is from: Bitdefender Internet Security Suite 10.0 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I bought Bitdefender because I hate McAfee (which I have on my work laptop and which is constantly installing updates and which has the most incomprehensible UI I've ever seen... and I'm a software engineer) and don't like Norton much. But mostly because I had Zone Labs Internet Security Suite on my Vista laptop and it would freeze up the computer for up to 5 minutes at a time and prevent VNC from working. The Zone Labs e-mail support team basically told me in broken English to reinstall the product. So I UNinstalled it and put on BitDefender. Ha.

BitDefender installed flawlessly and does not seem to slow the machine down at all. I had trouble with the parental controls not working and contacted support through e-mail and their suggestions in broken English were useless too, but then after some time things started working... wierd. Automatic updates are wonderful. Now, the UI is popping up randomly and sometimes only PARTS of the UI is starting up... again wierd. I'm hoping another silent update will magically take care of that issue. At least it's not freezing up the machine and I FEEL safe, even though I have no proof that I am besides the fact that I don't have problems with viruses or anything like that. No viruses must mean it's working, right? :)

Besides I got licenses for 2 PCs for 2 years for the price of one. I think. And I LIKE that. All in all I'm much happier with BitDefender than I was with Nortoon, McAwful and ESPECIALLY Zoned Out Labs. I mean really, I was a loyal customer of the Zone Alarm free firewall for years and THIS is how they thank me for all those years of non-patronage? Seriously, the Zone Labs Internet Security Suite product is terribly flawed, especially on Vista. Avoid at all costs. I should go write a bad review for it right now.

BitDefender is a great product, runs unobtrusively and apparently has one of the best virus scanners around. I recommend it.

I purchased this product along with BitDefender Anti-Virus v10. However, I have not used this product as I have another very powerful internet security program which I am very happy with. Prior to purchasing this product, I read the consumer reviews by others and I ended up purchasing this particular product as there were so many satisfied customers using BitDefenders software. I gave it 1 star ONLY because I have not been able to use it as it is not compatible with my other internet security software. So you be the judge!
