Disappointed,

This review is from: Bite (Paperback)
With the description and reviews already posted, it's become obvious that I was expecting a little more from my first Sean Michael book. I was incredibly disappointed.
The characters are very one-dimensional. They have no background, few deep thoughts, and next to no evident personality. I couldn't bring myself to invest emotionally in them, because I was given so little to know them by. They have no history or family aside from one sentence about no-name friends as a bar and another sentence about never-named siblings across the country. The only feature I can remember about Anton, one of the main characters, is that he growls constantly--and I only finished the book two hours ago! There was a plot--kind of. In between lots of sex, little blipits are thrown out. Very brief, with no explanation and little detail. The main villain left me with a big question mark. It's understood that's he's trying to kill everyone, and there's a little bit of why too. But overall he seemed thrown in, an extra thought with little detail. (Because the last page explicitly mentions a sequel, I'm going to assume there's more of an explanation. But as the main conflict of an entire novel, I expect more than "Look for the sequel!") It's the same with the villain's crony on the inside. Very see through, obvious, and not in the least suspenseful. I'm not saying this was a terrible novel, because it's not. It simply wasn't what I was looking for or anticipating. If you want non-stop, amazing, graphic sex then look no farther. As an author, Michael has done a great job getting those scenes on paper. The images are mind blowing. But don't expect much of anything else. Honestly, this seems more like a very rough draft than something in-print. A great rough draft, but a draft none-the-less.

M/M erotica could not get hotter than this!,
By
This review is from: Bite (Paperback)
I am a Sean Michael's fan so naturally I enjoy this sizzling paranormal M/M romance erotica. Anton is one sexy alpha werewolf. He finds his mate in Greg, his newly employed cook with tatoos. Pages of hot and lustful sex with growls and bites follow. Sometimes when there is too much sex it could get repetitive or boring. But not Bite because Sean just writes the sex scenes so well, supplementing them with humour as our ever hungry werewolf chases after his stubborn and independent cook.
The plot gets serious midway as their domestic bliss is interrupted by an unseen enemy all out to destroy Anton. Greg is ofcourse the target as he is Anton's most precious possession. The last few parts are suspenseful and the ending perfect for this first volume in a hot series. And I do love one playful but heartwarming scene towards the end which I thought is most original in a werewolf story. And of course all those food!

Bite,
This review is from: Bite (Paperback)
Rich, grumpy Anton has not been able to keep a chef, until Greg shows up. He's surprised at Greg's appearance--tattoos, bleached hair, goatee--and his skill in the kitchen. He quickly finds himself attracted to Greg, but will Greg want him when he discovers Anton's secret?
Greg comes to Anton's home expecting only to work, not end up sleeping with the boss. Still, he can't seem to get enough of Anton. Then strange things start happening, and he begins to wonder if there's someone out there that doesn't want him to be with Anton... In typical Sean Michael fashion, Bite is an incredibly hot book. Anton is brooding, dominating, possessive, and unhappy about his werewolf status. Sometimes stubborn and other times submissive, Greg is a good match for him. Their relationship progressed quickly, but somehow the speed was believable. The sex scenes are very, very hot. There was an interesting suspense angle as well, with the person who was stalking Greg. Overall, Bite is a really good read. I do have to add a couple of disclaimers to this review, however. If you don't like violence, steer clear. Secondly, don't expect this one to be tied up with a bow at the end. I'll certainly be reading the sequel when it comes out later this year! Cassie reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

This is erotica, not emotional romance,
By
This review is from: Bite (Paperback)
Warning: This review might contain what some people consider SPOILERS.
Rating: 7/10 PROS: - The sex is hot. Graphic, rough (but not overly so), intense. Pervasive. (see cons below also) - I liked the characters. However, I've read the book twice now; I first read it about 6 months ago and decided to read it again before writing a review, and I don't remember liking the characters as much the first time I read it as I do now, after the second. (I'm also about halfway through the sequel, Bitten, which is contributing to my affection for the characters as well, I'm sure.) - Gradual progression of the main characters' relationship. There's no "love at first sight" stuff here; they're attracted to each other physically, then they spend a while honing the ability to push each other's sexual buttons, and eventually the sexual possessiveness turns into emotional possessiveness, which then turns into love. - Good description of wolves' thoughts and instincts. Each author tends to treat his/her characters' thoughts differently when the characters are in wolf form. J.L. Langley's Without Reservations shows one character whose thoughts are no different when he's in wolf form than when he's in human form, whereas Rowan McBride's Lone depicts a man whose wolf form's thoughts are single-minded and simplistic. The wolf thoughts in Bite are somewhere between those two extremes. CONS: - So much sex that there's very little plot. VERY little. The first really suspenseful, intriguing moment of the book occurs on page 100 (up to then, it's 80% sex and 20% cooking and talking), and then the next mention of the conflict doesn't occur until page 170. What little plot the book has is described so sparsely that the story's potentially suspenseful moments are over so quickly I couldn't get wound up about them at all. - The sex gets monotonous. I can hardly blame Michael for this, though, because there is, quite literally, a sex scene (or two, or three) in every chapter save maybe two. This is THE most sex-filled erotic romance I've read. And on top of the sheer pervasiveness of sex, the characters use the same position and the same dialog over and over again. - The possessiveness of the characters got old. I've come to accept the use of the word "mine" at some point in most m/m romances, though I've never felt the urge to say that to anyone myself. But it must occur 50 times in this book. And that's probably a conservative estimate. Overall comments: If you're looking for graphic erotica, this is a good choice. If you want a plot (at all) and/or deep, wrenching emotional connection between the two main characters, you should look elsewhere.

This is my first read for gay erotica, and I have to say I made a great choice. I loved it so much I read more of Mr.Michael's Work, And I hope that he plans to finish this story. A great ready for anyone who wants an Alpha male showing him who's boss.

All I got out of this book was:
- Mine! Mine! (from Anton regarding Greg). - Anton has an unfetered desire for meat. - He does everything he can to distract his chef. - What kind of business does Anton have that makes him wealthy (some kind of background would be appreciated)? Even with all my dissatisfaction, I found myself buying the sequel "Bitten." Probably because they left the book with the kidnapping of the endearing household servent. I must have been brain dead that day to think the sequel would be any better.

When Peter is hired to be the personal chef of rich Anton, he gets more than he bargained for. Anton is not only incredibly sexy and irresistible, but he's also totally turned on and smitten by Peter. With sexual innuendo at first, they soon take it to the bedroom, where the sex turns out to be wild, passionate, and a bit painful too. It seems like Anton likes to bite. A lot. It must be a werewolf thing.
There's a very nice story in this book. The reader finds out long before Peter does that Anton is a werewolf, the clues are all there. At some points, you think Peter must be getting an idea, but he's pretty clueless and has trouble believing it even when Anton shows him by shifting into a wolf. I say there's a very nice story in here, the only problem is that you have to dig a little for it. The eroticism overshadows what alone could be a very compelling and gripping tale. When there are suspense and action scenes, the writer shows he is capable of handling them. He also does a very nice job with dialog and plot (with a minor weakness). But the book is about 80% erotic encounters. The writer's skill with the plot and characters is good enough that you wish there was less of a focus on sex and more of a focus on the story itself. After about halfway through the book, I found myself skimming past the sex parts to get to the next plot advancement. The only minor weakness in the dialog is a tendency that pops up where the writer uses single words as complete sentences too frequently. It's a decent tale though that does have a lot of strong points to it. Yes, there are weaknesses in some dialog and the too-strong focus on sex, but there really is a nice story in the book.

BITE is an brilliant story of a wealthy and refined city werewolf who hires Greg to be his chef. From the moment they meet there is a strong attraction between them and love grows at an rapid pace. The lovemaking is intense, and the plot is gripping, but at the same time, there are some tender momemts that pull at your emotions. As usual, Sean Michael delivers a well written, sensual saga that will have you drooling over the very sexy Anton (the alpha) and his lover Greg. HOT HOT HOT !!!!
