Book Description

Do you like the traditional, blood-sucking, dangerous type of vampire? Then this story collection is for you.

Ten authors have created creepy, chilling, funny, thought-provoking and scary stories about dark suckers.

Are vampires to be pitied for their vulnerabilities, or envied for their powers? How do we know who is a vampire? How do we know what vampires want from us? What if they are expressions of our own forbidden desires?

What if the victims give their blood willingly, in return for a boon? What if they drain from their victims not blood, but something more precious - their courage, their faith, their ability to love?

Is what they offer a fair exchange for what they take? Do you yearn for thrills, for immortality, for everlasting youth? Would you be willing to pay for this with your blood, your life, your soul?

Ten authors probe these questions in their tales. Each story in this book explores a different concept of vampires, a different question, a different danger. To reflect the authors' individual voices, you will find both American and British words and spellings in this book.

See which story resonates most with you. Enjoy the tales - but be warned: these vampires are dangerous.

Sometimes it's safer to leave history's secrets alone.
2. REALITY BITES! by Jim Bernheimer

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous vamp selection! March 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved this anthology. The authors are extremely talented, and the stories were all different and engaging. My favorites? Tangled Dreams by Liv Rancourt (who doesn't love a music geek?? I actually learned a lot from this one!), Night Train by Rayne Hall, and Exile by April Grey. But really, they were all vastly entertaining, and infinitely spooky!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bring On The Vamps February 23, 2012
By mmefran
Format:Kindle Edition
As a huge fan of vampire fiction, it was with great pleasure that I devoured this anthology of vampire short stories. Each tale is well written and unique. The excellent world building in two stories -- "Tangled Dreams" (choir geeks - great concept) by Liv Rancourt and "The Dhampir's Kiss" by Carole Ann Moleti -- made me wish they were novels. I wanted to know what would happen next in their respective worlds. My absolute favorite of the ten is "The Land of the Rising Sun," by Debbie Christiana, a story so haunting and clever I read it again and again. The humorous "Reality Bites" by Jim Bernheimer, and the suspenseful "Night Train" by Rayne Hall hooked me as well. In truth: all ten stories are great reads. I highly recommend this anthology.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Entertaining October 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Bites is ten different stories written by ten different authors. Each author has taken their own individual views on vampires and created this fun and entertaining anothology.

First up:

Tangled Dreams
by Liv Rancourt
(mysterious)

Choir chick, Allie, meets a mysterious and very handsome man, Roderick, after choir practice one night and after an amusing conversation about the choice of music, the pair agree to a dinner date. Allie's sister Renee imposes herself on their date and so it is that the three go to dinner. Dinner is bizarre, to say the least. After excusing herself to the ladies room, Allie returns to the table to find that both her sister and Roderick are gone. Several hours late, with the help of a waiter from the restaraunt, Allie locates her sister. Renee is sitting on a bench with a blank star, mumbling. What did Roderick do to Renee to leave her walking like a zombie? That is the question...

Reality Bites
by Jim Bernheimer
(fun)

Reality Bites is a fun read. Mr. Merrill is now a member of the undead and he wants his life insurance money. Unfortunately, Fundamental Insurance doesn't recognize vampires as being actually dead, since they haven't officially experience death.

Night Train
by Rayne Hall
(macabre)

Shelley, having just been touring Switzerland, decides to board a train and move on to less rain laden territories. The train is crowded and Shelley has a difficult time finding a sleeping car to occupy for the trip. Once finding a car to sleep in, she settles in for the night. Moments later, the conductor comes around to collect tickets. A polite man, he offers a friendly warning to Shelley about robbers and...vampires.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creepy, Scary, Sexy, and Mysterious Vamps April 23, 2012
By Janice
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Have you missed classic vampires? Have you ever fantasized about what would happen to a sparkly-teenage-immortal if he were to bump into real vampire? If so, this collection of vampire stories is for you. Oh my, how I have missed vampires!

This is a collection of ten stories by ten different authors, each with a distinctive approach to traditional vampires. These are fast-paced action stories that capture your full attention and imagination. Creepy, scary, sexy, and mysterious stories that will make you think twice about going to party in the cemetery (read "It's In Your Blood").

I love inexpensive Kindle books! My one complaint about this book is that the table of contents isn't clickable so I wasn't able to skip around in my normal fashion. However, at $0.99, it's a steal! Highly recommended read for lovers of classic vampire stories.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Mouthfull . . . of Fangs! March 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Is Bites - Ten Tales of Vampires just more stories of teenage romance meets Edward Cullen? Not so much. In fact, not at all. In these ten slightly creepy tales there's a little something for everyone who likes fangs and not sparkle.

The first story, Tangled Dreams almost reads like chick lit plus a vampire and a couple other mythical beings. It begins like this:

"I am an unapologetic choir geek. That's probably not the sexiest thing you can imagine, but it usually doesn't get me into trouble. Except for the one time that it did. Trouble that really hurt. Trouble that hasn't completely gone away."

The only trouble with the first story was I wouldn't have minded it expanded out into novel length with more action from the "M'lady" dude. That's not a bad thing in my book.

My other favorite in this batch include Winter Flower featuring Antoine the never aging waiter with kind of a Victorian vibe. Cecily adores him, wait she doesn't, wait . . . what's he doing with Lady Milligan?

I quite enjoyed that all these shorts had rather original twists. But I wouldn't recommend these stories for children as some of the content is rated PG-13 and up. Just saying. The story In the Dhampir's Kiss contains vampire rape and the story Exile has a few short scenes with a vampire gigolo.

On a scare factor, I would say most of these tales not above a scare factor of three on a scale of one to five. But there's a strange creepiness about them all that just . . . lingers.

Would I/Did I buy it? Free Download
Would I read it again? Two of the tales I would
Would I recommend it to friends? Yes, if they like vampires that bite

Most of the stories had little twists that kept you on your toes. Some of the stories were a little slow to get to the point. All in all, the book was a good read.
