3.0 out of 5 stars Very Short Intro to the Bitten series September 2, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I downloaded this free book thinking I was getting the first in a series entitled, "Bitten;" however, it is not Book One (as advertised) but more of a couple of chapters to a full length story. A straight forward description would help since it left me feeling cheated with the hurried pace and forced ending.

This story started off with great promise as we are introduced to Ally, a confident young woman (25) who is looking forward to celebrating Halloween as a newly single girl. She finds herself attracted to a mysterious male at the club she attends with her two best friends. I found Ally to be interesting but was not feeling the love between the three friends. Ally spent more time complaining about them then bonding. Also, the eternal love felt by Ally and Ben was too quick and unbelievable, especially for Ally who didn't miss a single beat after breaking up with a boyfriend of 8 months. Perhaps this brief sample didn't allow for any other option but it felt too hurried to be a good story.

Will I read the Bitten Series? I might give it a try if the price was right and the author fulfilled the promising first chapters. There were several interesting threads - did Ally know Ben prior to this night? or how does transformation take place? Just please stop telling us how vampire marriages are like being married to a sibling! E[...]

1.0 out of 5 stars It was free, so I didn't waste any money... September 6, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
But I sure as heck wasted my time. I've been burning through free books like it's nobody's business, and my expectations generally aren't very high. This was a terrible book. The writing style was jumpy, lots of typos, verb confusion, misused phrases, and colloquialisms that didn't parse well. This happens a lot in kindle free books, and I've grown to accept it. Most of the time, the story, characters, or the voice of the author outweighs these problems (case in point: Amanda Hocking), but in this case, the story is boring, the character is not compelling, and the author's writing style is just obnoxious. This was a short book, and I still couldn't force myself through it.

2.0 out of 5 stars This was a flop... September 3, 2011

Got this book a couple nights ago as a "Freebie" and should have known from the lack of comments that I shouldnt have gotten it but the info on the book itself grabbed my attention. I was dissappointed to find that after reading through the hurried chapters that it came up short (after not even 10 chapters) and just stopped with THE END in the middle of a situation that left you interested in what was going to happen. The story was taking a weird turn with talking bats and Ben and Ally's instant love after just meeting at the bar and her accepting his explaination that she would now be his wife/life mate but I was still interested just because I had already started to read it and had gotten into it. I would have liked to have been told by either the post from Pixel of Ink or Amazon that this "free book" was only a teaser..

1.0 out of 5 stars Agree with other reviewers... Pitiful! March 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There is no excuse for this kind of shoddy work. It's ridiculous for an "author" to expect others to respect and care about their work when they themselves don't care enough to read through it even once after writing it.

Proofreading/editing is a process that exists for a reason. How can readers enjoy a story when they constantly have to double-take and lose focus? This book is so full of mistakes, I passed it on to my 9 year old son as proofreading practice for the upcoming standardized tests. That's how elementary and pitiful the errors are - a 9 year old child can correct them.

The difference between "then" and "than", the use of "worst" every time the writer meant "worse", frequently repeating words or leaving them out, dozens of unnecessary commas; this "book" is a collection of all the basic problems we learn how to fix by 3rd grade graduation.

Even without the hundreds of mistakes, this story isn't worth the time it takes to download it, much less read it. It's basically just a prologue for the next book (which doesn't get any better). It's completely unbelievable. There's no way to identify with the characters because they're so shallow and inconsistent.

I'm trying to think of one good aspect of this story to justify that 1 star we're forced to give... Sadly, I can't.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very poorly written January 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am forcing myself to keep reading because I never quit a book once I've started it. Author would definitely benefit from an editor or another lesson in grammar (especially verb tense). Interesting plot, but it jumps around so sporadically that it's almost impossible to follow. Don't bother with this one!

I'm going to guess that the author is still in her teens, judging by the writing style and the inexperienced perspective. The main character is a completely self-centered, annoying brat. Spelling is actually ok, but the grammar is horrible, switching tenses several times within a single sentence, and the story itself is disorganized and poorly-paced.

A sample: "Here she was obsessively stalking his man, gaping at his buttocks and lean thighs, and yet she was not even concern about her safety or how he will feel or react once he realize that she have followed him from Flambé."

My advice to the author: Take a creative writing course and learn how to tell a story more smoothly, and GET AN EDITOR to help clean up the grammar!

2.0 out of 5 stars short but interesting idea
The book ended abruptly so that you would buy a sequel. This is not a book, just a really short story.
