Be ahead of the curve and catch Chamberlin, Vermont's great new band, now. Songwriters Ethan West (lyrics) and Mark Daly (melodies) have combined to create a memorable album from beginning to end. These songs were written in a cabin in tiny Goshen, Vermont and found their way to Scott Tournet, lead guitarist for Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, who was so impressed he volunteered to produce Chamberlin's first CD. Highlights include the soaring "Fools" at the start that leads to the dramatic "Dust'. A rich variety of music follows, including the spacy funk of "Paper Crown", a favorite at live performances, and the beautifully rendered "Turn Around", the wailing "Bitter Blood" and the mostly a cappella "Sixty Days" ending. Lead vocalist Daly's voice soars and the harmonies are ethereal. The band plays with a joy and precision that sounds years in the making. This is an album that must be heard as a whole, a masterful complete piece. Time Out Chicago wrote, "Chamberlin plays a kind of wistful late-night Americana that could only come from a place where you can see the stars at night, clear as day."

Chamberlin formed in the summer of 2010 and wrote and rehearsed in their mountain cabin before heading to a studio in Burlington. The songs of Ethan West (lyrics) and Mark Daly (melodies) found their way to Scott Tournet, lead guitarist for Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, and he was so taken with the music he volunteered to produce Chamberlin's first album. This is great new Americana featuring soaring vocals and great musicianship by guitarists West and Daly, supported by keyboardist Eric Maier, bassist Charlie Whistler and drummer Jamie Heintz. "Turn Around" is arguably one of the finest songs written in 2010. The band can play in a wide range, from the space funk of "Paper Crown" to the lovely harmonies of the mostly a cappella "Sixty Days". Get this album now so you can say you were there at the beginning.

I picked this album up because I'm soon to see them as part of a festival and wanted to educate myself. Plus they're local boys, so. Good stuff, and about what I was hoping it would be. The song "Dust" is the single I think, and rightly so. Catchy track that's easy to like. Other strong tracks are "Paper Crown" and the title song. But it's all good.

They've been touring alot with Grace Potter & The Nocturnals. GPN's guitarist produced also. I look forward to seeing Chamberlin and Grace live.

Any fans of My Morning Jacket or Kings Of Leon should dig Bitter Blood.
