Book Description

For years, the human and vampire residents of Morganville, Texas, have managed to co-exist in peace. But now that the threat to the vampires has been defeated, the human residents are learning that the gravest danger they face is the enemy within…

Thanks to the eradication of the parasitic creatures known as the draug, the vampires of Morganville have been freed of their usual constraints. With the vampires indulging their every whim, the town’s human population is determined to hold on to their lives by taking up arms. But college student Claire Danvers isn’t about to take sides, considering she has ties to both the humans and the vampires.

To make matters worse, a television show comes to Morganville looking for ghosts, just as vampire and human politics collide. Now, Claire and her friends have to figure out how to keep the peace without ending up on the nightly news…or worse.

3.0 out of 5 stars The most Meh of the Meh so far December 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really, really wanted to like this book because I love the series, but the best I could do was "meh."

It seems like more and more authors who write series, or multiple books set in the same world, don't bother with the whole stand alone story anymore. If I wasn't familiar with Morganville, or who Claire, Shane, Michael and Eve were, I'd be so lost that the vampires would get me. But that aside, this story itself didn't really do anything. There was no point to it. It's like that filler episode every TV show has where they just play the "Best-Of-Clips" to fill the 45+ minutes and then tack on a five second revelation at the very end to make the audience feel like the hour they wasted wasn't for nothing.

Naomi is the main villain and...she's not much of one. If the book prior to this would have been a TV episode, it would have had a "TO BE CONTINUED" at the very end because...dun dun dun...It picked up with this book. The Draug are dead, and the vampires are back in charge and they have nothing to be afraid of.

So life is back to normal, everyone's still pissed at the vampires for being vampires, and the vampires are putting on their big boy/girl britches and flexing their muscles because the Founder is flexing hers. So? How is that different from book one? Have the vampires learned NOTHING? Have the humans learned NOTHING? "We vampire, you human. We better. RAWR." And so on and so forth. Claire is still in the middle, Shane is still angry, Michael and Eve are still M&E Co. So? The vamps hate the human/vampire union so there are threats. So? Why? What are they really doing to stir the waters? We don't really get an explanation.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Pretty Good Book in the Series November 14, 2012
By LadyB
Format:Kindle Edition
After the beauty of the last book in the series, I had worries that things may drift back to when I almost left the series. I was wrong to be worried. It wasn't near as good as the last one, but it is worth reading.

Claire was great in this story. She was, by far, my favorite in this story.

Shane lost me in this one. At the end of the last story, I FINALLY thought he was worthy of Claire. Boy, I was wrong. I don't think after this book that I will ever fully believe that Shane is good or worthy for Claire.

Oliver - Wow. I like him more and more every book. He is SO complex. I just adore his character.

Michael & Eve - After feeling like their community issues were ignored for too long in the series at the end of the last book, I found myself changing my mind after this book. Ms. Caine made it believable and concerning.

All in all - Good Book in the Series. Ready for more? You betcha!

4.0 out of 5 stars Bitter Blood November 24, 2012
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
First Observation: I absolutely adore Myrnin. Whew, glad to get that off my chest.

Second Observation: The Morganville Vampire series just does not get stale. Just when you think there is nowhere left to go, Rachel Caine takes us in new directions that seem utterly hopeless. This time, things are rocky from the start, with Amelie and Oliver as a couple (ewwww), determined to keep the human population in its place. That's bad enough, but the humans are starting to rebel, causing enemies to become friends and making targets of our four heroes, especially now that Eve and Michael have committed the ultimate sin--a human has married a vampire. Trying to walk the middle ground becomes next to impossible, and our beloved Myrnin sees the writing on the wall and decides to leave Morganville. Or does he? And what the heck are all these feelings going around? It's a tangled mess fueled by the undead undead Naomi, determined to bring her sister Amelie down however possible.

I love that the relationships between Shane and Claire, Eve and Michael, and Claire and Myrnin have continued to grow realistically, even if Shane does need a smack upside the head on occasion. There are some surprising connections made throughout the book, but nothing is out of character except what is being forced by the vamps in charge. The points of view continue to shift among the main characters, giving us good insight into their mindsets, and needless to say, I adored whenever Myrnin took his turn at describing his dire circumstances. Loved the conflicts, both inner and between the characters; loved that Claire has a backbone and knows what she wants. I'm going to be on edge waiting for the next installment to find out where she ends up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bitter Blood November 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Rachel Caine did it again. Just finished reading Bitter Blood. To tell you the truth I really wasn't sure how this series could keep going and stay interesting. How many more mishaps or battles could Rachel Caine come up for Claire and her group. I was actually pleasantly surprised. This was an amazing book.

So much happened. Bitter Blood still had everything that made me love the Morganville Vampire series, including lots of action, loss, love, and betrayals. So many twists and turns that it was not only fast paced but kept you on your toes and at the edge of your seat. You just didn't know which way this was going to go.

As usual I loved Claire, Shane, Michael & Eve, and lets not forget Myrnin. Each of them went through their own personal demons, and betrayals. It was tense, upsetting, frustrating. I went through so many emotions, it was crazy. This book made it more real. Claire and the gang has gone through so much that even their strong bond is going to be tested and crack. Trust and love will also be tested. Rachel Caine really does an excellent job of showing the ups and downs of even the close relationships of Claire, Shane, Michael and Eve. We also get a little more knowledge and personality of Myrnin and Oliver.

Such a great series. I really have enjoyed this, and I seriously can't wait to find out what happens to the Glass House residents and how it will pan out in the future.
