This is a worthwhile text for academics and serious Holocaust students, but is likely to be of limited interest for readers who are looking for an easily digested, broad overview of the fate of Jews in the war years in what was previously the USSR. Examining antisemitism in Eastern Europe and how this translated into action by various ethnic groups following the German occupation, the series of articles paint a disturbing picture of a level of violence and cruelty that matched and - in many instances - even exceeded what was meted out by the Police Battalions and SS.
