5.0 out of 5 stars Their Best Album
I think this cd, Bitter Suites To Succubi is probably their best release yet. Maybe that is because this is the only lineup that's stayed in place from the previous album. But now that Robin's gone, they lose another member. Where's the group loyalty? Anyhow, everything here is awesome. The cover is a striking return to form, lyrics top-notch, great Dani Filth vocals...

I think this cd, Bitter Suites To Succubi is probably their best release yet. Maybe that is because this is the only lineup that's stayed in place from the previous album. But now that Robin's gone, they lose another member. Where's the group loyalty? Anyhow, everything here is awesome. The cover is a striking return to form, lyrics top-notch, great Dani Filth vocals beautifully complemented by the lovely Sarah Jezebel Deva, fantastic guitar. Best songs: All Hope In Eclipse, Born In A Burial Gown, Summer Dying Fast, No Time To Cry, The Principle of Evil Made Flesh, Suicide and Other Comforts, Black Goddess Rises II- so that's most of the tracks on the cd minus the two instrumentals. If you thought Cradle of Filth were dead, think again. You're mental if you miss the power of this. Sell-outs their not- jealousy from smaller, lesser bands is the word. Totally original and very creative. Remakes are pretty different from the originals so they're not really the same songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars What an ep should be, July 17, 2004
By
This review is from: Bitter Suites to Succubi (Audio CD)
No matter what type of record cradle of filth trys to do wether it be live, greatest hits,ep,lp they are always trying to make it the best they can. This is truly shown in the ep "Bitter Suites to Succubi" This album includes two new insturment, A cover song of sisters of mercy's "no time to cry" four brand new songs and amd three old cradle of filth songs re-recorded. I mean, why would I want to shell out 15 dollars for four songs and a remix? Cradle of filth always makes your purchase worth while. Now to change the subject a bit. I notice people saying in reviews of numerous cof products and also people I personally know. About how they used to enjoy cradle of filth but now a days don't enjoy it as much because they have found more trule BM. This has never happened to be because I really don't see cof as black metal, they have elements to them that are bm but are not true black metal. So enjoy there music for what it is. Now onto my thoughts of the tracks.

Sin deep my wicked angel -4.5/5 One of my all time favorite cof insturmentals.

All hope in eclipse - 4/5 A very good full length opener the guitar work is done well

Born in a burial gown - 4.5/5 A single and a good choice at that Martin has some good keyboard work here.

Summer dying fast - 5/5 An old song re-done from TPOEMF album very good.

No time to cry - 5/5 Sisters of mercy Cover, they did quite well with it I was impressed.

The principle of evil made flesh - 5/5 the re-done version, from the same album as the title of this song.In all the re-done versions the songs are less raw and alot more clear this is most noticable in this song

Suicide and other comforts - 50/5 My favorite cof song right here everything is magnificant and beautiful, this song brought me to tears the 1st time I heard it.

Dinner at deviant's palace - 3/5 eerie insturmental, has the father's pray I believe sung backwards.

The black goddess Rises 2 - 6/5 Another re-done song from TPOEMF album and the best one at that, I love how it goes from heavy to melodic and back to being heavy

Scorched earth erotica - 10/5 another single and my 2nd favorite from this album. The lyrics and keyboards are supurb.

So ends this review. I hope you found some help in it about this album, enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interim CD but it's still very enjoyable, September 9, 2003
This review is from: Bitter Suites to Succubi (Audio CD)
Black metal isn't my favorite subgenre of metal, but there's something about Cradle of Filth that keeps my interest. Maybe it's their flawless musical integration, or maybe it's Dani Filth's disturbingly poetic lyrics. But they kick bum, no matter how "commercialized" they've made the genre. Bitter Suites to Succubi does seem a little rushed, and has a good deal of sound contradiction in it, but overall, it's one of my more favored COF albums. "Black Goddess Rises II" is probably my favorite song, and the instrumental "Sin Deep My Wicked Angel" (I love using that phrase) is good as are most COF instrumental segues. "Suicide and Other Comforts" is one of the better songs as well. Basically, there aren't any really bad songs, but instead of taking all the negative criticism as definitive, I'd listen to some samples or maybe go to one of those music stores that lets you sample the CD before you buy it, and then make your final decision. That's what you should be doing anyway. But if you're truly a Filth fan, you will probably find it at least somewhat appealing to your darkside.

This is a mindblowing masterpiece by Cradle. Not necessarily an ep, just an interem release. Not a grand concept album, but one with an undercurrent theme that bleeds dangerously into my head whenever I listen to it. I think this album surpassed Midian in many ways, including the symphonics Martin Foul commanded here. This is Cradle at the top of their game, equally as good as Cruelty and Vempire, if not slightly better. A more updated Cradle, still blistering and heavy. Too bad Damnation was after this, they kinda went in a different direction. Best track on here, Suicide and other comforts. The most evolved COF song to date; an album they still have yet to top.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cradle of Filth are out to enslave., February 18, 2002

Reviewer Man (Miami, Florida USA) - See all my reviews

All I can say to this album would probably be summed up with "wow". Yet again Cradle of Filth have proved they are the baddest (and I mean that in a good way) band on earth. These guys make Marilyn Manson look like a Powerpuff girl.

With "Bitter Suites to Succubi" the boys from down under (and I don't mean Australia) have created another masterpiece, and I'm happy to say their quest to constantly explore new regions has not dwindled. They still have the melodic, evil, atmospheric sound that symbolizes death metal, but what sets them above the other bands of the genre is the fact that they have variety. Not all of their songs sound the same and it's not all mindless banging and shrieking.

If I were to pick one sonf to represent this CD it would have to be "All Hope in Eclipse", but that doesn't mean the others aren't all great as well. Their cover of Sisters of Mercy's "No Time to Cry" is gothic and beautiful.

All in all, Cradle of Filth are out to Enslave. Don't listen to these so called "fans" who are afraid of change. Cradle will leave them in the dust on their conquest of destruction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cradle of Filth still have what it takes, October 23, 2001
This review is from: Bitter Suites to Succubi (Audio CD)
Thematically, Cradle Of Filth seem to be going deeper and deeper into the lower depths. After the terrestrial vampires on their first couple of albums, they descended to Midian, and judging by the cover of their latest, they are going even deeper towards Satan's domain, if they haven't already.

Bitter Suites' opening instrumental, "Sin Deep My Wicked Angel" shows that COF hasn't lost their touch on haunting, operatic instrumentals.

The first vocal song, "All Hope Lost In Eclipse" not only has a catchy chorus, "All heil, all heil..." but with the heavy strings, is close to becoming something from Twilight Ophera.

Their cover of "No Time To Cry" is by far the closest to their being, and I hesitate to say these blasphemous words, radio friendly song. I wonder if I'll be in the innermost circle of Hell instead of Judas Iscariot for printing that into immortality. It's the best track here though, with the female vocals in the staccato chorus a nice touch.

Bitter Suites is also an opportunity for updating older tracks and rendering them to their current state of ferocity. "The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh", "Black Goddess", and "Summer Dying Fast" are from COF's debut on Cacophonous Records, titled the same as the former song. I must say this version of "Principle" is eons better than the original version.

"Suicide And Other Comforts" explores the forced loss of one's pagan goddess, the destruction of idols with the coming of monotheism, and compares that loss to that of a loved one. In the end, the protagonist slits his wrists to be united with his beloved goddess.

"Dinner At Deviant's Palace" is a conceptual track with thunder, bubbling, echoing and eerie voices, guttural utterings that sound like the Satanic reversal of proper English words, and wicked laughter.

Lady Sarah Jezebel Deva is still onboard, praise the Dark One. A Cradle of Filth album without her contribution would be like Gene Simmons without his tongue or Geri Halliwell without her wonderbra.

And what would a COF album be besides dark ominous women? Malaresia is the latest addition to the pantheon, as she is the central cover goddess.

Verdict: while this album lacks the ferocity of Cruelty And The Beast and Midian, it's closer in spirit to Dusk And Her Embrace, though without the classic loveliness of the latter. Anyone who wants to find out what COF is about might want to start with this album, then Dusk And Her Embrace before going full force with the harder stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Their comeback album!!!, July 11, 2001
By
Yohan Loud (Long Island, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bitter Suites to Succubi (Audio CD)
This album is way better than Midian and Cruelty. Three of the new songs sound awesome. Tracks 2,3, and 10 show how Cradle can expand on their sound. This lineup has finally got it together. The guitar parts are Death Metal heavy and the solos are dope. The drummer from At the Gates will never outdo Nick ( the ex drummer), but he has made much improvement here by realy hitting those drums; the drums finally got a punch to the sound to start a huge pit again. The keyboards have progressed to more of a real goth sound. Not like other goth/metal bands, but more of a sound similiar to Switchblade Symphony, Sisters of Mercy, 13 Candles, Heavy Water Factory, etc. The keyboards almost at times have a club sound to it too. Dani's vocals are good as usual especially the goth type vocals, but when he has the screaming parts he just puts too many lyrics in the songs, he should let the music breath. The remakes of the Principle, Summer Dying Fast, and Black goddess are awesome. The Principle and Summer versions are better than the originals, while the Black Goddess song takes a more of a romantic approach. Yo thats cool, but I prefer the Demo version on the Total Darkness Demo. I recommend cradle fans to check that demo out. It's more Black/Death and the riffs are awesome to mosh to. This is their new EP and it is a hundred times better than Midian. Midian didn't reflect their sound probably because of too many band member changes. They also put out an EP called "From Cradle to Enslave" in 1999. The first track on that album is one of the best songs they ever wrote. I hope this band finally makes it big here in the States because this album is awesome and they are touring right now, and have already about 10 classics that they can play live.

When I received Cradle of Filth's "Bitter Suites To Succubi album it hasn't left my cd player!! I have to say this album is really great by a great Black Metal Band!!! Not only does this album include 3 re-records of some of their songs from "The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh" album- which by the way is hard to find. Their the cd also includes a video of Born In A Burial Gown!! The lineup is still the same as it was in "Midian" album. The enchanting vocals of Sarah Jezebel Deva, great guitar playing my Adrian and haunting vocals by Dani!!!! Here is how i see the songs as they are:

1. Sin Deep My Wicked Angel- This is a great instrumental with wonderful Cello playing and seems to be Violin playing with soothing vocals just done right for this song.

2. All Hope In Eclipse- This is one of the Best songs on here. The vocals by Dani are amazing and the Complex guitar riffs of Adrian is spellbounding!!! The piano near the end brings you in like your about ready to die!!!!

3. Born In A Burial Gown- This song really sets the mood for a night of Romance and Embracing on to. This is my first song I heard from this album and its just wonderful!!!

4. Summer Dying Fast- Even though I don't have CoF's 1st album this is a really great song with Bat Screeching screams from Dani, to the low growl he does ever so nice!!! Don't forget the wonderful singing of The Deva herself...This song will leave you Breathless!!!!

5. No Time To Cry- A cover song by Sisters of Mercy, the screams by Dani, and great piano playin, not much to say about this song because I haven't heard any Sisters of Mercy songs by them and this song is ok....sorry to say that CoF Fans!!!

6. The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh- A great re-record of this song, the guitar playin, the drumming, the keyboards, I'm blown away!! This song is great!!!!

7. Sucicide And Other Comforts- WOW.... this song really touches me, it reminds me of lost love, and lost death all rolled into one. The pano, just everything is great about this song, it'll leave you speechless!!!

8. Dinner At Deviant's Palace- Another instrumental that left me spellbound once I heard its captivating sounds!!! The singing of Sarah Jezebel Deva is Great, the haunting sounds of a little boy it seems to sound like, and the climatic end of the Cello and Violin getting lounder with the laughter of a wonderous lady!!!

9. The Black Goddess Rises II- My personal favorite song on here, everything about this song is great, not to mention the most beautiful singing done by Sarah Jezebel Deva!!!!

10. Earth Scorched Erotica- To be this is the more Melodic song from the whole album, the guitar playin, drumming, keyboards, and everything is great!!!!!

Cradle Of Filth- Bitter Suites To Succubi...SIMPLY AMAZING!!!!

Martin Powell Really Rocks, so does the rest of CoF...Keep Up The Great Work!!!!! Now This Black Metal Band Really Has Talent!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Metal Genius, May 6, 2004

This review is from: Bitter Suites Succubi (Audio CD)
I just recently became a fan of Cradle, and this was the first CD that i acctually owned of thiers. From the demonic "sin deep my wicked anger" the first track you know this album will just blow your timid mind away. On to the explosive "all hope lies in ecplise" and all the way thru till the last track this album is absolute musical genious. I can understand how some people dont like this music but thats because they dont understand it. For the old man who listens to opera i suggest him to listen to the last minute of "summer dying fast" and still try to tell me that these guys arent talented.
