An Awesome CD,
By John (a place) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bitterness the Star (Audio CD)
36 Crazyfists is a very talented band that doesnt get half the attention they deserve. While bands like Slipknot and Korn tear up the charts, 36 Crazyfists is one of rocks best kept secrets, and its a shame. 36 Crazyfists in my opinion are sort of on the borderline between metal and nu-metal. They arent quite heavy or technical enough to really be classified as metal, but they are..well, too good to be classified as nu-metal, although by genre they could be.
THE GOOD: The first thing I noticed about this band was the vocalist. He has a very weird and unique singing voice. It takes an acquired taste, but once you get used to it youll love it. His vocals are very emotional and heartfelt which really drive the songs. The lyrics are also very good. The musicianship is good. They dont do anything mind blowing but they do enough to keep you interested. THE BAD: Well, the vocals may annoy some people. Like I said, they do take some getting used to, Brocks singing voice isnt much like youll hear anywhere else. Once you get used to it youll love it, but some people will put the CD down before they get used to it. Another problem : 36 Crazyfists is classifiable as nu-metal. This isnt a problem for me. Im pretty open minded, I listen to the bands I like and try not to pay too much attention to genres, but some people will hear that this is nu-metal and instantly discredit it, when it is really better than any nu-metal out there. Overall, this is a very good CD and I strongly recommend it no matter what genre of rock or metal you are into.

About time Roadrunner signed a good band..,
By Eliot (Tampa, Florida) - See all my reviews

I love 36 Crazyfists. Every song they create is full of emotion and intensity. The guest appearances on the album are a big plus as well, IE the lead singer of Nora(one of my favorite Hardcore bands) and the lead singer of Skinlab(another great band with a new record coming out soon). Turn The Ashes makes for a great opener, while songs like An Agreement Called Forever shows off the lead singers amazing voice. Meanwhile, songs like One More Word and Slit Wrist Theory show his ability to scream with the best of them as well. I recommend any fan of Poison The Well, GlassJAw, or From Autumn To Ashes(3 of my personal favorite bands) pick this cd up, you won't be dissapointed.

The Bitterness Within Us All,
By A Customer
This review is from: Bitterness the Star (Audio CD)
The Crazyfists are raw power. Their music is most definitely some of the best artwork among metal musicians today. The way they articulate their music is inspiring and at times rehabilitating. Music, for me anyway, is like a form of therapy. When I am all messed up about something, it is one of the only tools that can make me feel balanced and "whole" again. This album has done a lot for me in this field. It is one of those albums that expresses the emotions we as human beings feel, but like to just bury deep inside ourselves. The depth behind the lyrics, the violent raging out of passion revealed within this album has given me something I can relate to in my times of despair; keeping me sharp and determined to move forward as oppose to just giving up. Some of you reading this review probably have no idea what I am talking about, and that is fine. However, I'm sure some of you stand on the same side of the tracks as I. This is music that serves a higher purpose, not just for entertainment sake. 36 Crazyfists know what a powerful weapon music can be, and I am thankful for their talent. "A Snow Capped Romance" 3/16.... buy it.

The most amazing album I have ever heard.,
By Nick Walker (Ottawa, Ontario) - See all my reviews

Well it is almost here!!! The new 36 Crazyfists album, A Snow Capped Romance is due out early 2004, although there is some confusion over the actual release date, but MTV has it slotted for February 24th. I have heard the album through a close friend, and even if it never lives up to the 36's major label debut, it's an amazing sophmore record. Here is my review for Bitterness the Star. The guitar work, drumming, basslines and vocals all fit perfectly together to reveal a story on this album. You can sense the band's Alaskan roots as the boys pull together a worthy supersonic assault on your senses. Songs like Slit Wrist Theory and Two Months From a Year tear your heart from your chest as they explore the darker side of humanity and social aspects of life. An Agreement Called Forever is just an amazing song, followed in quick pursuit by the heavy eightminutesupsidedown. This is an amazing album. Two thumbs and ten stars. Out.

This band coming from Alaska, is awesome. This band is one of my favorite. The mix of Hard music and melody is simply beautiful. The guitar, drum and bass are very good. And the voice is undescriptible, no band have the vocal look like that. Buy it if you have the occasion, its a great band that need support just like many other band, but you will not regret it, im sure!Fav. Songs:

AK Represent,
By Gavin Berkey (Ketchikan, Alaska, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bitterness the Star (Audio CD)
I'm glad to see these guys have gotten so big. I only heard about them this year, and figured they were just big in Alaska, but reading these reviews it's clear they are fairly well-known all over. This makes sense of course, because 36Crazyfists is an awesome band, even if you hate metal and whatnot, like I do. There's something about them which makes them appealing, even if you despise bands which do nothing but scream, because there's just something more in this music than other hardcore bands. If you're gonna get one of their CDs though, get this one, not the new one, because I just picked it up yesterday and it's not NEARLY as good as Bitterness the Star. There's nothing that stands out on it, unlike the Slit Wrist Theory for this one. I've heard some good AK bands in the eighteen years I've spent all over this state, and it's nice to finally see that somebody made it big... I still wish it had been the Drunk Poets though. If anyone knows about them, you'll know what I mean.

A Must-Have,
By "shinto132000" (Louisville, KY) - See all my reviews

BITTERNESS THE STAR is an exhilirating experience from beginning to end. The band hails from Alaska, and you can hear it in the music itself. The guitar has a harsh, jagged sound to it that reflects the barren landscape of the bands origin.36's vocalist, Brock Lindow, has a unique quivering vocal delivery that may be a little off-putting at first, but after a moment you realize that it is just what the band needs to separate their sound from the others. The other thing that separates them are the songs themselves. They have an emo side to them that doesn't at all detract form the heaviness displayed on the majority of the album. In fact the softer melodies only reinforce the harshness of the songs. "Turns to Ashes", the album-opener is my favorite track off the album. There are several that come close, but "Ashes" is a the perfect opener, utilizing all their styles and sounds to make a perfect sing-along metal anthem. A must-have for all metal fans.

Alaskan Metal,

This disc is absolutely amazing! These guys play some heavy, heavy emotional music, in the realm of hardcore/metal, with a softer touch. 36CF is one of the best bands I've come across in awhile, where as I can't take this out of my cd player. These guys from Alaska ROCK! Brock has some amazing vocals, some may find his unconventional sound annoying but I find it captivating. Along with Steve who does some sweet axe work on the disc. There are some killer baselines on this cd as well and some professional pounding on the drums from Thomas, these guys just sound great together. "Turns to Ashes" is a great opener that'll introduce you to Brock's vocals. "One More Word" has some sweet guitar work on it, and who could ignore "Slit Wrist Theory" this song is amazing, one of my favorites. "Bury Me Where I Fall" is heavy stuff, probably the heaviest in my opinion, with guest vocals from Steev from Skinlab, how cool is that? "Chalk White" is also a stand out song along with "All I Am" so I guess the whole cd is extremely solid, and a fine piece of work from 36 Crazyfists who are in studio now recording a new album, I personally can't wait!

This band has been around for a while and I consider myself to be lucky that I heard them when I did. This CD has so many songs that I and many other people can relate to. Plus they have a sound that is new to the rock world. Their vocalist may not be able to scream like other metal vocalists but he has a very good and unique voice. And then they end their great CD with a slow sad song that im sure practically everyone can relate to. So if your looking for something good to listen to pick this one up.

a refreshing breath from the smother scene...,
By John webb (douglas wyoming) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bitterness the Star (Audio CD)
this album...while not the most complicated album of the year. is very emotional and heartfelt...in a word moving. it will bring a tear to your eye and rock your skull...very straightforeward and raw. i really liked some of the effects on the riffs. and even though the demo version of all i am was alot better. its still an awesome song. broks vocals are an aquired taste... but you can get used to it. if you like 36 crazyfists i promise you no vocals will ever sound bad to you again. not to say brock has a bad voice... its actually really good. just a little odd. he sounds like hes going to cry, and being shaken...how the hell does that guy hold a note? anyway. this is a great album. and this band hasnt even begun to tap into their full potential. its one of the last good albums roadrunner ever released. these guys are a little simialar to spineshank and glassjaw in a way on a different note... with some originality thrown in . |
