4.0 out of 5 stars Great companion work to "Sweet Ona Rose", April 28, 2000
This review is from: Bittersweet Valentines (Audio CD)
This ep showcases this Portland, Oregon singer/songwriters solo act. More sedate and acoustically oriented than his full length, it is still a gem. Check out "Sweet Ona Rose" for Pete backed by his band, the Gossamer Wings, with a fuller and more often upbeat tempo. His former bands Hazel and Golden Delicious are also great to check out if you like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pete rocks!, February 8, 2000
This review is from: Bittersweet Valentines (Audio CD)
If youve never seen Pete Krebs live, you are missing out on one of the most amazing live musical experiences you will ever have. To me, Pete is a more dynamic musician than the oft-compared-to Elliott Smith, with a down-to-earth friendly smile to warm your heart and ever-a funny quip to accompany the tunes. This CD highlights Pete's beautiful voice, particularly on "Powderkeg", and the last track. Such a sweet voice wrenches out my heart and makes me smile inside and out with its honesty and beauty. By far one of the top Pacific Northwest solo artists today. If you like this album, check out his first raw solo album, specifically, the songs "Suction Cup Hearts", and "Shytown". And never miss a show of his if he's in your town!

5.0 out of 5 stars Intimate songs with simple pleasures, August 11, 2008
This review is from: Bittersweet Valentines (Audio CD)
Pete Krebs writes and sings songs that you may think you've known all of your life. The songs on this little disc are such charming little ditties that they become a part of your own personal soundtrack in no time; helped no doubt by the intimate nature of the songs: simple acoustic rhythms, Mr. Krebs' intimate style of singing and beautiful (and occasionally playful) conspire to make it all seem simpler than it really is.

I haven't been able to find anything to criticise, I can play these songs when I'm working, driving, reading and they never fail to settle my heart and leave me a little better off than I was when they found me.

Not sure what's going on with the flutes and background noises on the untitled track 5. And the last song on the album ('Told You So') is nothing like the rest of the songs, with a full band sound, doubled vocals and harmonies and the only full drum kit recorded for the album. Nothing wrong with it of course, just different to the first four songs.

I challenge anyone to not sing along to the "ba ba baba" line in Powder Keg after a couple of listens... Bittersweet indeed.
