Endorsements:

"Simply put, author Dan Cooley's BIZARRE Bible Stories and BIZARRE Bible Stories 2 utilize a vernacular, contemporary writing style intended to reach an audience of children and youth with solid Christian doctrine and practical application. The discussion questions interspersed throughout the text are thoughtfully designed to promote interaction between parents and their children on numerous topics of interest. Cooley's books reflect his passion for providing spiritual food to children in a manner they can easily digest. His attention to detail is evident from cover to cover."

- Dr. Gene A. Getz. Author of over 50 books including The Measure of a Man, President of the Center for Church Renewal

"God is infinitely creative, and Dan Cooley is obviously paying attention. These freshly told tales will get your kids hooked on the Bible!"

- Melody Carlson, award-winning author of The Gold & Honey Bible and fifty-plus other bible storybooks and books for children.

“Paul urged Timothy: ‘you know those from whom you learned...’ These captivating biographies and stories will equip and encourage parents, youth pastors and others who want to ensure the enduring faith of youth in the church.”

- Daryl Busby, PhD. Dean of Canadian Baptist Seminary, Director of DMN Program, ACTS Seminaries, TWU

“Finally, a book that illuminates some of the coolest, oddest, and fantastical true stories of the Bible that, when read, young people can say, ‘Wow! God really wants me to be THAT radical? THAT powerful? THAT bold?’ Dan Cooley does this in the simplest and most profound way...he inspires students to read the stories in the Bible for themselves. Study it. Glean from it. And then go into the real world and live it.

Chad Barrett author of Journey to Freedom: The Pursuit of Authentic Fellowship Among Men, Director of Child Evangelism Fellowship, Houston area

“WOW! As a mother of two boys, I certainly see the need to ground our children spiritually. Dan's book is tool to help us as parents ground our children in the Word. Dan pulls you into the Scripture and gives you a glimpse of what it was like. He encourages you to dig in God’s Word and pull out God’s personal message to you. There is no greater blessing than bringing God's Word to life for our children!”

About the Author

Dan Cooley, senior pastor of Elim Chapel in Winnipeg, Canada, started telling bizarre Bible stories as a teen to young campers twenty-five years ago at Camp Peniel in Marble Falls, Texas. Dan's four children grew up listening to these same stories, and his desire to pass them to his grandchildren (okay-there aren't any yet, but one must think ahead. . . yes, even waaay ahead) brought them into print for parents, grandparents, and Sunday school teachers-anyone who wants to get kids into the Bible and the Bible into kids! The first bizarre Bible story Dan heard was "The Loud Army that Wasn't" during staff training at Camp Peniel in 1976. He was a camp counselor/director there for eight years and a children's and youth pastor for thirteen additional years. He has a BA in theology from Dallas Bible College and an MA in ministry from Moody Graduate School. He and his family love rappelling, mountain-bike riding, all things about The Princess Bride and VeggieTales, hot weather and hotter Mexican food-and chocolate. The Cooleys live in the central plains of Canada, where they can often be found sitting around the fireplace, eating chips and salsa while looking up more bizarre Bible stories in Scripture.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful book for the whole family March 31, 2004
Format:Paperback
This is a terrific book for the family to read together and explore the less well-known stories of the Bible. The author writes in an easy to read manner and gives suggestions for different ways to go through the book depending on your family style, time available, age of children, etc. A wonderful fresh way to do family devotions!

5.0 out of 5 stars This will get the family talking! January 29, 2004
Format:Paperback
This delightful and insightful book will certainly get the family talking, as they read these hidden Bible stories together. Dan Cooley draws the readers into the story, then midway, poses questions that hit home, making you want to discover the lessons and completion of the adventure. It's great to read little known parts of the Bible that reveal important lessons for us today. The writing flows along so naturally that you can't wait to read the next story. This is sure to help adults and young people of all ages get excited about the Bible and how it applies to our lives.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected. September 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this book in error. It was not what I expected. I thought it might be a humorous look at the Bible but it is in fact a book of religious instruction for younger readers. I guess I should have read the reviews before purchasing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't Judge this Disturbing Book by it's Cover September 8, 2012
A Kid's Review
Format:Kindle Edition
The book looked like a fun, light-hearted read: wrong.
I admit I didn't finish the book and probably won't--which is unusual for me.
It was creepy with undercurrents that had the potential to scare the crap out of a child . . . Old fairy tales were criticized for being too scary: this is "Hansel and Gretel" go to church?
It might be a helpful book for an adult leading Sunday School, but please don't hand this book to a child without reading it and making up your own mind.

I bought this book out of curiosity, and my mom has read the entire bible, but I just don't have enough time to do that. But she tells me all the different stories that go on in the bible. And when I saw this, I wanted it, so me and my mom could share stories, and then I'd know what she is talking about, and we can relate. I like this book, it's good for adults, and kids.

4.0 out of 5 stars A handy tool September 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
A handy tool to guide adults through the tasks associated with teaching Bible stories. With enough wiggle room to mold to different ages and intellects. A few errors, but overall fun and informative.

More About the Author

Mostly, I'm a story teller. I get to tell stories as a pastor and a dad, which is a terrific way to live. Writing is harder for me then speaking, as it's difficult for me to think with my mouth closed. Along with a beautiful wife and four terrific kids, I have a Jeep. People with Jeeps are more fun.

Family: I met my wife JoLynn in college and she has given me four wonderful children: Megan, and Amanda, Micah, and Caleb.

Education: I went to a bunch of schools (fun, but not too productive...) finally getting my life together and graduating from Criswell in Dallas and Moody Grad School in Chicago.

Personal Stuff: As a missionary kid, I've always known who Jesus was, but it wasn't until college that I really began to look at how He fit into my life. Discovering the answer has been a mysterious, exhilarating, long (and sometimes difficult) journey, but I could not imagine a life without Christ.

Outside of Church: I love eating, archery, rappelling, fixing cars (too often), spending time with friends (never enough) and raising my children. My favorite books include Mere Christianity, A Man Called Intrepid, and Blue Like Jazz. A few of my favorite movies are Napoleon Dynamite (ughhhhhhhhh), Princess Bride (Inconceivable!), Shadowlands, and Blues Brothers (We're on a mission from God!) You have to check out our church website www.CottonwoodChurch.com. Come see us when you are in NM!

Publishing History: I have a number of articles you can find by typing my name in at www.leadershipjournal.net. Bizarre Bible Stories is my only book to date. It became a finalist at The Word Guild Canadian Christian Writing Awards in 2005, which awarded me and future publishers cool little stickers to put on the covers. The publisher has asked for a new Bizarre Book, which you can sign up for by emailing me at dan@danielcooley.com. Lord willing it will be out by the end of 2012 - that is the target date.
