Editorial Reviews

On Golden Melodram 50070; 2 CD's; Rise Stevens owned Carmen during the 1950's, and here she is in her signature role, joined by the passionate Giuseppe Di Stefano, in fiery form. Lucine Amara and Robert Merrill are at their considerable best, while Max Rudolf leads a brisk performance!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Memorable Recording of Carmen, August 4, 2011

This review is from: Bizet: Carmen [New York -- January 21, 1956: Rise Stevens, Lucine Amara, Giuseppe Di Stefano, Robert Merrill, Norman Scott; Max Rudolf] (Audio CD)
Rise Stevens was a Carmen for all ages and this live recording represents her in her prime. The rest of the cast is superb. Lucine Amara was also an exemplary artist and outstanding musician. She sang more performances of Michaela at the Met than any other artist; she performs the part with uncommon lyric grace and feeling.
