Bizet at his best!,

This review is from: Bizet: Symphony in C / L'Arlesienne Suites Nos. 1 & 2 (MP3 Download)
Bizet's First Symphony in C is a gem and I absolutely love this CD. The music flows and flows with passion - whenever I listen to this, I don't want it to stop! To be honest, I don't know if it's possible to hear a better performance of this symphony. Of course, one usually can't go wrong with Sir Neville Marriner and St. Martin's Academy in the Fields and this is no exception. The L'Arlesieene Suites are performed exceptionally well.

Complete and Unabridged,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bizet: Symphony in C; L'Arlésienne Suites Nos. 1 & 2 (Audio CD)
Given the conductor and the band, this recording of this wonderful product of Bizet's teenage years requires no further recommendation from me or anyone else.
This note is just to say that Sir Neville takes *all* of the repeats. Just to eliminate any possible ambiguity, that means the exposition repeats in both the first movement and the finale and the repeats of both halves in both the minuet (read scherzo) and trio. All of the first-time bars are played and no information is lost. Buy, and enjoy.

Hooray, BOTH L'Arleseinne Suites AND a symphony!,
By J. J. Edwards-davis "jildavis" (Magnetic Island, Queensland Australia) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Bizet: Symphony in C; L'Arlésienne Suites Nos. 1 & 2 (Audio CD)
It's quite difficult to get the L'Arlesienne suites in their entirety - too often the first Suite gets tucked onto the end of something else (e.g. Carmen) as a 'space-filler". Neville Marriner gives a vibrant perfomance of both suites, which delighted my husband, who has wanted them for some time (I enjoyed them, too!).
