5.0 out of 5 stars The Vespertine Documentary.
Well, a bit of this IS included in the Royal Opera House DVD, but this is most definitely a documentary on making, recording, touring, etc. Björk's album Vespertine.

Concerning the Royal Opera House DVD, it contains a few early clips from this final product. Those on that DVD have a few snips of video not on this.

But this isn't some MTV or VH1 documentary...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Content, but Doesn't Warrant a Separate Release
Essentially the "extras" that should have been included with the Vespertine DVD (Royal Opera House), this release is a bit thin. Don't get me wrong. Essentially the "extras" that should have been included with the Vespertine DVD (Royal Opera House), this release is a bit thin. Don't get me wrong. I really enjoyed the behind the scenes view of the tour, but it's too little to support a separate DVD. In an age of multi-disc sets with extras longer than the main features, many of the newer Björk releases look like dinosaurs. Of course, One Little Indian has never been that concerned with value.

Pick it up if you're a completist, otherwise simply get the excellent Royal Opera House concert which includes a bit of this material anyway.

Concerning the Royal Opera House DVD, it contains a few early clips from this final product. Those on that DVD have a few snips of video not on this.

But this isn't some MTV or VH1 documentary. Directed by Ragnheišur Gestsdóttir and very well edited with clips of miniature sets and train sets (the camera for some short scenes was tied to a train set & hauled through tiny, beautiful handmade sets of just about everything), this film proves very entertaining. You absorb it (clear your head or something... I'm not sure what advice to give) and you learn all about Matmos's programming Björk's songs, see clips from other Vespertine touring venues you haven't seen before (but congratulations if you made it to those!), and you get to see all sorts of science videos of tiny microorganisms floating around. I think that's one of the coolest parts.

All in all, it's cheap (HOORAY! Finally: cheap Björk DVDs!), it's great, it's a perfect length, and it shows all sorts of things you don't expect (including a cool slideshow of postcards from around the world). And it comes in those cool super jewel boxes typical of Björk-related DVDs!

Hope you enjoyed my review.

A very exciting behind the scenes look at Björk's ground-breaking "Vespertine" tour.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Enough, March 30, 2005

I usually enjoy the Bjork releases which appear occasionally. This one however is quite weak. It does not showcase the behind the scenes of the Vespertine tour enough.
