Essential reference,
By
This review is from: A Jussi Bjorling Phonography (Skrifter Om Skogs- Och Lantbrukshistoria,) (Paperback)
This is the one basic and essential reference on the studio andperformances recordings of Jussi Bjorling. Henrysson documents all thestudio sessions and live performances and X-references each selection to the vinyl, tape or CD on which it appears. Despite the enormous number of CD's currently available ( Amazon has about 150 items, for example) the number of things recorded is relatively small, so this book is really the only way to keep from being covered up with duplicates. It is possible to locate a particular session or go the other way, and find out what's on a record. Items recorded in the studio are numbered in sequence; live recordings have a year prefix, followed by numbers in sequence for that year. This is as close as it gets to a critical biography of Bjorling and certainly makes listening to all the wonderful things currently available much more fun.

This review is from: A Jussi Bjorling Phonography (Skrifter Om Skogs- Och Lantbrukshistoria,) (Paperback)
This essential reference book is far more than just a mere listing of Bjorling's recordings. In nearly 400 pages, it contains a short biography, s summary of Bjorling's career, listings of every known and rumored live, film, and television performance and interview, and is indexed by composer, title, conductors, other singers, and accompanists. My one hope is that someone will update this 1993 work to include the many CD's that have been released since.

This review is from: A Jussi Bjorling Phonography (Skrifter Om Skogs- Och Lantbrukshistoria,) (Paperback)
This definitive Chronology is by a Curator of the Jussi Bjoerling Museum in Sweden. It is a must for all who want to know about this REPERTOIRE. Today, digital transfers from 78 rpm discs makes Jussi Bjoerling's voice even more appreciated for moments of great listening. |
