I found much of it difficult to follow,
By Charles Ashbacher (Marion, Iowa United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)
This review is from: Blab! Vol. 18 (Paperback)
This collection of "alternative" comics is rather strange. The stories vary from the completely bizarre and difficult to understand to those with a historical or social message. Those with a message are quite good and easy to follow. There is a section of drawings of prominent Jewish comedians, a story of the elephant Topsy, publicly electrocuted in order to "prove" the dangers of alternating current and a history of the poor house in America.
I will make no attempt to claim that I understood some of the material in this book, in many cases I think it was just presented to display the artwork and to shock the reader. Therefore, enjoyment of that material is very much a matter of personal taste. Honestly, I neither liked nor disliked it, taking the position that I could not honestly evaluate it. |
