5.0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest albums I've ever heard.
I just recently managed to get a copy of danzig's Black Aria, and all I can say about it is wow..
I had heard of it, and had been trying to track it down for about 3 years now, so when my roommate bought it the other day I have to say I was excited about the chance to finally experience it for myself, rather than from the descriptions of friends.

All in all, I must...

3.0 out of 5 stars Danzig with a Keyboard
Previously known for his Black Sabbath style heavy metal music, here singer Glenn Danzig composes an album on keyboard depicting Satan's fall from heaven. Apparently it went to number one on the classical charts upon its original release. Key tracks are: Overture of the Rebel Angels and Cwn Anwnn.

Danzig, you are a musical god.

5.0 out of 5 stars BLACK ARIA STILL MAKES THE GRADE, November 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Black Aria (Audio CD)
Here's what I say to the last reviewer. BLAH, BLAH, BLAH! "I want to be a poumpus jackass & try to impress everybody because I know who Rachmaninov is." This album may not top other classical composer's work but I think it's a good effort none the less. If you're so cultured in classical music & think that DANZIG has no talent in this field then it shouldn't even be worth your effort to write about because GLENN isn't a classical musician. He came up with a concept that was different from what he had been doing in his career, not so much different from anything that had been done before. Tracks from this album were played on classical radio stations around the world & the album was even on the classical charts. I'm not sure what number it was at but apparently some experts in classical music found it to be worth there time. Just because you're a DANZIG fan or like classical music does not mean you should run out & buy this album. I would suggest listening to it first & deciding before you get it whether it's to your liking. BLACK ARIA should be available again soon as well as many other DANZIG projects (some never realesed before) that he had to legally win back from record companies.

Go to emaginemusic.com and get it now! It will be re-issued February 8th. If I were to go to the moon and never return and I were allowed to bring only I album with me this would be it. I wouldn't even have to think about it!

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!, June 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Black Aria (Audio CD)
It's sacrilege that this album is out of print! I have been searching for it for years. It's definitely not what the unlearned would expect from Glenn...I haven't heard it in who knows how long, and I can still remember the sound of it. I echo earlier comments...bring it back, or hook me up if you know where i can get one.

5.0 out of 5 stars The greatest piece of work released in the 90s, December 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Black Aria (Audio CD)
If you have never heard this album, you are missing out on one of the most emotional charging albums released this decade. Glenn Danzig proved that he is far from a rocker with this album. To me he showed he is a musical god. He illustrates through his pieces on this album more than gothic images. He paints beauty and darkness in a single vision. I am a huge fan of his work with the Misfits, Samhain and Danzig, but this is something special. It truly needs to be re-released to give the those in the dark of the true gifts of Glenn Danzig a chance to witness it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very pleasant surprise!, December 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Black Aria (Audio CD)
Whether you are a traditional Danzig fan or no, this album is a rare work. I applaud Glen Danzig for daring to break the image of hard metal music he is known for to create this album. There is a great influence of Celtic mythology, particularly in tracks such as 'Cwn Annwn'. As a freelance artist, I am deeply inspired by music, and often choose this album when I need a darker instrumental to set the proper mood when I don't want something more traditionally clasical like Berlioz. Do not dismiss the work lightly - you will deny yourself a rare treat, and you may find you are also very pleasantly surprised!

5.0 out of 5 stars Danzig's best, December 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Black Aria (Audio CD)
i think the Black Aria is the best danzig album I've ever heard. He makes a great classical music album. I do feel that it is something you should listen to before you buy it. For anyone who can appreciate a different style of classical music yet is still a metal head would love this CD. I can't wait for it to hit the stores again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take a journey into another realm., September 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Black Aria (Audio CD)
I first heard of this album when Glenn did a brief interview on MTV. From what he said about it, I was determined to get it. I was far from disappointed. This album, though not metal, exhibited some of Glenn's best song writing to date. Tracks like Overture Of The Rebel Angels, Retreat And Descent, Shifter, and Dirge Of Defeat are very powerful, awe-inspiring pieces that invoke incredible, gothic, deep images. This is a very haunting album (if you allow yourself to become engulfed by the music, which is the way I think Glenn meant it to be) yet in a manner I cannot describe, it is eerily comforting. In Glenn's own words, " . . . may this take you to someplace you have never been. but have always longed to be." Black Aria took me on a remarkable journey into a realm within myself that I did not know existed. Glenn, my hat's off to you, and thank you.
