About the Author

I am retired and living in the Villages, FL. with my wife, Ursula. Our son, Christopher, is a schoolteacher who resides in Ewing, New Jersey. I was controller for one of the world’s largest architectural firms for almost 40 years and worked 16 years in Washington, DC and 24 years in New York City. Although pursuing accounting as a career path, I have always had a great interest in creative writing. I have authored more than 200 songs, writing both the music and/or lyrics and collaborating with numerous writers and musicians through the years. I signed 39 publishing agreements with a host of publishers and almost realized a cut on Vanessa Williams’ “Sweetest Days” album; however, 39 times my dreams did not come to fruition. I have written many poems and short stories and one screenplay. I was poet laureate of my high school and college. I love movies and had seen over 1,500 by the age of 13. I have always enjoyed horror and from an early age wrote numerous short stories in that genre. Some of those early stories are in this book. My favorite horror movies are Halloween, Night of the Living Dead, and the Evil Dead. My favorite movie of all time Is Frank Capra’s It’s A Wonderful Life with James Stewart. My favorite authors are Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, John Sandford, Michael Connelly, Robert B. Parker , Clive Cusler, James Patterson, Jeffery Deaver, Dean Koontz, Edgar Allen Poe, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, James Lee Burke, Lee Child and Richard Matheson.

More About the Author

I have written 155 short stories so far in my quest to exceed Ray Bradbury's 400 short stories. It goes without saying it will be an uphill climb.

My web site, billywellshorror.com, includes sample stories from all eight collections.

Since reviews are the life's blood of every author, I would greatly appreciate a review of any of my books on Amazon.com and hold anyone who does in high esteem for all eternity.

Stephen King is my favorite horror writer, and I admire what King has accomplished in the horror genre in terms of movies made from his considerable volume of work.

My Coffeesmoke channel on You Tube has amassed over 2,400,000 hits, mostly from my "Dead Celebrities" videos.

I love movies and had seen over 1,500 by the age of 13 when there was snow on 13 channels after midnight.

My favorite horror movies are Halloween, Night of the Living Dead, and the Evil Dead. My favorite movie of all time Is Frank Capra's It's A Wonderful Life with James Stewart. My favorite authors are Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, John Sandford, Michael Connelly, Robert B. Parker , Clive Cussler, James Patterson, Jeffery Deaver, Dean Koontz, Edgar Allen Poe, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, James Lee Burke, Richard Matheson, Lee Child, Jack Ketchum& Jack Kilborn/Konrath.

It's a fast read. If you like horror with a twist at the end, you will enjoy this collection of horror, blood, and gore. If things that go bump in the night scare you, don't read this book.

Billy Wells has a knack for leading you down the path to what you might think the ending would be and then in the last few paragraphs it twists to something unexpected. His style of writing is like other great writers that paint the scene in your mind with very descriptive phrases and words. I really like reading Billy's work. I would give him 4 1/2 starts if the system would allow it.

Great book, Billy!

The stories were all short, easy to read in 5-10 minutes. The first two stories in the book were amazing, The Clown at Midnight, and Fair Game. I loved the dark humor in The Clown at Midnight. There were only a couple stories I didn't like as much. Tommorow is a Long Time and To Know the End were a little weak on the horror for me. Overall, I thought this was a great collection.

Billy has changed my mind about the horror and fantasy genre. My favorite read is one that surprises me at the end. These characters could be living in my neighborhood or yours. Keep your eyes open and your wits about you. I enjoy the twists of fortune in many of these short stories and am looking forward to his next book "Shivers".

Black as Night by Billy Wells--
Billy wells introduces characters we can readily recognize from our neighborhoods, work places and, even some family members. Then, SURPRISE! The plot thickens with blood and gore and we want to close the book. But, alas, we need to know how the characters end.

The short stories were quite diverse and had unforgetable endings. It was easy reading. The stories were very descriptive with the words being used you feel as if you were the person that this was happening to. I would recommend this book if you would like to be scared.

Whatever else you may say about Billy Wells' stories, you wont forget them. There is blood on every page and scary things in the basement. Not for the faint of heart, but people who like to read horror will not want to miss Black as night.

The shorter the story, the harder it is to do well. These tales are both short and good. They span a wide range of topics, never preach, always entertain. Lots of twisted thought went into this book. I bet you will like it, too.
