Black LED Battery Powered Clip-On Gooseneck Book Light

Now I call THIS a book light. 16 LED lights make the light nice and bright. I especially like that there is an on and off switch. Most of the book lights I researched before I decided on this one had only one or two overhead LED lights which did not cast enough illumination and were flimsy. This product is well made and reasonably priced. In fact, I did not get mine on Amazon. Instead I bought it at a Lamps Plus which was liquidating its stock and paid only $12 dollars. What a DEAL!! Don't hesitate to buy this one.

This book light is an order of magnitude brighter than small clip-on book lights that use AAA batteries. As one would expect, it uses significantly more electricity and is heavier than alternatives. In my particular application, which is reading in a dim coffeehouse, I needed a portable desk light. With 16 LEDs and 10.5 watt-hours of electrical reserve (2600 mah AA batteries x 3 batteries x 1.35 volts), it does an excellent job. My only criticism is that the light appears to be lacking current-control circuitry that would allow the light to maintain relatively constant brightness as the batteries are depleted.

Out of curiosity, I connected the light to a digital power supply to determine how long the batteries should last under normal conditions. The tests indicate that this particular light lacks current control circuitry that all LED lights should have.That is to say, the current draw and light output varied dramatically with voltage. So, as your batteries are depleted, light output will drop. I was getting about a 0.7 amp draw at 4.5 volts (for alkaline batteries 3 x 1.5) and 0.5 amp draw at 4.0 volts which would approximate three NiMh batteries. This means that if the batteries could be depleted 100%, the batteries would last five hours. In reality, brightness and current draw will drop as the batteries lose power so the light will be visible much longer than five hours. It would be nice to have more sophisticated electronics, including a dimmer. However, at this price point, it is understandable why the manufacturer would omit the added expense of a separate circuit.

The brightness and light pattern are excellent. The array of 2 x 8 LEDs provide a rectangular beam that can be aligned to a both pages of an open book. The flexible neck makes it easy to adjust the direction of the light, which is nice if you are writing and taking notes. A nice design feature is the two extensible feet that provide extra stability for the lamp that is quite top heavy. The weight of the three AA batteries also helps in this regard. The clip is somewhat unnecessary as the light is too bulky to attach to most books. That being said, it still makes an excellent reading light when placed on a desk.

I have six, that's right six of these wonderful gooseneck book lights. Not only are they wonderful for reading books and magazines at nightor in low light, but I keep one in the kitchen to attach to my cook book, one attached to my beading board when I make jewelry. I even got my husband to use his when he is working on the car! It attaches to anything. This is a wonderful product and I use it everyday.

I have nothing negative to say about this light. It is a perfect size whether I use it over my computer when the ceiling light is not enough or if I use it clipped to my headboard for better reading in bed.

I purchased this light to use as a small task light. So far I've been more than impressed by it. It puts out an amazing amount of light for it's size.

My wife likes to read on the way driving home every evening. I've tried a couple of book lights, and they were just not bright enough.
This one is nice and bright, although the base is a little big.
With 16 LEDs and powered by 3 AA batteries. This is what you need if you want a book light that is bright enough for the task.

I bought one for my daughter to use when reading books in bed at night. I got jealous and bought two more for myself. I use them as a clip on book light for reading in a dark room, I clip the light onto my cookbook holder in the kitchen, and I use them as a light on my piano (it has little legs that you can pull out and it can stand on it's own w/o being clipped to anything).

Delivers lots of light from such a flexible, light weight product. Love them.

The other reviews are spot on. This is an excellent light. I wear multi-focal lenses and do not see well in low light conditions. I have been searching for a battery powered light I could use to read by in situations where we lost power. Further, I wanted the batteries to be AA or AAA. It uses 3 AA batteries.

This light fills the bill. I have been using it on the first set of batteries for the past four days and it works like a champ. If you look at the picture you can see it can be placed on a desk, or can be clipped directly to the book itself or a lap board.

My wife was so impressed with the light output that she told me to buy another four.

I have had it for less than a month so I cannot speak to its durability, but it seems to be constructed pretty well. In terms of light output it blows any other AA light away.

Heck, these would make for pretty inexpensive lighting for off the grid applications. If you packed it up well it would probably even make it on a backpacking trip. Too bad there is not a specific version of this light for that application.
