The most groundbreaking and daring comic talent since the heyday of Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor was also the most controversial. Like Dick Gregory before him, Pryor explored issues of racial inequity with great insight and depth, tackling taboo topics that mainstream white America would have preferred swept permanently under the rug. But while Gregory used the standup stage… Read more in Amazon's Richard Pryor Store

1.0 out of 5 stars His WORST!!!!, January 23, 2005
This review is from: Black Ben the Blacksmith (Audio CD)
The editing is as sloppy as the comedy. Some bits don't even have a decent ending. They just end. For a great example of his early work check out "The Wizard Of Comedy."

5.0 out of 5 stars The best..., September 1, 2003
This review is from: Black Ben the Blacksmith (Audio CD)
I have every album. This is the best. From a true Pryor fan since age 8, this is the best. Back when he was still free-basing cocaine, this comendy has an edge like no other.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pryor at his peak, October 8, 2009
This review is from: Black Ben the Blacksmith (Audio CD)
This truly is an example of Pryor at the peak of his powers. The best routines here, namely the title piece, show Pryor as a master of characters. He portrays several characters in one skit with incredible adeptness and still manages to be hilarious. Using real but often inane stereotypes (inane in the sense that people actually thought that way), Pryor draws great humor out of pain, ignorance and pleasure.
