5.0 out of 5 stars "My Colour is Black to the Blind...", August 13, 2005

This review is from: Black to the Blind (Audio CD)
There is no easy way to describe the sonic assault that is Vader. I would say a combination of Slayer Iron Maiden and Morbid Angel. A Death Metal band that originates from Poland, they combine insane drumming, guitar riffs with plenty of hooks and unique vocals that are easier to be heard and understood than your average Death metal band. This album titled Black to the Blind just seems to get heavier and faster and just better as you progress through it. By the time you get the title track, you are just amazed. You are awestricken once the album finishes and only want to either press the play button again or listen to more of their stuff. If you haven't experienced the unique sound of Vader, then I suggest you click the buy button for this release now. One thing I found to be interesting was that in the lyrics booklet, there's a small amount of information above each song as to give an idea as to what the song is about. Doc's Drumming as I stated before is inhuman, and definitely has a unique unmistakable style of playing. If you love listening to metal for the drums, then you must check him out. Sad he's not in the band anymore; I wonder where he is now. Peter and Mauser on guitars create monster sounds that blend together perfectly, with the song True Names being a great example of that. Their longtime producer could be considered to be a secret band member as he actually writes the lyrics for most of their songs, and he does a great job at that. I also suggest you pick up their Live in Japan album which was recorded when they were on tour for Black to the Blind and truly highlights Doc's Drumming skills. Vader is a must if you like death metal. Even if you are only a casual death metal fan, you'll become a Vader fan instantly.

The only flaw: on Vader's website there is an eleventh song titled Anamnesis. This isn't on the CD, probably available on an Import. On my version (released by Pavement Records) the lyrics booklet says it is there and even gives the lyrics for that song, however it isn't on the CD and it isn't listed on the back of the CD case. This version sold on Amazon.com is also from Pavement Records and therefore probably contains the same flaw even when it lists there to be 10 songs and not the missing Anamnesis. Fortunately the missing song can be found on their Kingdom EP, so don't panic, you can pick the missing song and a few others on that record. It just means more Vader to add to your collection. Hoped this helped.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inhuman Drumming, Godly Guitars...., January 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Black to the Blind (Audio CD)
I didn't think I would enjoy this album, because of all the negative things going around lately about Vader, but I must admit, it's pretty GOOD! The only thing that wasn't godly on the album was the vocals. At one point in the album the vocalist almost sounds like he's trying to be like Jonathon Davis of Korn <blah?> but fortunately goes back to his pseudo-deathmetal style. However; this album contains some of the coolest riffs I have ever heard out of a death metal band... The first song blows you away with its music, as does the rest of the album following. The production is excellent. The drumming is done in blast-beats and is played unbelievably fast... INHUMAN!!! Once you can look beyond the weak vocals, which are kind of a growl/yell crossover, you will like this album... This is destined to become classic. Straight Forward death metal, old-school style, with talent, aggressiveness and murderous attitude. Hail Vader!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sickness, July 16, 2005

And the intro of Mauser. Vader wise, that is. F*ckin' A, this album kicks nuts, I love this cd. It is insanely fast and the riffs stick in your head for days. Awesome cd, long live death metal.
