Book Description

Last Vampire
Believing that she and her partner, Ray, are the last remaining vampires, five-thousand-year-old Alisa is stunned when she learns about a series of brutal murders in the United States that can only be the work of their own kind.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 9 Up?A generally entertaining yarn about a lovely, 5,000-year-old vampire. Sita had thought that she and her companion, Ray, were the last vampires on Earth. However, a murderer who favors dismembering and draining the blood of his victims is stalking Los Angeles, and Sita realizes that her assumption is incorrect. Only she has the power to stop this creature from his evil path?but he's much stronger than she expected, and she finds herself in a life-and-death struggle. Occasionally the narrative digresses to discuss Sita's dreams and visions of her original life in India eons ago in an effort to lend spiritual purpose to her actions; this comes across as a somewhat obvious attempt to link the tale to legitimate mythology. Overall, though, Pike's fans should enjoy the story immensely. Sita is a clever and resourceful heroine and the story is infused with slyly appealing humor.?Mary Jo Drungil, Niles Public Library District, IL

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing read for any Pike fans., June 26, 2002

Ok, first of all, let me point out the very well known fact that Christopher Pike, as talented as he is, does not have that much respect from the critics, much like the Horn Book review of this novel. But that's because of a couple of reasons: First of all, you have to have patience with his books. What I mean by that is, I mean that in order for you to like it, you have to read the entire book of his. And, in the entire last vampire series, I think the entire series is one book, telling one story of the same character with a bunch of unique plot twists intertwining. It's a great book, and so is the rest of the series. Sita grows from a cold blooded creature to a character that You later learn to love if you read the rest of the series. The entire series is good, buy it, read it, enjoy it. you'll like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, November 5, 2001
This review is from: Black Blood (Last Vampire, Book 2) (Paperback)
I read the editors review and I disagree. Im 22 and I started reading Christoper Pike in my teenage years. I think that the way he writes adds a slice of reality to his books. Alisa may seem cold blooded in this book, but you really must move on to the next for she turns into a loving and wonderful parent. One who is willing to shed her own blood as well as her life for her child as the stories progress. I don't think any parent should be worried about purchasing any book of Christoper Pikes for their children. They are wonderful and intriguing, opening doors to the imagination that lead the reader on wonderful adventures of danger, love, and heartbreak.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pike is amazing!, November 27, 1999

Pike certainly spun out a golden tale when he created Sita. Alisa is a 5,000 year old vampire that you DON'T wanna mess with. And she's NOT your classic vampire. In each of the books in The Last Vampire saga, she meets a new and harder challenge. And you don't want the story to ever end.
