For some reason, I thought this guy was metal (which in retrospect wouldn't have been kind to the door), but he's a solid rubber, so when the door comes in contact, it's eased into a soft landing. He protects the wall soundlessly and stays in place without falling over, like a very good doorman. He looks very cool sitting there on the floor, a little tiny piece of modern art just waiting to leap into action.

I ordered "James" to stylishly hold my bedroom door open. I live on the coast and the wind gusts from an open window always slam my door shut. Not pleasant. When I arrived I was relieved he wasn't plastic, (like he looks in the photos) but had a firm and durable rubber body. Unfortunately, my bedroom is carpeted and in THAT situation..."James" is useless. He can't get enough traction so he will not work. I was very disappointed until I put him in the laundry room for the same reasons and he WORKED LIKE A CHARM!!! The linoleum allowed him to settle in and do his job. :)
So, the verdict is that he's GREAT on front doors, garage doors, laundry room doors or any door on hardwood, tile, or linoleum. My opinon? Buy him! He does the job and does it with style...IN the perfect location.

Cute but inefficient
This is a cute idea but it cannot hold open a dorm door . . . it just slides on the floor. Definitely needs a different surface on the bottom,
