Book Description

Black Book: Diary of a Teenage Stud March 19, 2002

Volume IV continues what began with the first three installments of Jonah Black's diary: the no-holds-barred, darkly comic tale of one teenager's inner life. Teens will find a new kind of hero in Jonah: one whose acute observations mirror their own. The journals, in print for all to read, are irresistibly honest and revealing, and sure to satisfy any reader's desire for a real, juicy story.

This installment brings us to the final, shocking revelations about Jonah's recent past.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Gr. 8-12. In what seems to be the final installment of the popular and engaging Black Book (Diary of a Teenage Stud) series, the loose ends are tied up in an almost too tidy package. Florida high-school junior Jonah has been hysterically funny in his misadventures searching for love, but in volume four, he gets over his Sophie obsession, his sister, Honey, finds love at Harvard, and Jonah finally figures out who his mysterious Internet admirer is. There are some surreal episodes, but the wonderful quality of slipping back and forth through the muddled morass of Jonah's fantasy is lost here because of the push to resolve story lines. Character development, too, is sketchier, relying on what's gone before. Series fans will feel let down, but this is still a necessary purchase for libraries that have the first three titles. 4.0 out of 5 stars Jonah's epic is finally complete, April 1, 2002

Just as he enters "Phase Two" with Molly, Jonah begins to think about Sophie again. The journal contains several of Jonah's fantasies seen in the first volume. Jonah receives mails from Sophie, yet does not try to contact her until he travels north with sister Honey. The fun doesn't really start until the two begin their road trip to visit their father and his wife, whom Honey intimidates throughout the visit. Jonah makes a surprising move with Sophie that impresses Northgirl, who finally reveals herself. This book puts an end to all the questions: who is Northgirl; will Honey really go to Harvard; will Jonah ever get over Sophie; why is Sophie so crazy; what ever happened to Sullivan; and will Jonah ever get laid? Although this is an excellent finale to the series, a few questions remain unanswered.

5.0 out of 5 stars How I spent my Christmas Break, January 4, 2003

Ok, so let me just say that I just finished reading Volume Four of the Black Books series and I loved it just as much as I love all the others. I received the first one as a present and had to rush and get the rest just so I could find out what happens. If you are reading this, than you are probably like me and want to know if the answers to all the questions that have been buildng up over the first three installments will ever appear and all I can say is "Yes, definitly, Yes!!!" If you have a doubt in your mind about getting this book then you should erase it immediately, because in the end you finally understand everything. I'm not saying that you won't still be wishing for a fifth volume once you are done reading, but all your big questions will be answered, and in my opinion they are answered in a good way. So in short I loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ahhh, Jonah, August 4, 2002

Finally, Jonah is able to separate reality from fantasy. It almost hurts to read about Jonah wanting what he cannot have, making a fool of himself. However, relief is provided for readers in the latest installment. Not only does Jonah have closure with Sophie O'Brien, a girl who haunted him in the past three books, but Black founds out who his secret admirer is (Northgirl).
