4.0 out of 5 stars Real Information, Real Strategies, December 16, 2010
This review is from: Black Business Secrets: 500 Tips, Strategies, and Resources for the African American Entrepreneur (Paperback)
If you threw a stone in a crowded room, you'd likely hit a business owner with a book on starting and building a business. When written, those books are often long on platitudes and short on practical AND inspiring information, Lee's book is different.

Lee has captured an important niche - the emerging Black entrepreneur - and gathered the best, successful people and put them together in one place. That's the inspiration.

The practical information - lists of resources and programs is the kind of information it takes hours to research and compile. Lee has taken care of all the work for entrepreneurs so they can get to the business of learning and running their business.

The economic downtown has presented an opportunity for Blacks, a group who has seen their unemployment numbers dwarf the national average, and they are creating their own businesses opportunities in great numbers. I always advise clients to begin any new venture with research, I will suggest they start their research with Lee's book.

Great business ideas are a dime a dozen. Developing those ideas into a workable business takes hard work, skill, persistence and resources. Do you have a great business idea, but, don't know how to start? Black Business Secrets is your start!

Some books inspire. Dante Lee's Black Business Secrets goes beyond that. It empowers and challenges readers to make it happen. The book's greatest asset is that is gives readers the tools to build business and economic success. This book has come at the right time, it's an easy read and quite informative. Personally I have sent it to several people as "Must Haves". There is a wealth of knowledge to be gained for both the 'Up and Rising' as well as the 'Already There' Entrepreneur. A great gift for the avid reader in your life!

Kudos to Dante Lee for compiling such a robust list of business success principles for any person who wants to both save and make millions with their ingenuity and intelligence. Not only does he remind us of Blacks throughout history that have accomplished entrepreneurial success against all odds, but he points us to what needs to be done today to duplicate their achievements.

Dante Lee is a very smart business man! I think it's great that Lee is revealing the business secrets of successful black businesses. This book covers all of the aspects of being an entrepreneur who thrives in ANY economy. As long as you're providing a product or service needed to solve your target audience's problem, you can do well in business.

Lee also provides information on making sure to deliver on what you promise to your customers. This is a very important part of being a successful entrepreneur. His interviews with millionaire business owners are insightful and provide encouraging advice to those who want to start a business as well as those who want to enhance their existing businesses. 5.0 out of 5 stars Wisdom Beyond His Years, December 16, 2010
This review is from: Black Business Secrets: 500 Tips, Strategies, and Resources for the African American Entrepreneur (Paperback)
This is exciting! Many have said that experience is a good teacher and I would have to agree. I have chosen Dante Lee has been my leading resource into the world of African American professionalism. After following his blog, I have come to know that his wisdom, knowledge and experience go far beyond his years. This new book is a result of the above mentioned.

As an author and an entrepreneur, I am constantly in search of gaining the edge that will help put me in the driver's seat of life. This book will help me get there. The fact of the matter is that business and how we operate in it has changed. Everyone and anyone can create a global presence. Thus the competition and the abilities to excel in one's market place have changed. The Internet, social media and creative marketing systems have changed the playing field in which many are being left behind. Mr. Lee has taken a look at this vast landscaped and has created a blueprint that will specifically cater to the African American Entrepreneur. If you are ready to go to the next level, this book is for you. If you are ready to eliminate the excuses, this book is for you. If you know anything at all about Dante Lee, than you know...this book is for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Much Needed, December 16, 2010
This review is from: Black Business Secrets: 500 Tips, Strategies, and Resources for the African American Entrepreneur (Paperback)
I'm usually the type that doesn't think that business books for entrepreneurs need to be separated by ethnicity. After all, business is business right? Well...um...not really.

As an African-American entrepreneur, I am faced with an abundance of business challenges (both overt and subtle) that are a direct result of how I am perceived by others...and of course, my skin color does indeed play a role. It's unfortunate, but it's true. And while everyone won't buy into this truth, that doesn't mean it isn't true.

For me, having a book that provides tips, strategies and resources is right on time. I wish it had been available years and years ago. A must-read. Thanks Dante!

3.0 out of 5 stars A No-Hype Review, February 16, 2012
This review is from: Black Business Secrets: 500 Tips, Strategies, and Resources for the African American Entrepreneur (Paperback)
Amazingly, this book has gotten some "over the top" reviews which overlook the downside of this book.

While the book does offer tons of tidbits, they are not much more than what could commonly be found online and are pretty basic things.

It is nice to see them in one resource, but there is little help for the reader towards practical application and there are a lot of self-promotion tips that refer the reader to one of his websites.

Also, the tips are in no logical order. The Table of Contents gives general descriptions and there is no Index at all.

You basically browse the book stumbling upon "tips", randomly. This can be a turn off as there is no flow to the book.

This is obviously a book for publicity, which is fine. The author even gives this as a tip on page 223.

All-in-all, it is a fairly good resource for ideas, but a reader will need to refer to other resources for steps in implementing these ideas.

A strategy that the author overlooked is to use his book as promotion of not just a cheap website service, but to promote high-end workshops and programs to help his readers implement the strategies outlined in his book.

This is a strategy that folks like Robert Kiyosaki, Tony Robbins, and many others use to leverage the power of being a published author.
