3.0 out of 5 stars A difficult read
I bought this book after reading the glowing reviews and started reading the book is great excitement. After the beginning story of the girl who was spontaneously healed, I found the book to be getting very heavy. This review is from: The Black Butterfly: An Invitation to Radical Aliveness (Paperback)
Dr. Moss writes of his own powerful, beautiful, and totally spontaneous awakening experience and how he struggled to understand it and, through it, begin the process of living a life of "radical alivesness". In the book he shares his awakened understandings and the experiences of some of his patients and members of his classes and groups.

I first read the book ten years ago and it had such a tremendous and beautiful impact upon my consciousness that I am still telling people about it today. I was so glad to see it listed on Amazon.com because it was unavailable for awhile.

The message of the book is just as beautiful and important today. Dr. Moss writes that "Awakening is going on in varying degrees in every person. It is not something from which we can turn away".

In the closing chapter Dr. Moss relates the story of a patient whose awakening during a retreat was so powerful that it resulted in a spontaneous healing of cancer and other negative physical conditions.

A must read for evryone who is coming "awake".

5.0 out of 5 stars Water in the desert, May 12, 2001
This review is from: The Black Butterfly: An Invitation to Radical Aliveness (Paperback)
For anyone who has wandered out beyond the usual borders of psychology and religion, Richard Moss's work is a pure gift, an oasis, and a place to heal. Despite his extraordinary experiences and profound realization, he is straightforward, unpretentious, and lucid. Better than anyone I know, he brings the transcendent truth into incarnate ordinariness, with humility, humor, and the grace of compassion. I have found his works, particularly this one, to be friends on the path--friends I keep going back to time and again. I cannot recommend his work highly enough to those on the journey of consciousness.

I can't find the right words to describe the changes that are taking place within me as a result of reading this book. I think anyone who would be interested in reading this book understands that words are often very limiting when attempting to describe spiritual experiences, and the author does an amazing job of articulating what most of us cannot articulate. Every time I pick up this book, even if I only read a paragraph, I find a new gem that shifts my perception even more. If you are searching, this book will help you.

I bought this book after reading the glowing reviews and started reading the book is great excitement. After the beginning story of the girl who was spontaneously healed, I found the book to be getting very heavy. While I do not wish to comment on the experience or knowledge of Richard Moss, I would like to state that the writing style is extremely complicated and makes it very difficult to read beyond a few paragraphs at a time.

The topic of enlightenment is something that can best be described in poetry. Richard's work has a very high intellectual component and use of a lot of technical jargon. I bought this book to read something similar to one of my favorite book by Michael Singer called "The Untethered Soul" which was easy to read and extremely enlightening. Moss seems to be making a lot of effort to complicate a process that can be explained so nicely as done by Eckhart Tolle and Jeff Foster.

However, like I said, this book did not satisfy my expectation. I am sure there are people who love the heavy and super serious style of Richard Moss's writing. I'm just not one of them and would rather spend my time reading lighter works on the topic.

I have not yet finished reading this book. Another book came along that has interrupted the reading. However, I look forward to getting back to it. The author has a very interesting personal story which has led him to create a method of opening to the non dual experience for those who can make the journey. Each reader will have to determine for themselves if this is a path of interest to him or her.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Reality Affirmations Forgot, October 8, 2010

This review is from: The Black Butterfly: An Invitation to Radical Aliveness (Paperback)
I read the Black Butterfly years ago. I have metaphysical leanings but feel that a lot of the New Age/New Thought movement is bogus information and pseudo spirituality. Richard Moss does a great job delineating the states of spirituality that are deeper (and quite often painful) than what the "feel good spin doctors" would ever discuss. This isn't an easy read because it will take you places emotionally that may be triggering. Yet, Richard Moss' work is profound and cutting edge. It will change your life.
