My father is a huge comic book collector and actually owns two books from this series in addition to his collection: The Black Castle and Citizen Vampire.
I read them both when I was about fifteen and loved them. Unfortunately I didn't realize there was more to the series than just the two until recently and am certainly working to rectify the problem :)
This book is excellent! It's so dark and to the point that you can't help but be intrigued. It's based during the Spanish Inquisition and is the story of a soldier named Don Sebastian De Villanueva who was killed in battle and "sold his soul" to cheat death and become a vampire. Don Sebastian relies on his brother, a key player in the town's local Inquisition who uses his brother in several ways in his power-hungry attempts to climb the ladder, to survive - but the the power struggle between them is intense. The story that unfolds is a nonstop read.
